Beauty Report Limited Edition Box Review – Box A

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

On March 29th, we posted about the Beauty Report Limited Edition box from New Beauty. (This box has since sold out.)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box.

The Box: Beauty Report Limited Edition Box

The Cost: $29

The Products: More than 15 full, deluxe and travel sized products.

This box comes with a card detailing all the items included:

And if you were one of the first 500 people to buy this box, you also received a bonus DermaFlash:

Dermaflash – Value $189

This set comes with the Dermaflash rechargeable tool, and a cartridge of blades, plus a “prep” cleanser, and a “soothe” lotion for after you’ve used the tool.

Here is a quick video for how to use if you are like me and don’t want to read a somewhat lengthy instruction manual:

You have to charge the device (at least 5 hours) before use.

And here are the blades:

FYI – you can only use a blade once, and a refill cartridge costs $39.

I’ve used this once and I liked it! It removes peach fuzz and dead skin. My face definitely felt softer and smoother after using. I also felt like my skincare routine worked better after using it – we’ll see how this continues over the next few weeks. I will likely end up buying replacement cartridges.

Decleor Hydrating Oil Serum – 5 ml Value $24

I first fell in love with this oil serum thanks to the August Beauty Fix subscription box, so I’m thrilled to have another one. (And good news – this sample is small, but you only need a few drops per application, so it actually lasts a while.)

This serum is made with 100% natural oils, and it feels decadent on my skin, and smells lovely, too. If you haven’t tried it yet, you are in for a treat!

Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream – Travel Size (5 ml) – Value $7.50

(Expiration Date Listed 10/17)

FYI – since there were concerns about expired products in this box, I’ll be listing out all expiration dates on products that are marked.

Dr. Hauschka is an excellent natural beauty brand and this day cream feels fantastic on my skin. It’s a rich cream, but it doesn’t have a greasy finish.

Trilogy Age-Proof CoQ10 Booster Oil – 5 ml Value $11.50

(Expiration Date Listed Nov 2019)

This serum is designed to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and boost collagen. It also leaves a slight dewy sheen on your skin. And the best part? It’s certified organic!

Babo Botanicals Lip Tint SPF 15 Conditioner – FULL SIZE! Value $10

(Expiration date 01/2019)

This lip tint is all natural, made with 70% organic ingredients, and the formula is moisturizing and adds a little shine.

The pigment is almost non-existent, though. Here it is swatched:

New-Beauty-Beauty-Report-Limited-Edition-Beauty-Box-April-2017-0049 New-Beauty-Beauty-Report-Limited-Edition-Beauty-Box-April-2017-0028

Veneffect Anti-Aging Lip Treatment – .1 oz Value $25

(Good to know for swaps – this product has an inner foil seal.)

This lip product is designed to hydrate and plump your lips, and help prevent vertical lines.

I wish the application tip was your typical lip balm applicator instead of just a standard tube, but besides that, I have nothing bad to say about this product!

It’s a bit like a cream going onto your lips, but it absorbs well. It definitely hydrates my lips better than a lip balm, too. I’m not sure I can justify the $85 full-size price, but I will enjoy this sample!

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub – 1.3 oz Value $7.60

(Good to know for swaps – this product has an inner foil seal.)

The Michael Todd brand is great for ingredient conscious beauty products. I found this scrub to be gentle, and it left my skin feeling clean but not dry. Not a life-changing scrub, but a solid product!

Trufora Titanium Day Cream SPF 30 – FULL SIZE! Value $30

Expiration Date: 4/17

It’s important to call out that this product has an expiration date of this month. You can reach out to New Beauty if you’d like a replacement product. ([email protected])

I googled “is it safe to use expired sunscreen?” and found this result. Definitely, do whatever feels right for you, but I decided to try it since it looked and smelled fine. In fact, it smells really lovely! The formula looks like a shimmery pink out of the tube, but it blends in to give you a subtle rosy glow. I really love the finish of this sunscreen, so I’m hoping New Beauty will send me a newer version I can use for a while!

Epionce Renewal Facial Cream – .2 oz Value $11

Epionce Renewal Facial Lotion – .2 oz Value $11

Epionce Renewal Lite Facial Lotion – .2 oz Value $11

(Expiration dates: 6/19)

(Good to know for swaps – these products have an inner foil seal.)

These products are designed for different skin types (dry/sensitive, normal/combo, oil/problem). Of course, I had to try all of them. Again, I loved the clean scents of these formulas. No surprise, I found the cream to be the heaviest formula, and the lite lotion to be the lightest!

Defenage Skincare Set

Expiration date? 3/15/2016? (This product has “3152016” listed on the bottom of the box. I’m not 100% sure if that is an expiration date, so I’m going to reach out to find out before trying these samples.)

Defenage Skincare 2-Minute Reveal – .25 oz

Defenage Skincare 24/7 Barrier Repair Cream – 7 ml

Defenage Skincare 8-in-1 BioSerum – 4 ml

(And since these may be expired, I’m not assigning values to them for now.) If you have any updates on these samples, please let us know!

