What do you think of the spoilers? My first thoughts are that they definitely delivered on what they promised for the theme, and I'm happy with all the sizes of the products.

Knowing that the theme is all about hair, I know I would want to try it, as I never know what kind of hair product to use. I’m usually shampoo, conditioner and air dry kind of gal. No fuss of any kind. However, I always wish that someone would show me a crash course, or a starter kit of sorts. This box is like that for me, and I do appreciate the curation. I know that this box may not be for everyone, but for me, it fits a personal gap.
I receive my box today. I also like that each item is wrapped individually. I thought that Nina’s letter is well craft too. I’m actually excited by most of the items, except for a few things that target usage with heat styling tools (don’t have those, and not plan to use heat either). I really like the hair brush, and it goes together with the full size wet brush from PS. I also like the hair clip as well. I don’t have enough hair to secure a pony tail, but it work nicely for a up-do hair bun when I tried that.
I can’t wait for the weekend to try the rest of hair care.

I finally received my box (yesterday) and I have to say, I wasn’t thrilled when I read about the contents on this site. It all seems like stuff I could/would have picked up for myself over time from the local CVS. I’m familiar with the brands in the box and I really look to sub boxes to introduce me to products that I wouldn’t find on my own. I was really hoping for an exotic, amazing shampoo & conditioner but instead, I ended up with all these styling items (not particularly high end styling products). Yes, the brush is fantastic and honestly I probably never would have purchased a $50 brush on my own. I received a small version of the barrette. As one of the other readers commented, it is made of wood, but I find the wood to be strong and flexible. My hair is a bit longer than shoulder length so it works for me. Overall, it strikes me that there probably wasn’t a lot of effort put into this curation and it seems that quantity won out over quality. I think I’m going to cancel my subscription as there are so many subs out there that do deliver.
It’s really easy to overindulge in subscriptions but since I do have MSA as a resource I’m getting a better handle on sorting out which subs are worth my dollars. Thanks Liz and everyone else for contributing!

Admittedly I have straight long hair, but I thought I was going to hate this box once I saw the spoilers and yet again, once I had it in hand, I was impressed. Definitely don’t need this many hair products, but it’s quite a haul and a lot of really luxe stuff. I actually do think Nina Garcia put in the time to curate this. I much prefer her other boxes for the variety, but I’m happy with keeping some and swapping some. I hope she sticks with Quarterly because I’m looking forward to the next one!

I really liked the box! I do see how it might not be as useful for certain folks, and I personally don’t need all the volumizing products, but I do have long highlighted thick hair and most of the repair items are really great for my hair. Love the brush as it is one of the few that can get through my thick course hair and the barrette is gorgeous! Personally, this one is better for me than a lot of her other boxes. If i had shown up for work with the stud bracelet or the ear cuff from the first few boxes, it just wouldn’t work for a tax lawyer and I didn’t like the last box at all. I may stay subscribed since the box may be boring, but I can use most of the items in the box.

Now you got me thinking I should see if there is a box available. I love the accessory and it sounds like I can use the brush. There are a few other items I can use.

I have very curly hair so I can’t use most of these products. Please email me at [email protected] if you want to buy mine.

I’d be interested in buying the box if you want to get rid of yours. Let me know.

I’m curious about the hair accessory. Does it work with thick hair? Maybe I’ll check swap to see if it is listed.

I LOVED this box! I was excited unwrapping each item. I almost bought the Living a Proof overnight perfector at Sephora the other day. I’m looking forward to trying the Shu Uemura. Love the brush! I never would have bought myself a luxe brush, but very happy to have one. This box was a win for me, but I do have long straight hair, so that probably helps.

Ok, so I got my box today and I’m pleased. It helps that I have long, course straight hair, which seems to be what most of the products are geared to. According to my calculations the retail total for the brush and products is $298. No idea how much the hair pin goes for, but I have a feeling it is the “muyito cool” hat of this box as in it will be impossible to trade/sell, but maybe I’m wrong, people might love it but it’s not my taste at all. Plus, the fact that it is stiff wood I can’t imagine how it would sit on the head. Maybe if it was made of leather or something pliable it would be more practical?
My only other issue is that the GHD coupon code included expired on 4/30, and I’m pretty sure not one subscriber received their box in time to use it.
Anyway, I’m pleased, but I tend to spend a lot on similar products at the salon or ulta. I’m excited to maybe find a new favorite.

Just checked the ghdHair website and the entire world gets 20% off – not just NGQ05 subs. So there is no benefit for subbing to Nina’s quarterly. Just when I thought I couldn’t get more cynical….

I love the hairpin! I’m wearing mine to hold my hair in a low ponytail at the back of my neck. I can see how it wouldn’t work with everyone’s hair or aesthetic though.

Different strokes and all that 😉 glad you like it 🙂
Maybe I’ll try it out and be pleasantly surprised.

