  1. oh man I really want that curated box but I love being surprised! I think I’ll pick the sunscreen oil (I’ve never tried one but it sounds good for dry skin), and hope they sell the curated box on their site again. I’ve been wanting to try Hoola’s powder bronzer for a while, of course I have a sample of the liquid one i’m terrified to try lol.

  2. Liz-

You left out the conditioning packet sample from Davines, it’s hidden behind the Hoola sample. I don’t know why, but I’ve subbed to Birchbox for years, and whenever they send out Davines samples it’s a small bottle of shampoo and a packet of conditioner. The proportions are so out of whack it’s funny. Guess they think you’ll use that much shampoo, lol.

    • I use about that much shampoo per conditioner. If I condition my hair more than once or twice a week I’m a greasy mess.

  3. I finally decided to cancel Birchbox. I just subbed to Play! by Sephora as well as Allure a couple months ago. I think I’m going to cancel ipsy, too. I just haven’t been happy with either of them for several months now, and I am on product overload. I had $30 in BB points that I used to purchase some things. I only spent $1.37 out of pocket after using my points and a 15% off promo code!

Does anyone know if you cancel BB and come back, are your leftover points are still available to use or does it start over?

    • I know if you only cancel for a while, they are still there because I did that. Not sure for how long, though.

      • Thanks! I actually contacted Birchbox. The rep said my points will stay in my account because you get more when you purchase items from BB; I just won’t have the opportunity to get points for reviewing products if I cancel. And points expire after one year.

    • points expire a year after you earn them, whether or not you are subscribed

  4. I cancelled BB this month. I am new to BB and have consistently been disappointed compared to my Ipsy. I am also getting Play instead. I’m also debating whether or not to cancel my Allure. While Allure has great boxes, it costs me close to $20 (not $15) with all the taxes.

  5. Sorry if this has been mentioned and I missed it, but I have an email from Goldfaden MD to look for them in the May Birchbox and an exclusive Birchbox discovery set. I have no idea what that means as I don’t do Birchbox but if you do and are a Goldfaden fan like me it could be good news.

    • That would be great as far as I’m concerned. Wonder why there was no mention of it. Hope it’s for all–or at least for me.

  6. Summer is around the corner.
I would be happy with the Supergoop or Coola since I’ll be heading to sunny Cali at the end of May and I’d get good use out of them.

  7. I don’t want any of the choices or the curated box this time. Has anyone ever not picked anything? If I don’t pick will I still get one of the choices anyway or could I get a box with none of them (which is what I’d want).

    • Its based on the luck of the draw. I sometimes am late for sample choice and there have been moths where I don’t get any of the choices and other months that I get 2 of the choices.

      • Thanks for letting me know how it turned when you didn’t pick:)

    • I didn’t choose once….hated all 3 options.

My box came with ALL 3. You just never know….

    • Last month was my 1st box & I didn’t get to choose but I didn’t get any of the sample choices & I had a great box. The video this month says that everyone will get a sunscreen item & you can pick it or be surprised. So… I am hoping I can pick the body Peel & then I’m fine with any of the sunscreens.

    • When I didn’t choose last month, I received one of the sample choices anyway, as well as the micellar water from the curated box. This has also happened when I have chosen a sample, and not picked the curated box.

    • I’m with you. Nothing is jumping out at me, so I was just going to let it be a mystery. I can’t imagine they’d send you multiple suncreens, but I could see maybe getting the peel or tanning lotion with a sunscreen. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen to me! Part of me thinks I should just pick a sunscreen because I’m not big into tanning products (I’m fair skinned and okay with it) and I wasn’t a huge fan of the real chemistry face peel (I also have sensitive skin), but maybe we’ll both be lucky and get 5 completely different items! I’m not feeling the curated box either – nothing wrong with some of the products, but I have multiple setting sprays, lip glosses, perfumes and plenty of shampoo. Best of luck!

    • If you don’t make any choices, as I didn’t this month, they will just send your box with the stuff they pick for you according to your preferences,

  8. At first I haven’t excited at all, but the choices are definitely leaning on me. I think I’ll try the body peel for my uber dry elbows, and I’m excited about getting a sunscreen sample that I can bring with me to the beach. I’ll always love Birchbox the most (beauty box wise), no matter what! 🙂

    • Wasn’t* and growing* whoopsy – wine’s definitely kicking in – ha!

