Subscription Box Spoilers – Do You Peek?

Subscription Box Spoilers

I post about a new subscription box spoiler at least a few times a week, and I want to know – do you peek at spoilers?

I personally can’t resist looking at any new box spoiler. But on the few occasions where I’ve received a box without knowing anything about what’s inside, I’ve really enjoyed that too!

Do you look at all spoilers? Only ones when you are debating about signing up for a box? Or do you go completely spoiler free?

  1. If there’s a spoiler I am lookin πŸ˜‰ I love spoilers!

  2. I am WEAK, WEAK, WEAK….I almost always look at spoilers!! LOL! πŸ˜‰

  3. I do!!!! But I’m going to try and resist! It spoils the fun…although Instagram always ruins my fun because I’ll see a spoiler from the company scrolling through!!!

  4. I always look at the spoilers!

  5. I try to avoid them most of the time, as I immediately wrap boxes in Christmas wrap and put them on a shelf and save them as presents to myself. It’s fun at Christmas if I have no idea what’s in the boxes.

It’s hard to avoid the spoilers sometimes, though, when people comment on the contents of a box in a different thread than you were expecting, like a shipping update for example, or when the “popular in swaps” picture on the side of the page shows something that you knew was in a box, but didn’t know what it looked like until that moment.

That said, though, I tell myself that by the time Christmas gets here, I won’t remember what was supposed to be in any box anyway. Well, I hope, at least!

  6. I love spoilers, thank you. I like to plan ahead what I will keep, gift, swap, and when not to subscribe. Please keep it up! ?

  7. I never ever look at spoilers for boxes I subscribe to. That’s the whole point for me, I love surprises! I do however look at spoilers for one-time purchase boxes to help me decide whether to buy them and I look at spoilers for every single other box out there that I don’t get. I love living vicariously through you Liz!

    • πŸ™‚

    • Ditto – I love getting a small surprise package in the mail a few times a month! I never peek, but agree with Annie about the one-time boxes.

  8. I’m weird and like to alternate the knowing with the surprise. With Ipsy especially I would look at the glam room one month and completely avoid it the next! I’ll almost always look at the first spoiler though, because who can help it sometimes πŸ˜€

    • Same here! Sometimes I look at complete spoilers, and sometimes I like the surprise. I almost always look at one-item spoilers, though – I can’t help it! πŸ™‚

  9. I prefer not to look at spoilers if I know my box is coming…however, when the shipping is so staggered and I know there is more than 3 days to wait then I look. But I SUPER love getting boxes without knowing what is inside them.

  10. I love spoilers that is one reason why I signed up with Liz . I got to see the Target beauty boxes on sale and actually got to order them. With out spoilers I would never of know what was in the target boxes. Plus it does help make up your mind if you are going to try a different sub box or try a new one. πŸ™‚

  11. I never look at spoilers unless it’s a new box I’m considering. As others mentioned above, I am always so bummed when posters comment on threads (that do not have to do with the specific box in question) and reveal the spoiler. For example, I had purposefully avoided the spoiler for the fall Zoe box and someone above let me know I’ll be receiving a watch in next one, which I most definitely didn’t want to know (this happened with the summer box too). First world problems to put it mildly, I realize, but still….

    • So sorry, I believe that was me. I will be more mindful in the future.

  12. I love the spoilers. Since I am swimming in products and trying to restrain myself, most of the time I only order one box after looking through spoiler and having a heebeejeebee feeling. The only subscription I am loyal to four years and don’t care for spoilers is birchbox, because of the point system…

  13. I always like getting spoilers. However, I don’t like it when people spoil the surprise for others, like if a post isn’t a spoiler, and then a commenter includes a spoiler. Although I personally like spoilers, I want to respect others’ wishes who don’t.

  14. I can’t help but to look at them when they are posted.

  15. If it’s a box I have ordered, I only look at partial spoilers that are officially released. Usually this is just one or two items–enough to get me excited about the box, but still leave some surprises.

If it is not a box I have coming, but I am thinking about subscribing, I always look at the spoilers. The downside of this is that if I like the spoilers and the box is no longer available, I am kicking myself for not ordering.

I do like that MSA always clearly labels posts containing spoilers, so I don’t accidentally run across them. (other blogs are not always so careful with that)

What really annoys me, though, is when people put spoilers in the comments of a non-spoiler post about a box I am expecting. I’ve had several boxes spoiled for me by commenters on this site. πŸ™

  16. I only ever need one spoiler to sate my curiosity. In fact, just signed up for GlobeIn a moment ago based on the spoiler (used a really great deal for their “giveaway entrants” that was expiring on the 31st). When I see full spoiler emails in my inbox, I quickly delete and shake off the heebie-jeebies…you’d think they were from an ex or something.

  17. I try to avoid spoilers. With the emails I get from the companies I subscribe too it can be really hard to do this. I will read hints and if I am debating starting up a new sub or ending one then I will check out spoilers to help me make my decision.

  18. I have decided to always look at spoilers. I’ve noticed a certain pattern… I order a box, I dream about what might be in the box, I see what is in the box and the box company once again failed to read my mind and fulfill my box dreams, I read opinions of other people who liked the spoilers, I start to get excited (where is my box? I’m not sure I like it all that much but SMART POST GIVE ME MY BOX), I get the box and discover that I like the items in it a lot more than I expected to and that sometimes the things I didn’t think were so hot end up being wonderful new discoveries I can no longer live without.

The couple of times I got boxes without spoilers first I wasn’t as happy because I didn’t have those few days (or weeks… watching my box leave my state to get transferred to a facility that can then bring it back to my state) to have comments from others who liked the products to get me to come around before the box arrives.

