  1. I’ve had Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, and Green Chef boxes, so I decided to try this with the coupon. My impressions were that the quality of the food is right on par with the other boxes (very good) and is in the cheaper category ($60 vs $70 a box). What I liked the most though was the entree options. So many!! Blue apron won’t let me do certain combos and I don’t recall if hello fresh even had that aside from food preferences.

I’ll probably be sticking with them for the time being and as long as I can afford the cost and time (it averages an hour for me on these boxes even with exact proportions – too much garlic chopping and lemon zesting!). I logged into my account today and noticed that they had given me a $10 credit towards my next order – I believe that promo came out a day or two after I had placed my first order, so yeah, super awesome.

  2. I was all set to subscribe and had picked out a few menu items, then went to purchase and was very disappointed to learn that I couldn’t choose my entrees. The two that Home Chef had picked for me weren’t the ones I was going to select. Any advice? It took a lot of convincing to get my husband to go along with this, and he’s a picky eater so there’s no way I can take my chances on which meals we’ll receive.

    • You should be able to de-select a meal that is “picked” by clicking on it. You can pick your entrees by clicking on the “request meal” button underneath the photo. You’ll have to go to your delivery schedule for that I believe. That is how I changed mine.

  3. I just got my second Home Chef box yesterday. I love the variety of recipes but I have had items missing from both boxes I have received. To their credit, Home Chef’s customer service was great and issued me a credit for the issues, but I highly recommend that you unpack and check your box against the recipes when you receive them so you won’t figure out after you started cooking that you’re missing a key ingredient.

  4. I love HomeChef but I haven’t ordered from them recently. I have been going on their website and looking at the selections for the weeks and printing of the recipes since I still like their meals. I just made one of their recipes last night (shopping for the ingredients myself) so its simple to be able to recreate their meals if you like them.

  5. We’ve been doing Home Chef for about a month now, because we have a newborn baby and this service makes it very easy to eat a few nice dinners a week without the shopping hassle or meal planning. So far so good, we’ve enjoyed customizing our weekly menu to our tastes and overall we’ve enjoyed the recipes we’ve chosen. They also sent us a recipe binder with our first box to keep all our recipe cards in for future use too, which I really appreciate.

Due to the premium price of this service as opposed to me normally doing all our home cooking, I don’t think it’s something we’ll keep up with long term. Perhaps we’ll order every now and then after we get past new-baby-survival-phase. But overall, no complaints about Home Chef.

  6. Finally a reason to sign up for this. I love trying new recipes but hate having to buy $6 of rosemary for 2 inches of sprig that I forget to use before it goes bad, or buying a huge jar of some kind of paste that I only need a tablespoon of and will never or rarely use again. This is a very nice solution and I like the recipes better than the ones I looked at from Hello Fresh.

  7. I love home chef

    • I recently started. I like it, too. I think I like it better than Hello Fresh, which I’ve been doing for a while. I only get stuff from either of them about once a month.
