Chisel Shave Club is a 'wet shaving' subscription that 'scours the every corner of the internet to find you the best wet shaving products each month.'

Chisel2

Subscription box:  Chisel Shave Club

Cost:  $29.99/month with discounts for longer subscriptions.  You receive a free double edge safety razor handle and brush with a 6-month or 12-month subscription.

So first, a quick note - I was shipped the December box to review, so I believe if you subscribe, you will get the January box, full of other goodies that I don't know about yet.

I am new to the world of wet shaving - like today new.  My Dad used to use a brush and soap to shave (I have no idea if he used a single blade razor like this), and I used to love watching him lather up the brush.  I think there are many old-fashioned daily rituals that were done away with, many times due to time constraint and convenience, and I'm happy to see some of those more time consuming rituals start making a comeback.  I hope that makes sense to someone other than just me!

Here is everything that was included in my box.  I received the razor and brush that you would receive if you sign up for a 6 or 12-month subscription.  This box is obviously aimed toward a male audience, but I was excited when I opened it!  What can I say, soap and grooming products are my thing.  The filling in the box will get everywhere though, so I recommend opening it over a trash can, or in an area that you can easily clean!

Dr. Squatch Natural Soap - Cedar Citrus - $7.00

This is a massive piece of soap that will last you quite a while.  It smells heavenly, and is full of oils, shea butter, and essential oils that will make you want to sign up for their subscription after using it the first time.  It's very moisturizing and doesn't smell so good that a man would think he was transported into an Herbal Essences commercial - it smells good, but not that good.

Brickell Clarifying Gel Face Wash - $7.50

This face wash has a natural salicylic acid, aloe vera, and various teas and oils in it.  I really like the formula - I don't usually use gel face washes, so the texture is a bit new to me.  It isn't drying, and it just seems like a great basic face wash.  It does have a slight pepperminty scent, which leads me to the next product...

Brickell Instant Relief Aftershave - $13.00

This aftershave also smells pepperminty, but they offer an unscented version as well!  I generally like my facial products to be fragrance free, just because I don't want to smell something strongly all day - but if it has to smell like something, at least it's peppermint!  This goes on very smoothly, with a bit of a refreshing feel (probably due to the mint).  It also has hyaluronic acid in it to aid in the moisturizing process.  This is a winner, and I'm going to sneak it into my change-averse husband's bathroom to see if he'll use it!

Shaving Brush - $10.00?

This brush is included in the 6 and 12-month subscriptions and it doesn't appear to be sold separately.  It is a very nice brush, the bristles are super soft, they don't fall out easily, and it applies the soap smoothly.  Since I'm new to wet shaving, I can't really compare it to other brushes, but I would say this is a great starter brush!

Red Leaf Black Tea Shaving Soap - $4.25

I would estimate that my soap is about half of the cube I linked to.  It's a nice size, and it also smells great!  It's a very clean scent, and it wouldn't bother me to have this scent on my face.  It lathers nicely, and didn't leave my skin feeling stripped of oil!

Chisel7

Double Edge Safety Razor Handle - $20.00?

Again, I have to estimate here since this is included in a 6 or 12-month subscription.  This is a very heavyweight razor handle - definitely not going to fall apart any time soon!  It was easy enough to get the razor in, and gripping it wasn't difficult.

Astra Superior Platinum Blades - 5 ct. - $2.00

These blades are forged in Russia and they are platinum coated stainless steel.  The platinum is supposed to give a smoother shave.  I was really surprised when I pulled these razors, and the Shark Super razors out of their packaging - they were much thinner than I anticipated!

Shark Super Stainless Blades - $2.00

These blades are stainless steel, and made in Egypt.  The information card mentions that they are known for their consistency and sharpness, which makes them a favorite among many shavers.  I used one of these to wet shave for my first time - since I'm a bit of a klutz, I did nick myself, but I did a lot better than I initially anticipated!

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $65.75 - keep in mind that I did have to estimate for two of the items, but those aren't shipped as a part of the monthly subscription.  The value without those two items is about $35.75.  I was definitely introduced to a new experience through this box, and I enjoyed all of the items I received.  I can see the usefulness of a box like this for someone that wet shaves regularly - you get exposure to new brands for blades, soap, and other shaving/grooming products.  Since this is a smaller company, I don't expect values like what PopSugar can bring to the table - this value is right in line with what I would expect and I am happy with it!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!
