I never shopped on Hollar before, so this was definitely a useful lead. Today I found a hair mask on there for $3 that I paid $12 for at Target.

On the negative side, their search engine works very poorly, with some brand names (that they do carry) it doesn’t work at all.

But all in all, I’ll definitely keep this site in mind now for future purchases.

I’ve been purchasing from Hollar for over a year and am overall happy wtih them. I do unboxing videos on my YT channel (SpiceyCatJams) and recently received 2 of the general mystery boxes. I was able to snag one of each of these and am anxiously awaiting arrival. I’ve been pleased with the quality of the items I’ve purchased and had pretty good mystery boxes, but that’s not always the case. I have friends who received horrible boxes. Hollar has grown VERY quickly and I’ve noticed their attention to detail in packaging has declined, and they’ve substituted items without notifying me. Their customer service team has always made it right for me. The ‘deals’ are getting harder to find on their site and they’ve brought in third party ‘marketplace’ partners. Be aware when you are shopping if you have Hollar or marketplace items. Not all the marketplace items fall into free shipping or the Hollar promotions. When I show I check the box ‘Hollar items only’ by the sort option.

For the referral link/credit to work, you must be a first time shopper and not have ordered from them or created an account under your email. That might be the reason the credit isn’t working for some people. If you place an order/create another account under a different email, you should get the credit. They also have a promotional code, GOBBLE, available for a limited time where you can earn credit on a future purchase. They don’t list an expiration though, maybe it’s already expired. I used it last week with a $5 off referral link. Here’s the details from their email about the GOBBLE code: Promotional Code GOBBLE is eligible for all Hollar customers. *Spend $20 or more, receive $3 off your next purchase. Spend $30 or more, receive $5 off your next purchase. Spend $40 or more, receive $8 off your next purchase.

Hope this helps!

Hey Cathy! I watch your unboxing on YT. I also watch a lot of other women do Hollar unboxings. There is one woman in particular who gets a $5 credit off EVERY ONE of her boxes, I believe she will ruin it for everyone. She’s ordered over 100 boxes, she must just make a new email for every order. ALL her orders are $5 or under ALWAYS. I don’t encourage people to make a new email address, in my eyes this is dishonest, especially since you now get a $5 credit if someone signs up under your code. (I don’t mean you personally, I mean you generally) Yes, I am very upset about this, I dislike people like this who ruin things for honest people, this is what eventually will happen. I just don’t understand how Hollar hasn’t figured it out yet, it’s going to the same address, over 100 boxes and they haven’t caught on? lol. I’m spending my hard earned money doing it the honest way, she is not. Maybe I’ll just make a new email every order and get my $5 discount every time and join the club.

Why does the Beauty Mystery Box say a $20 value for only $6 but it costs $8???

Teresa

@Liz Cadman Are these boxes listed on swap site?

Home box is sold out, must have just missed it! Literally went to check out and it was out of stock. Oh well :p Grabbed the general and beauty one. Hollar had emailed me a 40% off one item coupon code (I think for signing up for emails?) So with the coupon and referral credit I saved $8.20 off my order!

Missy

How did you get the referral credit? I used the link to go to the site and went to check out with the Beauty & general ones but didn’t receive a credit that I see in checkout. And they only sent me a free shipping coupon😢

I’ve been ordering from Hollar for about a year. I love it, there are some very nice finds, but some very cheap things. I never order food, but always order cleaning supplies, wipes, and presents for my teenager and husband, they also have great organizing items!!!

*Toy mystery boxes are usually awesome (sadly I have no little kids)

*Home boxes (I have only gotten a general mystery box, this will be my first home) mine was good, but others were terrible!

*Beauty mystery boxes are usually cheap beauty stuff. I ordered one makeup item from there once, never again, horrendous smell.

This is an online dollar store, so if your looking for items you get with popsugar/fff/ipsy or whatever you will be disappointed. Again there are great finds, but you have to spend about an hour looking around at their website, it’s HUGE, they have everything!!

Look on youtube for “holler haul” you will see what people get in the mystery boxes.

I grabbed all except toys. I missed the home box last time and was so sad. Thank you so much! Yes, please review.

i got a mystery box from here before loved it and all the items were super cute..this time i grabbed the mystery home, toy and general box.

I ordered a toy box, I was already planning to buy a bunch of less expensive toys for my nieces, so they would have extra fun opening gifts on Christmas. (To go along with the nicer gifts I get them.) And I got a Home box, because I love home items. I just hope it’s not super junky like the Mystery Box of Awesome stuff usually is. If I don’t like the stuff, I will gift it to someone who does.

I was going to get this, but a twenty dollar value on 8 pieces means…they’re what? Cheap elf products maybe? I guess it would be a cheap thrill but If the value was higher, maybe.

Liddy

Think generic made in China makeup with a cheap label stuck on. Literally worse than the dollar store.

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

Actually, I checked out the e.l.f. site recently, they are not that cheap anymore!

My guess is that would be much cheaper general dollar store fare.

Reply ButtonReply

Kerri

Hollar has a lot of e.l.f. products for cheap! They add the makeup brushes to the beauty box normally. They also sell Revlon and another brand I can’t think of. In my earlier post I mentioned I purchased one makeup product and it smelled, it was a name brand foundation mousse, can’t think of the name lol.

Teresa

@liz The referral link didn’t give $5 off. Can we get help with this?

Reply ButtonReply

Rose

You won’t see the $5 store credit until you’re in the “payment” phase of the checkout; the initial price in the cart won’t reflect it.

Reply ButtonReply

Ellen

Nope didn’t work even in the payment phase. Just one click to submitting my order, and found the shipping fee was waived but no $5 credit

Kelli

Has anyone ever purchased any of these in the past? Are they worth it?

Melissa Smithey

I’ve bought from Hollar before. They have super mixed reviews but I had a good experience with them!

Reply ButtonReply

Jenai

I put them all in my cart, then I took them all out. I do love mystery bags, but I am trying to cut down on extra random stuff – plus I could use that $36 towards black Friday box sales.

However, I did find that Hollar has cheap baby wipes! I’m going to order some of the cheaper brands, because 80 for $1 or 90 for $1.29 is – much better than practically 3 cents a wipe at Target or other stores. And I found a bath mat and some other little needed things.

Now if only I can resist putting all the mystery bags back into my cart before I check out 😉

Gracie

You can try wiping with a cloth and an organic cloth wipe spray. Its safe and saves money and the environment. 🙂 just a suggestion. 🙂

When my children were little there was no such thing as wipes (as far as I know). We used a baby wash cloth and baby soap. Boy have times changed.

Yvonne

There are a few unboxings on YouTube of previous Hollar mystery boxes.
