So I had 3 add ons in my cart, but then was considering waiting and seeing what the secret store is all about. This is my first month choosing a box and getting into all the Julep stuff, so someone give me some advice. Should I stick w/the add ons, or wait and see? I had a couple polishes and the brow powder, as an add on the brow product was $12.

I don’t think that either the Secret Store or Add-Ons are a better value necessarily. The deals vary, so it’s possible that it might be cheaper in the Secret Store, but there’s no way to know for sure. You do get a free random polish with 3 add-ons, so that may or may not be an incentive for you.

Honestly, the value is pretty good either way. It’s not like most purchases, where you might pay $20, then realize you could’ve gotten it for $7 two days later. I hope that helps!

The colors are not really my style this month so I decided to try their new cuticle product and get another bottle of their facial oil. Seriously that is hands down THE BEST product I have ever received in a sub box and now I’m terrified they will stop making it. I’ve got to stock up while I can. I also added on the Just Your Luck bundle, the holo pale blue color Jennye (which is such an interesting spelling of that name and I would love to hear if anyone spells it like that or knows someone who does,) and also the No Limits luxe hydrating cream. I’m debating on keeping it in my cart though. Does anyone know how moisturizing it actually is and like it?

Am I the only one not into these colors? I skipped this month, it would have been my first box, but I just don’t care for them. I’m still playing with my free 12 polishes box I got last week and the couple other colors I picked up with a 50% off email I got right after ordering. That teal blue looks nice, but none of the rest are really doing it for me.

Well I love a wide variety of colors, so I can pretty much always find a few I like. I feel like this month’s choices aren’t as good as usual, though. The curation doesn’t really follow a “spring is coming!” theme in my opinion, so there are some very bold 80s style colors (the red, the blue) and some pale, almost pastel colors. There are also a lot of blues and no pinks (just the purple), so I feel like it’s a pretty unusual set.

That said, I really love the purple, light blue/periwinkle, and the teal (though I’ll probably skip it because my blue-greens are so over-represented). I think the red is pretty nice, but I’m not sure a warm red would be very flattering on me. I feel meh about the brown/neutral polish. The blue is a good shade, I just have so many blues. The pink shimmer is actually a color I’d like, but I will wait for reviews. I worry that it’s either super sheer and requires over 3 coats for full coverage, or that it applies very streaky thanks to a white base.

Basically it’s just a matter of taste. I wish they were doing more adventurous effects and would love a pastel yellow, but I might be the only one haha.

Decided to try more of the skincare this month! I’m excited.

I’m also excited about the fig eyeliner. 😀

One of these months Julep is going to put out colors that do not appeal to me. This, however, is not that month. I have way too many nailpolishes (in excess of 400, I think – not all Julep) and the last thing I need is more, which is why I got another 6 nailpolishes plus the new eyeliner plus the lip color. At least I didn’t get ALL the polishes; that’s a step in the right direction, yes?

Julia

Thank you, it always makes me feel better when there’s someone with a worse habit than mine! 😄 Are there any polish colors you don’t have?

Can I ask how you store them? I have a cute display/organizer but it’s completely full, and my vanity probably couldn’t hold another one.

Reply ButtonReply

Mimi

I’m sure there’s colors I don’t have, but not sure what they are LOL. As far as storage, I have six of these: https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1151960380 in various colors and I store my polish based on bottle shape (round, square, flat, etc). It works for me!

Nicole R

Hahahaha…your comment made my day! I totally feel your pain. I have so many nail polishes but feel like it will never be enough.

So this is my first maven box and I’m super pumped. So far I have been very pleased with the quality of Julep’s products. I feel like the add-ons are a great way to get more products for cheap. Are there usuall the full spectrum of products available every month as an add-on? For example: there’s an eye liner I really like. Do they usually have those? Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Julia

They don’t always have the full/same selection available as add-ons. I got a manicure set a while ago that I usually don’t see in the add-ons. Also, a product might be available – just not in the color you want. However, it seems like eyeliner is almost always an option. I hope that helps!

So I went with the balm lip color and switched to the oil everyone has raved about. I guess those are higher value items, because it did not let me pick anymore? Still, those two items for my 6 month pre-paid price seem like a good value. I am considering adding on an extra polish, I like the rule abidina suggested about waiting a month or two for new colors.

Reply ButtonReply

Julia

Her rule is good. 🙂 Generally, you get 3 items, but it depends on what you order. I think the basic format is:

* all polishes: 4 items – 3 polishes and a bonus like decals; this month it’s the Plie wand, which is a really good deal
* polish + makeup: 3 items – 1 or 2 makeup items (like eye and lip products) and 1 or 2 polishes
* skincare + makeup: 2 items – 1 skincare and 1 makeup

Their polishes are cheaper than their makeup and their skincare is pretty expensive, so I think this method makes sense. It’s so annoying that they don’t explain it clearly, though!

(Also, I’ve managed to sneak in decals before when I’ve had a 2 or 3 item box. I just temporarily removed the cheapest item, added on the decals, and added that temporarily deleted item back on. It doesn’t always work, though!)

There are a ton of $4.99 polish add-ons in older shades. It’s a good place to start, and they are more likely to have reviews. 🙂

I picked Faith (mauvewood) from the new colors, and got two of the eyeshadow sticks – Stone and Warm Gold. I added on the Pearl eyeshadow stick too. Next month is the last in my prepaid, and I’m planning to take a break for a while so I can use up what I have.

My original box was the teal blue color, the balm and eyeliner.

I kept the fig eyeliner, added the cleansing oil (It is new to me!), and 3d triangle nail decals.

Then for add ons: graphite eyeliner, foil decals, stone decals and Keaton.

I wonder what the free gift is?

Amber

The free gift is referring to the bonus nail polish set you get as a new subscriber

Lunalee

I meant when you add 3 add ons you get a free gift.

By the way, I received that free 12 piece gift set above the other day and it is beautiful! Even the box is so pretty.

abidina

I love all of the nail polish colors this month & really wish the eyeliner would work with my skin tone; I adore it. I typically have a rule with Julep, though – I can’t order any of the new polish colors the month they come out. I wait until they’re a month old so I can add them on for a little less. This month I’m building my box around the rosehip oil, as per so many people’s recommendations.

Lunalee

That rule you have is a good idea. I am removing Keaton from my add ons to save some money. I will get it another time. Thanks!

I’ve skipped my box for several months now but I am ordering this month. My initial box has the Mighty nail & cuticle serum as well as the luxe hydrating cream and I’m keeping both items but added the clover nail decals because they are so cute.

Ragan

Maybe I have been subscribing too long but I don’t feel like there is much new here.

I took the brick red one as that color is underrepresented in my collection and also the powder blue one because it kind of appealed to me for reasons I don’t fully understand (usually I hate pastels). And also the new eyeliner color.

They kept trying to get me to put a Plie wand in my box but I don’t really want it. (I am ambidextrous and don’t have any trouble painting the nails on either hand, and now that I have lost weight, it is much easier to reach my toes as well.)

Reply ButtonReply

Julia

The plie wand makes it easier to paint nails with your non-dominant hand? Well I know what is going in my box!

I agree that not much is new. I love the purple and blues, but I just organized my colors and found out I have an absurd number of those colors. I’ll still probably add some because I love them…

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

I have heard people say that about the wand, anyway, but have never actually tried it since I don’t have that problem.

Melissa

So, if I sign up now I will not get to choose my polish correct? I have to wait till next month?

Liz Cadman

That’s correct, you’ll be able to pick on March 20th for the April box. Hope that helps!