Apothederm Firming Serum – .15 oz Value $11

This serum is designed to make your skin feel firmer and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The sample is a decent size, so I should have about 2 weeks to see results!

Tiffany Anderson Gavee Gold Liquid Gold Peptides – 8 ml Value $24.80

(Good to know for swaps – this product has an inner foil seal.)

Be careful when opening this! I assumed it would be more of a gel/cream consistency since it is in a jar, but it’s a liquid that easily spills.

This serum is made with natural ingredients, and it has a fruity scent. It’s designed to help brighten skin and boost collagen. I liked the formula, I just wish the packaging made more sense!

Lycopene Skin Creme – 15 ml? Value $22?

(This cream does not have a size listed on the packaging, so I’m estimating on the size/value.)

This cream has almost a bouncy texture to it, but it was still easy to apply and absorb into my skin. I didn’t find it to be super hydrating, but it gave my skin a soft and smooth finish.

Farmhouse Fresh Island Elixir – 2.4 oz Value $13

Marula Oil Rare Oil Treatment – 7 ml Value $5.65

I loved both of these products! The hand cream has a light tropical scent and moisturized my hands without any greasy feeling.

The oil is great for damp or dry hair – I only needed a drop to add some shine and tame frizz.

Le Mieux Bio Cell+ Mask – Value $10

Expiration: 2/14/2019

This mask was a little thicker than your typical sheet mask, but it was still easy to keep on.

I liked the scent and found it to be super moisturizing – great sheet mask!

Verdict: I think this is an incredible value box if you were lucky enough to be one of the first 500 boxes and get the Dermaflash. Even without that bonus, the value is still great (but I didn’t calculate it since some products may be expired).

FYI – I received this email today:

I’ll update as soon as I receive the VBeaute product.

  1. New Beauty is keeping its word. Just got a fedex shipping notice.

    • For the mystery replacement item.

  2. I looked at the vbeaute’ site and there are two products listed for $48. One is an eye serum, and the other is a skin lightner/brightner serum. The ingredients are really nice in both products and they are full size. I hope it is one of these. The value of this replacement product alone is more than the whole box cost. I am glad The Beauty Report is taking the time and effort to replace the sunscreen. I consider that great customer service. I received box B, and was content with the value and items received, and excited to try some new brands. I get beautyfix (which I love), and for a few dollars more, I received fifteen products from this box….

  3. Well, I had also sent the email about the about-to-expire TruFora (with photo) and received the info about the replacement today. The fact that they were clear about the DefenAge expiration date (i.e. it’s not expired) makes me feel comfortable about trying all of these products.

I was burned – both literally and figuratively – with the BeautyFix Mystery Box fiasco. Literally, because the original *and replacement* products were clearly old and expired, and I had a terrible reaction to one of them. So I want to be much more careful, and now I am confident about these.

That said, I have a few days left on the TruFora so I decided to slather some on for a mid-day trip in the bright SoCal sun. Wow, it is definitely PURPLE. Right after putting it on, there was a noticeable purplish cast on my arms. It fades down, but I would not put this on my face. I was out in the sun (UV Index level 9) for about half an hour and did not burn, which I absolutely would have without any protection. So I will use as much as I can in the next few days!

    • did you receive shipping notification? there is tracking number. If you box has not been shipped, how do you know that it is box B?

      • I called them. The only straight answer that I have been able to get out of them is that I have box B.

    • I haven’t received mine either, not even shipping confirmation. Communication with their CS is very frustrating and so far has led to nothing. Never will buy anything from them again.

    • i called yesterday, they are shipping another round of B boxes this week. What really sucks is I was an A box, but due to expiration date on cc being wrong….I get b box,and I called them to find out what was going on. I really was looking forward to this, but now not so much. I was also thinking about ordering testtube, but not now.

      • I was also considering ordering test tube, but after this fiasco, I wont. The only thing that was holding me back before was, I was waiting to see the next testtube review, but it hasn’t been on here yet. The first rep. that I talked to today told me that they were holding our boxes so that they can straighten out the expired products, then they would be sending them out, but that the people that already got their box were getting another box to replace the original box. How is that fair to those of us that haven’t even gotten the original box yet? The way the rep. was talking was that we would only be getting one box while everyone else would be getting two!

        • Everyone is not getting a second replacement box. We are all getting one replacement product with the value of $48.. which will be in your box also. The only thing that we got that you won’t get, is the expired sunscreen.

      • Hi Viola,

Just wanted to let you know that A box and B box are exactly the same. the only difference between them was if you were one of the first 500 to order you get the dermaflash in box A. Hopefully you will get yours soon.

  5. what would be value of the DefenAge?