  9. Not a fan of either the sample choices or the curated box (I had ordered a curated box a couple of months ago and was so disappointed that the samples seemed even smaller than “regular” samples from BB. I think I will let them decide for me this month (again) as that seems to work out better. I cannot wait to get Play! and then I think I will cancel BB. Their samples are very small (and seem to be getting smaller!) and it doesn’t seem as if there is much product in the sample – has anyone else noticed that?

    • I think this is the month I’m cancelling. I’ve been unhappy with my past couple boxes and sample choices, and this is just the last straw. I finally got Sephora Play!, so it’s worth it to just replace my BirchBox sub with Sephora 🙂

    • I though it was just me! I feel like the samples are so tiny it’s ridiculous.. and then some I honestly thought were empty because I would go to squeeze out product and the entire tube would flatten out. I’m cancelling because of this.. Also you can get these samples free with purchase from most places and also you can walk into Macy’s or Sephora and get samples of products that are honestly much bigger than the stuff I get in BB

    • I just went to this website and they have a code freecombo. If you use it after selecting the product you only pay for shipping. I just paid $6.00 for both. Thanks Lexi.

      • Thanks, Alta! Good catch! I didn’t even notice the coupon code! I just got my sample set as well! 🙂

  10. It’ll probably be the Coola for me, though I have tons of those little sunscreens and I haven’t found myself using them. In any case, not exciting.

I’d go for the curated box, but I’ve gotten the Love shampoo before and I don’t want to miss the points from not being able to review it.

    • That’s happened to me where I get a sample I’ve already reviewed. I just let their great customer service know and they will help get me the points.

  11. Oof. Not loving these choices. Maaaaaybe the body peel. I’ll have to do some research on it (although I don’t like not knowing what the sample size is!)

However, Divine’s Love conditioner is my favorite of all time!! I even like it in a foil pack since it’s so thick. But the rest of the curated box is kinda meh to me. And I miss the surprise.

    Gotta think about this one.

  12. Not in love with anything. Maybe the sunscreen oil or body peel, but doubt it will be big enough to do anything except elbows since they didn’t picture the sample size 😛

  13. Oh, good. After a few months of not really loving the boxes, there’s finally a sample choice AND a curated box I can get behind, and I’m even having difficulty deciding what I want to choose!

  14. How do you buy the curated box after you’ve made your sample choice?? Please help!

    • usually its just for sale in the shop a day or two after people can make their choices. It’ll show that its $15, but if you’re a subscriber, once you add it to your cart it takes $5 off so then its only $10.
only downside is you don’t get to review your samples for points

  15. If you have sensitive skin, do NOT try the supergoop oil. I had a bizarre reaction to it the day after. I woke up and my face had little bumps all over it. It was AWFUL. It took about a week to calm back down. Avoid like the plague!

    • Thanks! Blondage, I have sensitive skin so I’ll cross that one off?

    • I have extremely sensitive skin but LOVE the Supergoop oil! Makes my skin glisten and soft. Just test it a day or two before you use but no problems here.

    • I’m really late reading these responses so I apologize for that. I’m trying to decide between the oil (which I’ve never tried) and the new Coola (I have other Coola products and like them) and doing my research on them, and saw your comment. A number of people on different sites have mentioned that they had a similarly bad reaction to using the sunscreen oil on their faces, and it does contain some potentially irritating fragrant oils, but Supergoop actually describes it as a body product, not for faces. I don’t know what the packaging says but they say “Category: Body” on the website. They don’t go out of their way to make this clear. If I get it I will use it on arms and legs only, not even my chest skin, which is sensitive.

  16. I’m going to buy the curated and pick the body peel for sample choice. 🙂 Never tried one of those before and it sounds interesting! 😀

  17. Oh no, I can’t decide! I like the idea of trying one of the sunscreen products, but I like that there are 6 samples and I want to try a couple of those w/the curated box. I know we can buy the curated box separately, but I like the extra 10 points that I would get for reviewing all 6 products in the curated….

I could do another account, since I’ve been eyeing those Rifle Paper Co notebooks… but then that’s a slippery slope, starting another account. Hmm…

    • But you’d get 10 points for buying the box 😉

      • oh good to know! Do we know for sure we don’t get charged for shipping this box?

        • That, I don’t know. If you’re an Ace, it’s free for sure. If not, they may charge you unless you order enough stuff to hit the minimum for free shipping.

        • The shipping is free and you get it for $10 and no waiting!!!

    • I did another account mainly to get the Rifle Paper notebooks. They are a decent size, unlined paper. The real problem is that the pages are stapled in the middle and it is difficult to get the front pages to lay flat. They are cute little notebooks though.

