Swap Site Updates

Thank you to everyone who suggested this update (and a shout out to forum feedback/suggestions!)

Now when you go to start a swap, you will see this message if the swapper hasn't been active on the site in over a month. Hopefully, this will make swap requests/planning easier!

Let me know if you have any questions/suggestions, and as always - thank you so much for sending us feedback on how to improve the swap site! 🙂

I recently got off the swap waiting list a couple of months ago. I’ve never swapped anything yet because I don’t quote get how you do it. I do visit the swap shop every now and then to see what’s being swapped. The part I don’t understand is okay say I find something I’m interested in getting how do I know what they want in return. Does it have to be some other item I may have gotten in one of my subscription boxes or money? Also do I have to list things, too? I just feel a little funny listing something to swap that was like a $1. Another question when it comes to swapping or selling than item do you go by the value the box claims the item is worth? I have so many questions and I don’t want to be removed just because I don’t quite understand it yet. 1 month is a short period of time to not be active and get kicked off. I too am fairly new to subscription boxes. Even though I have gone a little off the deep end and subscribe to waaay to many at this time because, it was/is fun and exciting. It can also be quite disappointing, too! I would love to swap some items I do have because there are a lot I won’t use. I’ve also reached out in the past for an explanation as to how this works but, was always ignored. I don’t know if it was because I was still on a waiting list at one time I requested info and another time right after I got off the list. So if someone could kindly tell me how the process works I eould really appreciate it. Also sorry to make this message soooo long and for rambling on.
Thanks?

I second Michelle’s idea!

Don’t worry, you won’t actually be kicked off after 1 month. Your ID will just say that you haven’t been active during that time period. Once you start being active, the message will disappear.

I’m interested in joining the swap site but when I tried recently it said I was on a wait list. ??? If users aren’t active for a certain period of time, do you make room for new users this way? Thanks.

I think I subscribed to MSA in early June. How long does it normally take before you are eligible to swap and how would I be notified?

Also do most people who swap also add their items to the store where you don’t have to be eligible to swap?

I don’t know if I understand it completely. I haven’t swapped in awhile and have no listings. Will I come up as not being active in over 30 days if I list a new item or does the clock reset at the time of listing?

PA Anna, this is from the thread on the forum:

Per @msaeric, here is what these swap site messages mean:

“This user is no longer active.” means that the user has been removed from the swap site for good. This is not a fraudulent user, but someone who requests to have their account removed.

“This user hasn’t been active for more than a month.” is the new Activity Indicator message. This message is triggered based on actual swapping activity, for example sending a swap request, adding an item, leaving feedback, etc. Logging into the swap site does not count.

Thank you!

Liz, what does “This user is no longer active.” mean for a swap profile?

Alicia

Does logging in count as being active? I don’t subscribe to many boxes, so I don’t list much, and therefore am not able to swap very often. I also haven’t had time lately to look for things I may want and make swap requests, but I do occasionally log in to see what’s up.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I have been wishing for a MSA forum since I discovered this site, and did mention it a few times when Liz would ask for site suggestions. MSA is definitely my most-trafficked site! The constant improvements based on subscriber feedback is truly awesome, and somewhat unique! Thanks again Liz!

I checked out the swap page (that I didn’t even know was there, forgive me, still figuring subs out) and I have a few questions. Do the items have to be used? For example, if I get a hair product from birchbox and spray it three times but hate it is it still eligible for swap?

Reply ButtonReply

Rowsdower

Yes, it is still eligible for swap as long as you mark it used. Some swappers will only swap for new, but there are some that will take used. Epically in your case where it’s a spray bottle (as opposed to a jar that someone might put their fingers in).

This makes the swaps much easier.. Awesome update.. How about including the swap site aswell in the MSA app? Cant wait to see that.. I use MSA app a lot and it will be awesome if the swap site is also included in it.. Also another thing is about the notification button for the app.. Whenever there is a new review/spoiler it would be good if a notification pops up just like in email? just few auggestions that rolled through my brain.. I dont want to miss any of your reviews ? addicted to this site.. Great effort and awesome blog Liz.

Sowmya, MSA is working on making the swaps its own app, since there’s so much to it! =]

This is ah-MAZE-ing!! Thank you for all you do!
I’m still crossing my fingers for Available Categories in the Followed pages. 🙂

What a great addition! I hate when my swap requests go ignored, why can’t they just cancel?

Reply ButtonReply

Erica

I usually leave swaps open and check back a few times to see if anything has been added that I might want. Am I one of those pissing people off?

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

I do that too. Everyone has different swap preferences, it’s hard to please everyone. I don’t even notice if I send a request and it expires, lol. 😛

sara

No, no I’m talking people that ignore it for a week or more till it expires. Or just never respond.

Rowsdower

Erica,
I do that sometimes too. I leave them a note In the comments section saying something like: I don’t see anything right now, but we can leave it open a few days and I’ll check back
That way, they know what’s up. Sometimes they’ve replied: oh I have such and such that you’re following, just not listed. I can I’d that works for you…
I’ve found my best swaps include conversation.

Jennifer

AMEN to that!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you so much!!!! Being the “fairly newbie” that I am (3 months in now), I know I’ve sent many requests to people who haven’t checked pages in a while. I’ve gotten better about being able to tell, but this will be a tremendous help! Y’all are so amazing in listening to your folks and do a wonderful job with this site!
