The Products: Receive a fun surprise every month and discover new brands and products that you never even knew you needed and now can't live without.
Each month Quarterly will reveal the theme and variations you may receive. For the first mailing in April, the theme is refreshments. There are three different varieties you could receive: coffee, tea or cocktails.

What a scam. I am so disappointed with Quarterly. I received my box today:
1. A box of tea- which I am almost sure was from a different quarterly box.
2. A cup that was in the Nina Garcia box
3. A blanket that was in The MysubscriptionAddiction box back in December
4. A very small water bottle.
All of the items I am sure were from different boxes.
I am through with Quarterly 🙁

Believe me you got lucky! The water bottle is probably from the college box and is great quality. I got the cocktail box which had the cocktail forks for the Chef Ludo Levere box, some bitters I think from Andrew Zimmern I think and some spherical ice molds. I don’t even drink much. All will go on swap and I am cancelling box.

I would love a tea box. I don’t drink alcohol or coffee. I actually need a tea box. I make tea by boiling water in a sauce pan on the stove top…

quarterly doesnt look at the value as much as getting something personal from a curator – and now they charge shipping. seems better to just buy from amazon (things one would like) than buy from quarterly. i’m looking at your GQ box.

i signed up…..( I really don’t expect to see a box every month ^^)

whatever happened to the march bill nye box? I subscribed and then canceled when they sent the email about charging for shipping (although I was grandfathered in with no shipping charge – i didn’t like the new policy). but the march box never came out and it now says his next box is July. Did anyone subscribe to bill nye box and ever get the march one?

I’m wondering why so many of you seem believe you’ll be getting actual beverages? Quarterly says (as usual) next to nothing about what will be in the boxes: “April’s theme is Refreshments! Each subscriber will receive one of the three varieties: coffee, tea or cocktails.”
Nothing about that says you will actually get drinks. I’d say that if you don’t like cocktails, you probably shouldn’t worry, since Quarterly is more likely to send a coffee table book with pictures of glassware than actual cocktail mixers.

Well I was thinking just that. That they’d send out refreshment tools or refreshment themed items. I actually hadn’t thought too much about them sending tea leaves or coffee grounds or cocktail mix (which they might do).

I feel like Quarterly is quickly going the route of Fancy–garage sale items with little feel for thoughtful curation. I received this email, and they put a price on the box, with no promise of value.
Perhaps this is why you jumped ship, Liz. I’m so divided on Nina Garcia’s box. Her spoiler is a $48 hair volumizer of some sort, and there will be 10 other items or so?!? Her boxes usually have great value, but her last box was before so many bad Quarterly changes, so will it be another $60 worth of sample sized items?

I’m very tempted to get Nina’s box, but I’ve been dissapointed by quarterly before regarding price of the items in the box vs the price of the box. I’m pretty sure that if I love something from this box I can get it from Birchbox which have: loyalty points, free shipping (I’m an Ace) and a coupon or a GWP.

I was strong until I saw that it was one of three random collections. Random surprises get me everytime!

I can be swayed by random surprises. But I have a 2/3 chance of getting something I don’t want/can’t use. That’s enough to steer me away. (I drink about once every two months and usually it’s just wine. And I don’t care for coffee. I’d be all over a tea box, but it didn’t look like there was a possibility to choose.)

Man, I feel like I should jump on this, considering so many people wouldn’t like a cocktail box! If I didn’t get that one, looks like there could be trades!

I love coffee, tea, cocktails, etc, but i don’t know if i $40 + shipping (in addition to what i normally buy) love them… Though i got hot chocolate and marshmallows in the Food52 box and i $50 loved that.
For those that don’t drink, if you get stuck with the cocktails box you can make mocktails or different flavored sodas with it using carbonated beverage (like seltzer water). it’s nice to have options available for friends that don’t drink and can still join in.

As per usual, they offer no real spoilers. Knowing Quarterly–and trust me, I tried many, many of their subscriptions and was uniformly unhappy with curation and/or value–a refreshments box will probably include something like a coupon for iPhone case for a model you don’t have. The case may be the color of coffee.
As cool as this subscription *sounds,* everyone should keep in mind that with Quarterly, you can guarantee every subscription will be 2-3 months late, be worth less than what you paid, and not have much to do with the theme.

Quarterly is going to send out a box every month. That’s hilarious!
Will the randomly send you 1 or the 3 options or can you pick. I love love love coffee and tea. Sounds fun but I can’t risk it. I don’t drink cocktails.

I like this concept! I’ll wait to see what’s in the first box and go from there.

I love the idea of this but I think they should allow users to specify which box variation they get. I love coffee and tea but do not drink alcohol so if I got that version I’d be let down.

It’s the same for me! I drink tea and coffee often but I don’t drink alcohol at all. I never have.

I have the same “problem” – I don’t drink cocktails save maybe a couple of times a year. I drink a ton of coffee but I’m not sure they could offer me anything coffee related that I don’t already have. The tea box I’d do if I could just choose that one.
Ditto what everyone else said about Quartely shipping late. I am eagerly and patiently awaiting my March Design Sponge box that is supposed to arrive May-ish. I’m okay with waiting, although how season appropriate could it possibly be if it was supposed to arrive at the end of winter and is actually arriving at the end of spring? I know, I know, the theme is “color,” but I still don’t want winter-scented candles! :-p

What a great concept for a new box. I’m going to wait to see what’s in the first box before I subscribe.

I am going to try it! I love the idea of the theme and hope I get either coffee or tea since I don’t drink much. Also hope the value is there. My Rosario Dawson box just got charged so I am looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us.