And yes, a spoiler does have a good chance of getting me to order something if I’m on the fence about it, especially for more expensive boxes or those that are new. It has also caused me to cancel a box if I know that the big ticket item isn’t going to be useful to me. Any boxes that include earrings should always have them as spoilers!

    • This could not be more accurate. I do the same thing with every box!

  19. Every month I tell myself I’m going to be strong and avoid all spoilers… It never happens. Just like when I was a child and snooped for presents every Christmas… Hehe I just can’t help it!

  20. Yes I read the spoilers…I have the patience of a 2 year old on a sugar high. Speaking of spoilers…I need more right now! Lol Pop sugar come on!

    • This made me laugh! πŸ™‚

  21. I avoid spoilers. Half the fun for boxes for me is the surprise element. Not enough surprises anymore in life! πŸ™‚

  22. I love spoilers, and half the time I have forgotten them by the time the box actually arrives so I’m surprised anyway.

  23. I love spoilers. It is enjoyable to read what is coming and what boxes are sending. I also enjoy it for new boxes. It plays a role in my choice on whether or not I subscribe.

  24. I only look at spoilers if I’m deciding whether or not to buy/subscribe. If I’ve got the box on the way already, then I’m covering my eyes and plugging my ears until it arrives!

  25. I love spoilers for boxes I consider subscribing to. I won’t read reviews for boxes I get such as glossybox or birchbox until I open mine because I like to leave those as surprises.

  26. I look at spoilers. I like to know what I’m getting. It doesn’t matter so much with beauty or book boxes, imo, because I’m not too picky. I wish geek boxes posted more because those can be hit or miss, whether you like the franchises/characters included and then whether you want the particular item itself. I love Spider-man, but do I want a Spider-Man toilet paper holder? I’m not so sure. lol πŸ™‚

  27. I always look at the spoilers. I want to make sure there will be at least one thing I love before I spend the money. I go back and forth on Popsugar depending on what the spoilers are. I’ve never liked something I saw in a spoiler more once I physically had it in my hands. I know right from the spoiler whether I’m excited about something or not. Spoilers are the best.

  28. I always look if they’re available on a blog like this one that I would be reading anyway.

But. I don’t generally go seeking them out.

I am the sort of person who reads spoilers for novels, though, and I have been known to skip to the last page to find out how it ends.

  29. I love spoilers especially when it comes to high priced boxes. For example, The Zoe Report gives the hero item and I really appreciate that. I didn’t need the watch in her next box (only use my Apple Watch ο£Ώ) so I canceled it and will sign back up after I see the winter hero item. And I love that Birchbox now lets you pick one item or the curated box that you’ll end up knowing all the items. I find that when the box finally does come I have forgotten what I’ve picked until I see it so I’m still surprised ?!

  30. I can’t resist spoilers, I have absolutely no control lol. I’m always stalking this site or MUT for new spoilers. Still dying to find out what’s in August’s PopSugar box. But I find when I’m completely surprised or there weren’t spoilers, like with LLB I’m a lot more excited about it.

    • I feel like we usually have PS spoilers by this time in the month!!

      • I think so too, maybe it’s because they didn’t sell out of the July box??

  31. I definitely peek and love the spoilers on my monthly boxes. I would never buy a $100+ box without seeing a spoiler first and I would really have to love the spoiler on those boxes.

  32. Yep, every time. I’m stalking sites today looking for a PopSugar spoiler, LOL!!

  33. I love spoilers. I am pretty able to remind myself that they might look better in person when I am disappointed, so I rarely feel let down. And, there have been several times I was getting ready to buy something, only to find out it was already coming in my box! Money saved!

  34. ALWAYS look at spoilers. Used to unwrap/re-wrap presents under the tree too!

  35. I do but I wish I didn’t. Would love to be spoiler free and enjoy the surprise but I don’t have the willpower. However, I do have BeautyDNA which is always spoiler free. And I have SpaHeroes which doesn’t get a spoiler per se but does give a hint (which I think I’ve guessed this month).

    • That being said, I always look at spoilers if I am ‘considering’ a box or a particular month for a box. So I would not want spoilers to be removed or not given.

  36. I like spoilers. I don’t like to get my hopes up and it ends up being a big let down. Might even work for the company. If I’m caught off guard by a poor box, I’m likely to cancel instantly. Whereas if I know there’s nothing to be wowed about, I can plan ahead (gift, find alternate uses, etc.)

  37. #SpoilerFreeIsNotForMe

  38. I love spoilers! I always peek. I like to check the ones I am subbing and ones I am considering.

  39. Love spoilers!

  41. I’m not one of those people who do well with surprises.. my head would probably explode without spoilers lol.

  42. i love the spoilers, i do look at them and it does not diminish in anyway my excitement to get the actual box!

  43. I avoid spoilers! I love surprises!

  44. I will looked at spoilers for everything but my Popsugar. That one I try to be 100% spoiler free on so I have a little surprise each month in my mail!

  45. Always. I always peak. I can’t resist!!!

  46. I avoid spoilers because I love surprises — that’s the main reason I sub in the first place! Heck, I don’t even choose the guest-curated Birchboxes because I don’t want to know what I’m getting. πŸ™‚ The only time I’ll sneak a peek is when I’m deciding whether to start a new sub or dump a current one.

  47. I can NEVER go spoiler free!! I did it one time & I swear it wasn’t as fun being a surprise. Half the fun is reading everyone’s comments, thinking about how I’m going to use the items, etc etc

  48. Always waiting for the spoilers ?.. L

  49. Love, love, LOVE spoilers!! ? Thanks, Liz, for all you do for this community!

  50. Spoilers!! Love them!