  6. I loved my box too! he only thing I’m disappointed about now.. knowing the Defenage is the manufacturing date, is my Lycopene. It’s a bit dried out and can’t rub it on face right. I’m guessing that it’s not NewBeauty’s fault though as others Lycopene, seems to be fine. I guess mine just wasn’t sealed all the way. But, I do love my box and would reorder again!

    • Mine is dried out as well, I assume the packing was not air tight. I would not use it because I do not think that the product is still good.

      • I ordered and received two B boxes and the Lycopene product in both were dried out and chalky. I tossed them.

    • Mine wasnt even in the box ! I called them today about the expired sunscreen (and subsequently got the same email about the replacement product Liz got) i just hope they put a Lycopene lotion in with it. I wanted to try it- and i hope its not all dried out!

    • That’s too bad–mine wasn’t dried out, but I can see how air could get in with that silly packaging. It’s like they were trying to make it look like a big sample when it’s really tiny.

    • My Lycopene was a bit dry but there is almost nothing in the container. 😮 Maybe it evaporated? I’m fine with it though. There is enough for me to try but I’m glad I did not try to swap it without opening as someone might have thought I used most of it then swapped the scraps. lol All in all this box was an amazing value to me!

  7. It’s totally fine to use expired sunscreen, it just means that it won’t be as effective.

    • You don’t want to use this tinted one, it gives your skin a strange purple hue. Very unflattering to say the least.

      • It gives the purple hue so you can see where you applied it and where you missed spots. The purple goes away after a few minutes when it’s rubbed in. I have another sunscreen for children that does the same thing. It prevents burning from missing a spot.

  8. When the box contents are photographed out of (and next to) their packaging, it looks like there are twice as many products. 🙂 Also, can we have an item of a commonly known size (cell phone or something) next to the products so we can gauge the size of the product? Otherwise it’s hard to tell if something is full/travel/sample size.

    • Liz list the sizes of the products right by their name.. go look at all the samples from other boxes and you can compare that way.. that’s what I do.

      • Exactly.

  9. I got box B, which had all the same items except I wasn’t in the first 500, so I didn’t receive the Dermaflash. My card listed the Apothederm as one of my products, but it was not in my box. I guess I will have to contact them about this. I wasn’t overly impressed by the products overall. I didn’t realize it would mostly be skincare samples. I was hoping for a variety of skincare, makeup, body products, and hair products.

    • This was actually the reason I canceled my TestTube subscription (also from New Beauty) after trying it out for a month. I got my skincare routine figured out by now, and am very picky in what else I am willing to introduce to it. At least if they sent more makeup I would have been able to use more items, otherwise it’s a considerable amount of money for things I don’t want to use.

      • Exactly how I feel.

  10. Thanks for reviewing–I was a little overwhelmed with all the products I’d never heard of before. I’m so happy with this box! And I can’t believe I got the DermaFlash! I usually pay $110 plus tip to get DermaBlade treatments and the results are VERY comparable. I won’t mind buying replacement blades one bit.

    • I am curious about that though, if you shave off your peach fuzz, won’t it grow back as thicker hair?

      • My understanding is the hair isn’t thicker, but the end of the hair is blunt from being shaved. I’ve had DermaPlane treatments for the last two years. I have naturally thick, dark hair (on my head), but my peach fuzz stays peach fuzz. If I put off treatments for awhile, I can see the peach fuzz at an angle in the light, but I like how smooth my skin is without it. Products really do absorb better.

i do not have sensitive skin issues with skin care or cosmetics but

the first thing i used from the box was the Epionce renewal cream. and within seconds my whole face turned tomato red and was covered in hives!! the next day i was completely swollen.

it’s now about four days later and my skin is completely dried out and the hives are just now starting to go away.

i’m weary about using anything else from the box.

    • Oh no, thanks for the warning! I got a kick out of the “Hives! Hives! Hives!” lead, not that you got them, but the way you cut right to the chase of the problem. 🙂 I hope your skin rebounds fine from the experience.

  12. I’m happy with my box as well, used the Trufora Sunscreen this morning.

  13. I was really happy with the box as well, especially how quickly they moved to make the expired product debacle right.

Some of the notes provided with certain products include discount codes for future purchases, so don’t throw those out. Some of the discount codes have expiration dates (perfectly reasonable), but I didn’t see any that were too aggressively early. Plenty of time to try the product and decide if you want a full size first.

I know the Lycopene and Gavee Gold products have discount codes.

  14. Liz, I called Defenage before we got this today and verified that the number on the tube is a batch number, and it won’t expire until November of 2018. There’s a good article on batch numbers in cosmetics that explains that where it’s a 6 or 7 digit number, the numbers before the year represent the day of the year, as in 315 out of 365, and that its the date of manufacture. I was glad to find this out to be able to decode some of the dates we get.

  15. It says in the message that DefenAge is a manufacturing date not an expiration date. I personally LOVE my box (I got A box). So many new product to try and the value is incredible for $29. I would definitely buy again next time.
