Birchbox May 2015 Sample Choice Spoilers!

Birchbox has revealed the four samples subscribers can pick from for May. (Thanks Briana, Kate and Lori for the heads up!)

Here are the sample choices:

Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Treatment

Harvey Prince Sea Salt Hair Mist

Naobay Body Lotion

Real Chemistry Luminous 3 Minute Peel

Or instead of a sample, you can pick the curated box:

Birchbox Curated Box

Inside the Beauty Solutions Featured Box:
W3LL People The Expressionist Mascara in Black
Number 4 Blow Dry Lotion
Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel
Cotz Flawless Complexion SPF 50
Juara Candlenut Body Butter

Subscribers will start to get emails to make their choice on the 27th. Full Details:

If you’re a subscriber, keep an eye on your email inbox on April 28th to choose your sample or select a guest editor box. Supplies are limited, so don’t wait! If you’d rather not choose a sample, don't worry: We’ll create a great box for you based on your Beauty Profile.

SAMPLE CHOICE EARLY ACCESS! All Birchbox Aces will automatically get early access to sample choice. Not an Ace? Not to worry! You can get early access too, just by referring friends! Here's how: Simply enter at least one friend's email address on your Birchbox refer-a-friend page by April 26th. And that's it! You'll get your sample choice email on April 27th—one day earlier than everyone else.

What do you think of the choices for May? FYI – if you haven’t subscribed yet, get $5 (50 points) to spend in the Birchbox shop when you subscribe with coupon code SUBSCRIBENOW50

And here are the Birchbox Plus Add-On options for this month:

i just subscribed and this will be my second box…first time getting to choose, if you don’t have the upgrade can you pick the yellow box ??? and from your past experiences would it be better to go with the yellow box or the curated box???? thanks

Liz

I just cancelled. I was not given the choice to just opt out of the beta upgrade, so I just cancelled all together. I thought about emailing them, but I went over my past samples… it wasn’t even worth the effort.

I think I’m going with the curated box. Nothing terribly exciting in it, but after reading the positive reviews of the mascara, I’m interested in trying that. Plus, I like knowing for sure that I’m not getting any shampoo! I’ve recieved the chemistry sample before and didn’t really care for it. I’d like to try a salt spray but that sample looks super small. And I’ve sampled the macadamia oil before and, while it is nice, I have enough hair oil to last me for the next year anyway.

I’m a Birchbox newbie. How many box choices are there? Which one is the yellow patterned box? Is that the same as the Beauty Solutions box?

This month is a hard choice! I really like the curated box but won’t use the blow dry stuff… And out of the sample choices I was thinking about the hair oil or the peel but I read the peel was made in China in a comment above so I’m not so sure and I don’t really “NEED” any hair oil because I have a full bottle I swapped for of a different brand.. Lol. Oh the choices!

In the majority here… not excited for anything. In fact, I think I’m going to skip May altogether and not use any of my 4 accounts. The actual boxes aren’t even that cute. What a bummer!

Lisa

Nobody has asked if Liz was possibly the guest blogger this month???

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

I wish! 🙂

Lisa

You were the first person I thought of, I think you would be an awesome guest blogger!!!

nana

It’s probably a beauty blogger rather than a subscription box blogger, but they’re silly not to ask you to do it. I can’t imagine anyone doing a better job.

Vanessa

I’m not into any of the sample choices and will probably pass on the curates box too.

I like the necklaces but they are too expensive for what they are. I would pay $15 for one, but I think $24 is too high for a necklace that is designed to fall apart!

Dogeared is a great company (Made in USA, certified B corp.) and their necklaces and other jewelry, although delicate looking, are surprisingly long lasting. My daughter has been wearing the make a wish necklace I got in a swap for many months and she is rough with stuff. $24 is a fair price, they come beautifully packaged as well (I’ve ordered from them directly as well)

zomg i thought the same thing. “make a wish so when it breaks…” cheap materials that are going to break on me are NOT a selling point or added-value!

I don’t think I’ll be making a choice either. I got the peel this month and it’s made in China, so I won’t use it 🙁 And I definitely don’t want more hair products or lotion. But this begs the question of what I actually want, after just a few month of subscription boxes I feel I have enough cosmetics to last me quite a while 🙂

Danielle

Meh, I’m not excited about any of the sample choices or the curated box. I might not pick this month, because I don’t really need any hair products, don’t want lotion, and already received the peel as a sample once before.

The necklaces are cute, but I don’t want a necklace that’s designed to break.

Once again this month, those of us who upgraded to the Beta subscription will not be able to choose the curated box. This is really disappointing since we have committed to spend an extra $20 for two full size item we may not really want to have chosen otherwise. So I’ll be cancelling my beta upgrade.

Briana

I’m thrilled with the options this month. I don’t know what to choose. The only thing I definitely don’t need is more hair oil. I might go with the curated box because I like W3ll people and I think I’m the only person who hasn’t gotten a sample of the Number 4 blow dry lotion yet.

Brandy

Well good for me; I will be surprised. I have received a few of the sample choices already and they were tiny and blah. I am going to let this be random for May. I am on hair care overload also. I was hoping for a nice skin care or makeup choice. I have received the peel already also. The curated box looks decent for the #4 products I love. I will just go random.

I need a little help ladies. I am new to BB. How many box choices are there? I see you can pick a sample..and then there was the box with the yellow pattern…a beauty solution box…and a box if you don’t make a choice?? Think I need BB for dummies!