The postman delivered my NG05 today. I have a mid length bob – definitely not long enough for the hairpin, which is lovely but going to my daughter. I DID NOT receive Sachajuan’s Hair Repair but even without it my items total 10. Do the Redkin products count as one even tho there are two. Here’s the run-down of the items in my box:
1. Shue Uemura’s the volume maker
2. Serge Normant’s instant volumizing spray
3. Federic Fekkai – PRX mask
4. Philip Kingsley Elasticizer
5. L’Oreal’s perfecting Balm
6. Redken’s pillow proof primer
7. Redken’s extreme length sealer
8. Harry Josh Brush
9. Living Proof Overnight protector
10. Hairpin by Masterpeace
10 items as promised but missing one according to the note from Nina. I am confused. I’ll contact Quarterly to let them know I didn’t get the Sachajuan item but what gives? 10 or 11?? N.G. has sent out a box with the “big ticket” item (hair pin) totally geared towards someone with longish hair and that eliminates quite few woman. I’ll use what was sent but it certainly doesn’t live up to the hype that preceded it, for sure!!! Now I have to decide if I can go thru this again with the next box (in August maybe, if lucky). I’ve been getting this sub since NG02 and feel like the biggest sucker alive. OK, done with the rant… Thanks for letting me get this out of my system!

Thank heavens for spoilers!! I just canceled. WHEW! I am so disappointed. In my dream NG box here is what it should have included: An amazing brush(like the one she included), a shampoo/conditioner that she has tried/liked, a high end straightening serum(not a 6.99 one), a full size luxe hairspray/texturizing spray (like Oribe!!!), some type of oil, and a some awesome accessories. Not 5 different repair items. I love her style and have loved her other boxes (I am still trying to swap for the Koki clutch) so I will probably re-sub for her fashion boxes.

I agree with you. I was expecting a full size Oribe item since that was expressly mentioned as one of her favorite products and I have loved the smaller sizes in other subs. I was deluded into hoping that this box would contain a styling “tool” – just didn’t think it would be a brush. Way, way too many repair items… Oh, well. Hopefully I’ll be sporting “perfect hair” but I think I need to have one of Nina’s stylists working for me. HA!!

Just got my box. I am so mad at myself for spending 100 I want to cry. So bad. At least 3 products have to do with hair repair. The barrette thingy can only be used by people with long thick hair. I realize you take a chance with boxes and I didn’t particularly like NG’s last box but that was more about my personal taste. How long did it take Nina Garcia to curate this thing? An hour? Did she even curiate it? I feel completely duped this time around. I cannot believe Quarterly let this go out. Never again will I order another box from them.

I feel the same way about Bianca Jade’s latest Quarterly MizzFit box – $50 dollars I will not get back, on a poorly (IMO) curated box (and the value barely even reaching above the cost of the box)… 🙁

Liz do you know if Nina will do another hair box? I’m kicking myself for not getting it as I think it would be a great gift for my mom because her hair is just starting to grow back in from chemo and I think a box of luxe hair products would make her feel pampered!

I second emailing Quarterly. I cancelled my box right before it billed.

I was so tempted to subscribe to this box, but I’m glad I didn’t. I’m not even interested in trying most of these items. They just seem so generic, like products I already own (but in brands I like more).
The brush looks cool, but it’s not a must-have in my opinion. I just ordered the Living Proof Night Cap, so I’m interested in trying it but I don’t know if I like it yet. I’m not interested in the other products, and have actually already tried the Redken Pillow Proof and didn’t really like it.
It would have been nice to have more of a variety I think, like others have said – maybe a mini hair dryer or flat iron. Also, more accessories or just something unique.

I am SO, SO glad I cancelled.
This box is not only BORING and disappointing. The only nice things are for people with long-straight hair.
Most of the products are unsuitable, and they contain a host of ingredients, I would not want to put on my hair, like parabens, silicone, etc.

Who got the blow dryers? I feel naive into thinking she would have sent us a smaller verIon blow dryer or tool. That is what is trully missing from this box.

Now this is something! Not one item To remember ” I got it in Nina gracias box” all hair styling products that will either get over in no time or will never be used. So much for the ” tools” there is just that brush and the clutch thing. I still remember her first box. The luxe! The love . This box is like ” I am going to a supermarket and will pick up one from each section” :p

This seems so out of line with her prior boxes. I did order and am waiting for my box to arrive. I received confirmation a few days ago but last I looked the box is lingering somewhere in Ohio. I do use and an interested in selling products but as others have pointed out, there’s nothing here for ethnic hair. I’m also hoping the hair item is something special and viable for my hair type. I’m in the fence about continuing my sub with her. There are so many really cool boxes out there that there’s no need to sub to something that doesn’t follow through on being cutting edge. No only an I an addict I think there’s a lot of risk taking going in here, lol. I love it!

I cancelled and I’m glad I did. I’m sure this box will appeal to some, but I don’t see any multicultural hair products. So this would have been a complete waste for me.

This box is for a small sub-population with very long hair, who straighten their already straight hair regularly.
Everyone else will not be able to use the box in its entirety, making the items you can use overly expensive.

Apparently I should have bought this box. 😉 I’d rather give Liz or Zoe my $.

Using Amazon, dermstore and guessing on the hair slip at $50 based on what some of her other hair accessories go for (not readily available except at high end retailers). I estimated the retail value of this box at between $325-$375.

If the hair barrette jewelry is from Masterpeace as stated above, then it is likely an expensive piece of hair jewelry. looking around the web, I could not find this piece, but her headbands sell for an average of $300 each. I suspect that the star of this box, really isn’t the brush as much as the hair barrette, but not having seen my box yet (tomorrow hopefully) I can’t say for sure. Based on the picture I will like the piece since I have long hair and pull it back alot.

I wasn’t too excited about the hair piece (mine is much different than the picture) until I tried it tonight. Wow, it is gorgeous!! If you wear your hair up a lot I think you will love it. I am excited to see the other variations!
