When I saw BareMinerals had a Mystery Box I was so excited I placed my order right away… THEN I saw the bad reviews people posted and I kind of panicked. I called customer service to cancel, and they were so nice; they said they would absolutely cancel it, but that I could so keep the order and just return the box if I didn’t like it. I’m lucky enough to have neutral-toned tan skin that can carry a lot of colors, so I decided to go for it.

When it comes to subscription boxes, not every item is going to be the perfect fit for every person. So even though there’s a couple items that weren’t my favorite colors, overall the value is great for me. Here’s a list of what I got.

Prime Time Original Foundation Primer (foil packet)
Soft Focus Face Brush
Brightening Pearl Perfect Light Mineral Veil
Charcoal Big & Bright Eyeliner
Midnight Big & Bright Eyeliner
Rose Natural Lipgloss
READY Touch Up Veil SPF 15 – Tinted
READY Eyeshadow Palette – The Exotic Escape
Racing Green Prime Time Primer Shadow
Mini Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer
Patent Leather Makeup Bag that easily fits all the products.

I thought there was a nice diversity in this box. We got products for skin, eyes, and lips. I also thought it was curated pretty well for a box that’s probably helping them get rid of last season’s limited edition items. The The READY Eyeshadow Palette and the Racing Green Prime Time Primer Shadow go nicely together. I’m not one to wear green eyeshadow, but my mom has totally different coloring than me and she gladly took these two products off my hands. The READY Pressed Powder might be too dark for some people, but it was perfect for me, and I can’t wait to wear it on “no-makeup days.” It doesn’t have very much color, but take the shine away really nicely. I expected the Brightening mineral veil to be really glimmery, but it’s not at all, it just gives the skin a nice dewey finish. I used the soft focus brush to apply it and I think they’re a perfect pair. Sorry for the overly long review, I just wanted you to know I had a really good experience in case anyone’s on the fence when the next box comes out.

FYI – I checked the batch codes on all my products, and 4 of them are INCREDIBLY expired. The Racing Green Primer, for instance was made in July 2011. I don’t think it’s safe to be using liquid eye makeup that is almost 4 years old. The tinted mineral veil (which I actually already have, and like) is from 2012. Since it is an SPF product, you can bet that is not longer good as well.

I emailed, we’ll see what they say.

What are the other two old products? Please update when you hear back from them!

Thanks!

I got my mystery box today. I’m really happy with it! The Soft Focus Face Brush is amazing! The Brightening eyelid primer is really pretty and, I think, could be worn alone for a natural look. I got another eyelid primer/shadow in “racing green” and it’s gorgeous. The eye shadow palette is gorgeous, too. The only thing I might not be able to use is the READY Touch Up Veil in “Tinted”. It doesn’t appear to be a shade they offer anymore, and it’s probably going to be too dark for me. Maybe it’ll work later on this summer. I liked the lip gloss. It’s very neutral, but offers some nice shine and moisture. I’m anxious to play around with all of it!

No way, no how. The last box was a joke. I tried a thousand ways to Sunday to complain to customer service and no one would reply until I tweeted about it on their page. I’d hoped for even a single lip product…or even just some variation in the types of products they sent!–but almost every single thing was for the eyes. Many were eyeshadow, and I don’t wear eyeshadow.

The good news is I was able to return the box and get a refund.

Caveat emptor!

Completely agree! I will NEVER order a box from them again unless its full spoilers. I couldn’t give the stuff away.

I loved the first one I got – it had a few skincare items and some fantastic makeup sets that I’m still using. The second one I got was horrible, random skincare stuff for all different types of skin, no makeup. The last one I saw also didn’t look great (all makeup from the clearance section) but I decided to jump on this one anyway. It seems like they have a hard time balancing these boxes so they include both skincare and makeup, it hope they’ve figured it out by now.

I’m glad I read about the past boxes. I love Bare Minerals. If you haven’t tried their complexion rescue…try it!

But I think I will save my money on this one.

I purchased the mystery box before the last one, so 2 boxes ago. It was one of the worst boxes ever. Not only was everything old, weird colors and/or discontinued for good reason but stuff was missing. All in all a huge disappointment, I will NEVER buy one again. I can’t even swap out some of the stuff. Just SO bad and I’m really not picky.

Just ordered mine… I am hoping they include the High shine eye shadows!!! Those are my FAVORITE and I have no idea why they discontinued them. Also I had a couple of dried up items in my last mystery box, but even without those items the value was still there for me. I got a couple brushes and even a brush shampoo.

i guess i’m the weird one that is obsessed with bare minerals : ) i almost always find a use for the things they send. i’ve only ever gotten one item that was skin-tone specific, and it was a very small value item. and while the shipping from this company is weird, since i don’t even know what i’m getting, it’s not like i’m in desperate need of it right away. so the waiting is not so bad!

Just ordered mine. I also got a FREE Pop Of Passion Lip Oil Balm ($16 value) With Any $60 Purchase with code “FABPASSION”. I did add another item to my car to get the order up to $60.

I love Bare Minerals, but I still have stuff left over from the last 2 boxes I haven’t even used yet. Plus I can’t tell what’s in this box at all.

Easy pass for me, I was unhappy last time.

I bought this one last summer and it was a FIASCO:

People had their orders confirmed and then canceled.
My order was not confirmed so I had no idea.
Customer service gave conflicting updates.
They ran out of some items and made replacements without notifying us.
The box took weeks to ship.
Several products were skin-tone specific.
Several products were old or gunky.

I got a rash (turns out I’m allergic to bismuth! but I’m weird and plenty of people are not and can use these products just fine) and ended up tossing most of my items out. There was a cute patent-leather bag that came in it, but I was crushed to have paid 40+ for it.

Oh man! Fool me once, twice… I LOVED the first mystery box! Loved it! Great variety, great value. The last two have been abysmal! Tiny dried samples, multiples of the same product, discontinued products/colors. Soooo not worth it, in my opinion. I wish I could believe in it, just not for $45.

Are there any promo codes to get so,ething free with this?

Yeah, no thanks. Last time this was available it was a fiasco for me. Charged 3 times, several days to get that fixed, then got an email stating that the boxes were sold out and sorry but you didn’t get one.