Reply ButtonReply

E.

There are tons of combinations of boxes. If you like to be fully surprised, just let BB choose based on your profile. If you love one of the sample choice picks, then go with that one and BB will pick the rest of your box. And if you want to know exactly what you’re going to get, pick the curated box!

Bekki

I’m a Birchbox newbie, so I have a question. Does everyone get to choose a sample or a curated box? The way (I think) it reads, it seems like I would get to choose as well. I can’t even find on my account what I’m getting this month (Should be the MadMen NY box), and everyone talks about checking theirs before they get their box, so I think I just don’t know what I’m doing!

Reply ButtonReply

Melanie

Bekki- Yes everyone gets to choose. You can choose one of the samples, or the beauty solutions curated box, or make no choices and your box will be a surprise. You will get an email on April 28th that will allow you to make a choice. If you want to make a choice, do it as early as you can so you can make sure you get what you want. Sometimes some of the sample choices will “sell out” quickly.

In addition to those choices, you can also add a Birchbox Plus item, which for May is the necklaces she shows in the video. You will pay the price (I think the video said $24) for each necklace you choose. If you do choose a Birchbox Plus item, it will come with your May Birchbox.

You can see what is coming in your box only after it ships. Once you get your email that it shipped, go to the Birchbox site. At the top row you will see Your Box. Click that, choose “this month” from the dropdown menu, and it will show you the items in your box.
Hope this helps!

Towards the end of the month subscribers get a chance to pick one of the samples for their box from a choice of approx. 4 samples, OR pick the curated box, or you can choose to not pick either and be entirely subscribed. Birchbox Aces get to pick first, the ACE sample choice email is sent a day or two before everyone else’s. Sometimes the curated box or one of the sample choices is very popular and if you aren’t quick, it may be unavailable. However, the one time I missed out on a sample I really wanted (Miracle It’s a 10) I emailed Birchbox and let them know how badly I wanted to try it and they did include it in my monthly box! People know what they are getting before they receive their box by checking (after the 10th of the month) their surveys, found under “This Month’s Box”. Hope this info helps!

We are on the same boat!

Jill

I love Macadamia Oil products! So I’ll be getting that for sure.

Ashley

I think I have a Mad Men box hangover. haha None of these choices excite me. I love that Real Chemistry Peel sample, but I have a few of them, and I got it from Birchbox in December, so I won’t even get points for it if I pick it. I’ll probably go with the Beauty Solutions box. Liz raves about W3LL People, so that mascara will be nice to try. And, thanks to Birchbox, I think I could open up my own Number 4 hair salon. Enough already! lol

They just can’t get rid of the Naobay lotion. I don’t like the lemongrass scent. I will have to think about this one. (I have two Ace accounts.)

Reply ButtonReply

Caddie

Oh, shoot. I was hoping it would be a new scent. The lemongrass one I received last year leaned much more toward industrial floor cleaner than earthy.

Reply ButtonReply

Katherine

Ugh, it reminds me of insect repellent. Hmm, I may try it this summer…

Denise M

My choice will be the curated box

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

Bummer. I don’t care for anything this month. I would get the curated box, but I really just don’t need any lotion or masacara, and I’m so tired of Number 4 products! The sample choices aren’t much better. I have 3 samples of that 3 minute peel that I haven’t used. Tried it once and it burned my skin so bad. I couldn’t even last the full 3 minutes. On the other hand, I was not aware that Harvey Prince made hair products. That sea salt hair mist looks promising, but the sample looks to tiny for my thick hair. I guess if I pick, I will get the Macadamia oil treatment. I sampled their other oil when it was offered as a sample choice and I liked it. I’m kind of overloaded on hair oils right now, but I will eventually get around to using it… Then, the Dogeared necklaces, they’re so cute! I loved the one that they sent out in Popsugar, but I just can’t pay $24 for something that is supposed to fall off.

I’m going with the curated box, for sure! It seems to always come out on the better end of the deal…plus I’ve been wanting to try the number 4 blow dry lotion for a while now! I received the Naobay body lotion in a mystery pack…it has a light scent, it’s organic, but other than that, it’s nothing special.

Megan

Where are the birchbox plus choices?

I love that naobay body lotion!!

Reply ButtonReply

Sandra

I have no idea what to choose. Can anyone offer me suggestions?

Reply ButtonReply

Angela

Man i’m hooked on that Real Chemistry 3-minute peel! I’m definitely getting that with BOTH of my subs! SO EXCITED!!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Katie Sparks

Choices choices choices! Hmmm. Not sure what I’m going to do this month. I may choose the guest editor box on one and then choose the salt mist for my other box. Gonna be hard to follow up the great Mad Men boxes from last month!

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

Damn I don’t like the sample choices and the only item I like in the curated box is the Juara lotion. That stuff is amazing, smells fantastic. I’ll probably just let them choose for me, but last time that happened i got a crappy box. I’ve picked the curated boxes for like the last 4-5 months lol.

Reply ButtonReply

jmd

I’ve picked a sample or a curated box for months and months now.. done okay mostly. I want nothing from these selections. I’ve received half the stuff already and the other half aren’t things I will use. I think I will leave it up to chance, I have heard a lot of people last few months saying they have gotten fantastic boxes by not picking.