  18. Thought I might try the sunscreen oil, but after reading the reviews, I’ll pass if I’m able. The Coola seems like a good choice. A little staple to keep in my purse.

Loved last month’s featured box, but this one leaves me flat, so I’ll take my chances this month – I’m usually pretty happy with their selections for me.

  19. I’ll probably go with the body peel, although I’ll only use it on certain parts – like maybe knees and elbows where my skin is especially “needy”. Nothing else grabs me; i hate self-tanners with a passion, and I have enough sunscreen (and I’m sure I’ll get more this year). I rarely, if ever, need to use a make-up setting spray. The curated box does nothing for me at all.

  20. I like having a fancy sunscreen choice. I think I’ll do the oil, since I’ve never tried a product like that before. The ‘white tea’ aspect of the Coola is also appealing, though!

  21. Ugh….nothing screaming out to me.

I will probably take the curated box again, although I have already tried the shampoo so I won’t get points (that my sway me away from that). And, yes, I see the conditioner packet tucked in there too!

I’m sure the sample size of the body peel will cover about 1% of my body! I’m not even sure the full size would cover my whole body! LOL

  22. BOTH! I want both! LOL! I’ll Probably opt for one of the sunscreens as my sample choice and then buy the curated box separately. I’m terrible. I’ve got so many samples from different boxes that I’m actually having a little party tonight to give them away…and I’m already plotting to get more.

    • Lynn, I have actually thought about doing that too! Like a girls night at my house with wine and cheese and free make up samples 🙂

      • I think that’s a fabulous idea!

  23. I cancelled Birchbox after I got Play. They were on their way out anyhow – the samples have just been soooo teeny! I probably need to cull some more boxes since I’m in product overload but – it’s hard!

  24. I got HOOLA in my April box 🙂 and I got a sample of Bare Minerals bronzer there recently too, so I am probably good on those for a while. I’ll probably go for either the COOLA or the body peel (which isn’t a peel).

    • Is the Hoola sample a pretty decent size?

      • It’s .1 oz which is about 1/3 of the full size

  25. It’s an interesting theme. Keep yourself pale (sunblock) but make yourself look tan (bronzer/self tanner), totally not my thing. I embrace my pale and need full size sunscreen to cover all this whiteness. Guess I’ll try a body peel for the first time. Definately not something I would have tried on my own.

    • ‘to cover all this whiteness’….hilarious and I’m right there with you! Pale skin, freckles, and red hair. I need spf 50 by the gallon.

  26. I haven’t liked any of the sample choices the past couple months. The featured box is okay, but I’m not overly excited about it. I’m on product overload with all my sub boxes so I’m seriously thinking about cancelling BB and ipsy this month . . . sigh

    • i was just thinking the exact same thing about birchbox i had 2 accounts already cancelled 1 and i am concidering cancelling this one this month… the only thing that is stopping me is the point system but i’m seriously thinking i can do without it too..

  27. The SPF 50 oil looks perfect for my Jamaica trip later this year. I really love that Davines sample (and size) but I don’t need another nude gloss. Plus I don’t think I’d get review credit for what I’ve tried already.

  28. I love Birchbox but it’s hard to get excited about the May box when I’m still waiting on my April box ?

    • Yes! I’m new to birchbox and 13 days after subscribing, my tracking hasn’t budged from the initial “your birchbox is born!” I’m on the west coast, how long do these things usually take to ship?? I’m one day away from the maximum 10 business days and I’m sure my box hasn’t left the original facility. 🙁

  29. Is it just me, or does anyone else see a Davines LOVE conditioner packet behind the bottle and to the left?

The curated box looks just OK to me (small samples), though I do love Davines shampoos. (I just finished my third sample of MOMO this morning – I got three in mystery sample packs, which was a total score!) The sunscreen oil looks nice, too, so I’m not sure. I suspect that I will choose the sunscreen oil and go with the rest. I’m not too keen on getting a perfume, I have more than enough lip products and am not wowed by that, and I don’t use bronzer.

    • I take it back, that makeup setting spray plus my existing love for all things Davines, I just may get curated. Or maybe I’ll go with sample choice and buy the curated box. Too many choices!

  30. Can’t have too many hoolas in all different sizes!

    • Yes ! This size is perfect for travel too !!

