I’m about 8 months in to my ipsy subscription could someone explain how I can request a specific sample if I don’t know what that month’s full list is? Do I choose from the email I get several days before the first of the month (I think) showing me “one of these products will be in your bag this month” list?
Also, it seems I get black eyeliner a lot as well as some neutral brown shade of eyeshadow & I almost always get a highlighter or bronzer. In my monthly reviews I always ask for other colors of eyeshadow but just once in 8 months I was sent a green shade which was beautiful but didn’t go well with my coloring at all so I gave it to a friend who uses ipsy also. Apologies for the lengthy post but I just found this site & am learning things I’ve never heard anywhere else so thank you in advance.

i’m new to Ipsy but I read on here that once you find out spoilers for the next month you email them requesting the item you want. I did this for september and they replied yes to my request.

How does requesting a sample work? I am new to ipsy and don’t get how it works… I thought all the items in your box were random?

ME too I’m new as well and didn’t know you could request items. Is this an extra item or one of the 5 they choose? somebody help us 😊

I’d like to try that in their other, pink shade!

I asked for aqua bomb all the way! I LOVE that stuff and so does my skin!

Princess

How did you do that

Are we getting 5 of these samples shown? Or this is just for 1 choice? The rest is unknown?

It’s just a choice of one item out of the 12.

I think there are variations on the nail polish color and the brush, and they choose which you will get if you ask for that item. For example, there was a pink sundays nail polish in one of the previous spoilers, so if you ask for the nail polish, you might get gray or pink.

I have stronger feelings about what I don’t want than what I do want next month.

I really, really don’t want that perfume sample because I hate very synthetic-smelling perfumes. This “perfume” contains one synthetic note, Cetalox, and that’s it. The name actually is honest advertising – it’s NOT a perfume, it’s a perfume ingredient. It’s supposed to be good for people with perfume allergies. (I prefer stinky vintage perfumes filled with lots and lots of old-fashioned natural allergens like oakmoss and jasmine.)

I’m also crossing my fingers that I don’t get the gray nail polish. I’d be delighted with the pink polish alternative, though. I don’t like gray anything and I would never choose to paint my nails gray. I know it’s a huge trend and is a highly popular choice, so maybe I don’t have to worry. (It would be sad if the only person in the world who didn’t like that color, got it.)

I’m always happy to get more sheet masks and mascara, but I might let Ipsy choose this month as an experiment.
I can’t wait to see what else they will put in the bags. I’ve really enjoyed my first two.

I received that perfume in my Sephora Play box and I loved it, it didn’t smell synthetically at all, but was a very warm, nice scent perfect for autumn, loved it very much, Cetalox smells different on everyone, but I’d suggest you give it a chance.

Thanks, Mariia. I’m glad you posted that because I felt a little bad that I might discourage some people from liking it if they got it in their bags.

It’s true that perfumes smell different on different people, and to different people, so this might be a real winner for some.

U can opt out of categories, i opted out of perfume and nail polish

LydiaAS

Thanks, Christine.

I’ve already opted out of the maximum two item categories (blush and eyeliner), but I may trade one of those opt-outs for perfume.

I definitely don’t want to stop getting nail polish altogether, I just don’t want gray nail polish.

L

Wow so many choices. Previously you only have about 5 products to choose from.

I requested the Belif aqua bomb

For the first time, I opted to choose a sample. I am getting the mascara but also hoping I get the belif aqua bomb. Everything looks good to me though; thinking I will be pleased with August.

PS – why would a company name a perfume about a gun? Maybe I’m getting too old but I would never want to wear anything indicating gun usage!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

Why would a company call a fragrance Axe? Or old spice? Maybe they wanted to appeal all the “mericans” that love their guns.

I took it as a rather oblique West Side Story reference? (How many bullets, Chino?) And I suppose it’s trying to be edgy and empowering, taking a famous romantic lead and trying to give her more power or agency. But since literary Juliet has a knife anyway, and stabs herself with it because she has no one in her life to teach her not to get so worked up over boys, I don’t think her having a gun would have improved the outcome.

Maybe she would have shot Paris?

I requested this sample anyway, because it sounds like a fragrance I’d be into (I like spicy, earthy, bordering on unisex scents) but the name is ridiculous.

I keep hearing that song, Janie’s got a Gun, in my head when I see the name of it. I know it’s a metaphor but 🎶 Janie’s Got a Gun 🎶

Sharon in SE TX

In the movie, “Romeo + Juliet” (1996), Juliet has a gun instead of a knife. I don’t know if this is where the perfume’s name came from though.

LydiaAS

I agree.

Nail Polish even though I have a similar color. Only cruelty free product that would work for me in this grouping. Hoping I don’t get more hideous dark frosted products in this bag when I’ve indicated I like more of a natural look. What happened to the Hikari and the Gold Moisturizer??? Don’t want either but they were listed as spoilers here earlier.

I skipped this month, but before they added that lovely nail polish choice. Bummer! I just rejoined ipsy (for the Gudetama bag!) after a break of several years and love that they offer skips now.

Winnie

How do I skip? I can’t find the option to do so on the app

If you go to cancel, it will give you an option to skip instead of cancel.

They do!?! Wow – I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing.

I think I will let it all be a surprise. I don’t care for most of the spoilers this time. Maybe from too many sub boxes?!
