I picked up my box today and I have to be honest. It was underwhelming. I would’ve expected more of a mix of genres but all I received was contemporary romance.
In all, 1 paperback and 3 e-books. Not the 4-6 e-books advertised.
3 tattoos (not at all interested in promoting someone’s website on my skin)
Postcard promotional to BUY someone’s book
Autographed booklet advert for Jayne Rylon
Harlequin tote
“Swag”: dust cloth & beer/soda holder (funny enough, I’m most impressed with the dust cloth)

If anyone got anything different I’d love to hear about it! Or your opinions of the value of the box.
Thanks!

Opened mine today, here is what I received

Busted by Shiloh Walker. This book is 3rd in series. Kinda wishing that they would have sent either the first book or a standalone book.
Harlequin tote: I will use this. Horse show season is here so I can put all our snacks/grooming in this.
Jayne Rylon autographed collector’s guide
Drink coozie
Dust cloth: used it today
Lip balm
3 pieces of candy
2 tattoos: kinda odd… Still thinking on how I can use them without putting them on my body.
3 ebooks and 1 to purchase which isn’t something that I will read so no big deal.

I think that the value is here for the 20 bucks that I paid. Not bad for the first box. I am going to give them 2 more months to get a good feel. If it doesn’t wow me then I will cancel. I will read almost everything and use most of the other stuff. So I’m happy.

I think my box is exactly the same – it’s at home, I’m at work right now. I wasn’t wowed but not quite underwhelmed either – I haven’t priced anything out but value-wise I definitely wasn’t ripped off. The tote is nice (if you’ll use it – I think I will), we love “coozies” (beer/wine holder) so for me it depends on if I actually enjoy the books themselves so I can’t say yet.

I think I’m going to cancel for now though – b/c I’ve been buying too many subs and don’t really need this one.

Hi just contacted Ande, at Fresh Books about when the box will ship. I was told that the first month is June and that they’ll be shipping the last week of May. So, we’ll get the box as close to the first of June as possible.

Oh, another book box sub? I’ll def be keeping an eye on this and see how it goes.

I emailed to ask them about their cancellation policy and haven’t heard back yet. I really might give this a try, but I need to feel like I can back away easily if I need to, so I am still waiting on an answer.

Please let us know what they say, thanks!

Well, it took until today to get an answer which was:

“You can cancel at any time, like Netflix.”

What I don’t like about this answer is it took quite a while to get it, and it does not say how to cancel. That’s what I really wanted to know. I am not in to the email us thing.

I signed up! I’m more of an ebook person + I get them free from the elibrary so even though I love to read, I haven’t really even been tempted by a book sub until now.

elibrary doesn’t have all books or swag so that’s where the value might be for me – assuming I like the books & swag! $20 for 1 month is worth trying – I like romance every now & then, esp during summer. Then I can always give the paperback to my sister too – she loves her “smut” novels as we call them.

I love Fresh Fiction and mainly read romance so I jumped on this subscription as soon as I got the email from FF earlier today. Cannot wait for the first box!

I poked around their website and it seems romance-centered. I do think it’s a great price and look forward to reading the first box review in May.

Shame, I just saw the ‘sign up by the 20th’ bit. Does that mean the boxes don’t ship until the 20th of the month (so the next won’t ship until May 20th)? As, just missed the April 20th (by a week).

PA Anna

They announced it today. You have until May 20th to sign up for the first box.

Thanks, Anna. I signed up as soon as I got the e-mail. I noticed that afterwards, so made me curious. =)

Valerie

I signed up! I couldn’t pass up the price or that it’s books! $20 is a great deal for one book (even if it’s a surprise) PLUS at least 4 eBooks (which can also be expensive/as much as a hard copy book each). So I think the value is there. Can’t wait to get my first shipment =D Used the code, even at $25 a month, I think it would be worth it (if you go by the prices on the book and not amazon prices 😉 )

It does look too romance-y for me, sad I want to try a book subsription, but one that’s more in line with the price of the box. I don’t want to pay $20-30 for 1 book.

I signed up! I’m a bit addicted to book boxes (I do Indiespensable, Trust Fall, both of the Book Riot quarterlies and Just the Right Book), so I couldn’t resist! From their website and their social media pages, it looks like the boxes might be mostly romance, which is right up my alley, though romance can be a bit hit or miss sometimes. However, it’s definitely one of the cheaper book boxes I’ve seen (especially considering you’re getting at least 5 books), so it’s certainly worth a shot!

Looks like romance novels and perhaps some other pulp fiction. Pass!

Paperback and e-books make this attractive to me. It’s definitely on my to watch list. Oh wait, I just saw the coupon, maybe I need to jump on it!