  31. I would get the curated box just for the hoola bronzer, does anyone know how big the sample is ?

    • It is .1 oz which is 1/3 of the full size

  32. Hmmm..nothing is grabbing my attention. Maybe I will just be surprised this month.

  33. Boo, sunscreen and I’m going to have to pass on that body peel that looks like a dish soap refill though it’s ginormous and appeals to the “get stuff free” side of me. I saw the extra conditioner packet hiding too! Love 6 item boxes. Actually I love Davines stuff after trying it this month so this was an easy choice for me and I’m probably going curated for both my subscriptions – that lip gloss is super cute and I’m excited to try the makeup setting spray. I guess I will be stocked on bronzer for awhile 🙂

    • The body peel in the picture is NOT the sample size. The sample size is smaller.

      • I saw the little note – is it bad that I didn’t even think I’d use when I thought it was huge sized? I guess I’m too lazy to exfoliate that much, haha.

  34. As a ghostly pale woman, I hate summers — I require so much sunscreen! Good sunblock is expensive, so I am truly excited about all the SPF available here! It will be hard to choose!

    • I’m ghostly pale too but I don’t like getting sunscreen samples because I feel that they are too small to really see if they work. I’ve gotten some great full size sunscreen products from Memebox that I’m very happy with that don’t smell bad or make my eyes water like most do.

      • I like these small samples to reapply if I am outdoors (like at the zoo or a ballpark). Easy to throw in my purse.

      • Oooh, I didn’t know Memebox did sunscreen! Good to know.

  35. While I can see the relevance of the sun care products, this is all a miss for me.

  36. I am thinking I will pick the Real Chemistry peel or the Vita Liberata self tanner.

I need to even out my tan from all the hiking I’ve done with my tall boots.

  37. I will go for the curated box. I love bronzer samples since they last me a while and I can never have too much lip color. I think there is actually a sample of the Davines Love Conditioner hiding behind the bronzer in the photo too!

  38. I’m going to go for the Real Chemistry. I love their face peel and serum. Nothing else here interests me at all.

  39. I love Real Chemistry, Supergoop, and COOLA. Hard decision this month.

  40. Nothing here looks super exciting to me. I don’t want the curated box or the sunscreen oil. I think I’ll pick the gradual self-tanner, or maybe the body peel or face moisturizer.

  41. These are all so great! I think I’ll do the curated on one account because I’ve also wanted to try Hoola and I love the Coola makeup setting spray (I got it last summer). And then, Real Chemistry for my second account because I already own and love the face peel. Tough choices this month!

  42. I need that curated box! Can you still invite friends in order to get early access to selection? I went on to Birchbox and couldn’t see where in the past I have put in my friends email? Anyone see if that’s still an option?

    • I don’t think you can. At least I’m not seeing that option. It looks like you’d have to be an ACE (which I was almost one at the end of last year and I forgot it reset me in January. I was like 20 points away 🙁 ) or you’d have to buy at least $25 in the shop. I feel like that’s silly. I understand the ACE’s getting early access, but I don’t know, I just don’t like that they’re making you spend $25 just to get a sample choice a day early. That’s not worth it to me. I’m also just not loving the sample choices/curated box this month so I may just let the whole thing be a mystery.

    • At the top of your Birchbox page under your name there is a drop-down menu that says “Invite Friends, earn points”. I know for orders over $25 the cut off is April 25th to get early access, so maybe it’s the same for inviting friends?

  43. I’m guessing that note means that the Real Chemistry will be much smaller than the one in the picture? Still most interested in that – after months of getting them, this curated box isn’t grabbing me.

    • Yes, they said in the video that they couldn’t find the sample. It was around there somewhere…

  44. I don’t regret cancelling this one bit! So sick of seeing the same stuff over and over. It’s disappointing because I did find a lot of great things through this sub that I still use to this day.

    • I totally agree!! I’d let my sub run out when it’s done, but I have another year on it 🙁 I’m sooooo sick of Cool and Supergoop, I know people love it, I do not. I get it all the time. And real chemistry, I have 4 of those peels things, I’ve never used them. The curated box is a miss for me too, I might just leave it a surprise and pray I get something I like.

      • Maybe you could put some of those items on the swap page? Just a thought. I think I need to start using the swap page more, because I’m getting to the point where none of my friends want the stuff that I’m not wanting either.

        • I highly recommend swapping! I have a lot of catagegories of product that I never use (bronzer, dry shampoo, eyeliner, etc) and it’s been great to clear it out of my home and pick up things I can use from people who have stuff they couldn’t use that I love (curly hair products, candles, notebooks, etc).
