New Geek Subscription Box: FanMail Box

New Geek Subscription Box

FanMail Box is a brand new geeky subscription box! This one caught my eye because it is founded by two women who saw a need in the geek subscription box category. From the About Us page: "I'd subscribed to other geek subscription boxes and found them lacking. Some of my favorite TV shows and movies, whose audiences generally consist of women, were excluded. I wanted a box that included items like jewelry, tote bags, and nail decals, as well as action figures and comics. I wanted to create a box for women like me!"

The Subscription Box: FanMail Box

The Cost: $21.99 plus shipping (shipping to Pittsburgh PA was $5.76)

The Products: FanMail boxes contain a variety of memorabilia and collectibles, some old, some new, some handmade, some fanmade. Among the items you may find are exclusive comics and t-shirts, jewelry, stationery, books, autographs, photos and much more. And each month, you'll get a handy pop culture newsletter that will tell you what movies are coming out, what's up for streaming and binging, and what conventions or events are out there that you may want to attend.

What do you think of FanMail Box? Would you like to see it reviewed? (Also - if anyone is interested in helping me out with geeky subscription box review - shoot me an email!)

THANK YOU! I’d been racking my brain trying to find this thread and couldn’t remember the name of the box. I wanted to swap Ash over to this from 1UP. I already added her to “Gamer Girl”. Liz, I’ll make sure to send you opening up that one.

U r welcome! Glad I could be helpful

Cara

I was really excited for this and going to sign up until I realized that their site doesn’t have any encryption or security features on the page where you enter all your information. Call me superstitious but I’m not entering my credit card information on a site without any security features. I’m pretty bummed. I’ve been waiting for a box like this.

Jenny

Hi, Cara, this is Jenny from FanMail! I just wanted to let you know that, even though it is not explicitly stated on the page, we use industry standard encryption techniques and stores all personally identifying information in a secure manner. So all your information is safe!

We’ve set our website up through Cratejoy and you can find out more information about its security standards here: https://cratejoy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203683629-Is-Cratejoy-Secure-PCI-compliant-

Tamara

Drat! I just tried to sign up and got the “Unable to communicate with the payment system” error. 😛

Rose

Hi Tamara (and everyone else!)

Rose from FanMail here! Our system is indeed up and running again – if you tried last night and got an error, you should have gotten an email from me giving you the green light to try again!

You all have been amazingly patient with us, and I appreciate it!

The website said they were having issues with & would post on fb when fixed. But in the message on here, the one girl was told it was fixed. I’ve been waiting to sign up b/c of that, but I don’t want them to sell out before they fix it! Could the CS person who’s been posting on here give us some insight on this?

Reply ButtonReply

Loretta

I emailed their customer service and they ran it manually (somehow) within the hour. You might want to do the same.

Tamara

Yep, that was why I tried signing up. I hope they get this issue resolved soon! 🙂

Rhianna

So, that didn’t take long. The hubs said YESSSSSSS! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO! I’m so excited to see what I’m going to get. Liz, you should definitely review this box, forgot to mention that before. Thanks for letting us know about this new fabulous subscription! You rock my socks!

🙂 I’ll sign up too!

Let me tell you about my experiences with customer service so far…

I emailed CS about the error in payment as well as to comment about getting larger shirt sizes. Oh, and to ask a question about a password issue because FanMail is a CrateJoy merchant like some of my other sub boxes.

I received a response in less than an hour and it addressed all my issues. David (yes, they do have at least one male employee!) quickly processed my payment. He told me they’d been having issues today but think they are now resolved.

He told me where to find my CrateJoy boxes (turns out I have five others that go through CrateJoy) and I got that fixed right away.

Most impressively though, he was very open to the idea of getting larger sizes. He is going to check with their t-shirt providers and see if this is possible. He said they were probably too far along in production for this month but maybe next month it could happen. And he assured me that he would get in touch with me as soon as he knew the answer.

All in all we went back and forth about three times. Each time his emails were prompt and on point. So far, I’m impressed.

I’m going month to month to start simply because of the t-shirt issue. If that’s a large part of the value each month then it doesn’t really do me much good. But if the other goodies are impressive enough then I can always swap the shirt! BTW, shipping to New Mexico was 9.00.

Correction…the man was named Mark not David. David is my nephew. Sigh….love these senior moments!

I WANT, no *NEED* this box. I was a subscriber to Loot Crate for a short time, but aforementioned above, it always seemed more toward boys. I’m so curious to see what’s in the June box (maybe ONE official spoiler, please? Lol). I just have to convince the hubs that $7.70 in shipping is worth it. He was like ‘go for it’, until I said how much shipping was. BUT, I have ways of convincing him. Cross all of your fingers for me!

Reply ButtonReply

Ann

Aww man, it is $7.70 in shipping to my house! I guess I will stalk the reviews before deciding to jump into a subscription.

Reply ButtonReply

Ann

Oh man, I might have to check this one out!

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

I’ve never subscribed to a box before its first box before. But for THIS – I’m probably in. I haven’t checked out the site yet, but chances are I’m going for it.

SO. Excited! At last!!

(P.S. I hope to see plenty of Buffy/Whedon!! :D)

Jessica

I’d definitely love to see this reviewed, and maybe even try the first box. ‘Fantasy’, is a genre I absolutely love!

Reply ButtonReply

Pao

This looks like a very promising box! I’d love to see a few reviews of it in the future, especially since it seems it will feature different things that other geek boxes might not have.

Reply ButtonReply

Angela

It would be great to get a spoiler before signing up…

Reply ButtonReply

Callie

Ah! I am so excited to see a box like this out there!!! I have been a geeky gamer girl my whole life and this is just so much fun! It felt like for so long we girls have been ignored or pushed to the side, but now we get to shine a little as nerds, geeks, and lovers of Fandom.

I always am trying to get my soap-box message out there that you can be anything you want to be, you can be a nerdy geeky girl and yet still be girly!!!

I sent you an email too Liz ^_~

Tamara

“you can be a nerdy geeky girl and yet still be girly!!!”

I agree with 100%!! (I’d say 1000%, but that’s a nonsensical term.) I too have been preaching this sentiment for years. 😀

I tried to sign up on the website and received the following error:

Error processing checkout: Unable to communicate with the payment system.

I also consider myself a geek, but not a gamer. My boys are gamers and geeks, so I do know some about the gaming world. I am interested to see what this box has in store for women.
