***FYI to all who purchased the Gilt City deal***

I hadn’t received a shipping notice and their FAQs said they ship priority mail by the 7th of each month, so I contacted customer service. It took almost a week for a reply. I was upset by what I was told. Here is the exact response:

Hi Erin,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
You’ve asked a great question – and yes, our boxes do ship out by the 7th of each month.
It looks like you subscribed through our Gilt City deal and unfortunately, we still do not yet have the finalized order info for each subscription yet from Gilty City and we’ve since mailed out the October boxes. All of the Gilt City subscriptions will begin in November (again, mailed no later than the 7th) and should take 2-3 business days to reach your address.

Hope this helps!
Thanks!

First off, I shouldn’t have had to reach out to get this info. This is the company’s responsibility to push out important details, like not getting your subscription for over 8 weeks after you initially paid. Second, it’s incredibly unprofessional to not honor a deal using a third party seller like Gilt, Rue La La, Groupon, and then leave those who paid hanging. They certainly seemed to have all of my subscription info when they charged me shipping through their own site. What I’m sure this means is they haven’t been paid their cut by Gilt yet. And I couldn’t care less about that. Transparency and proactive communication are very important to me when subscribing to a new company. This sub has failed on both accounts so far. It left me feeling like if I hadn’t asked, I might never have received anything period. I’m contacting Gilt for a possible refund because this is unacceptable to me. At some point between Sep 26 and today, Oct 13 someone could have contacted me about this little detail. It was a good deal and seemed too good to be true; for me, it was.

I was just wondering when I would start receiving my Flicker box, since I bought the voucher. I’m ok with it starting in November since it said that on the voucher, but if it takes till December, that’s really poor planning on their part. Not really fair that one person was able to receive an October box since they contacted Flicker box but oh well.

Erin-

I reached out to Flicker through a FB comment after seeing that the subscription started with the November box (which is actually listed right in the Gilt City page in the details – I just happened to skim this). The same day, I received an email from the Flicker founder with a sincere and kind explanation (that has nothing to do with getting “their cut” from Gilt):

“We ship our boxes the first week of each month – our October box is scheduled to be shipped out on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The Gilt City deal does not end until October 7th, so by the time we receive all the orders from Gilt City it will be too late to send out our October box. We order our inventory for each month over a month in advance and we did not have the Gilt City deal set when we ordered inventory for our October box back in August. Basically we won’t have the inventory and at this point, we have definitely sold out of our October box. ”

When I expressed my disappointment, they remained in contact as they shipped out the October boxes, and were able to send me one that they had as an extra. I thought this was incredible customer service. And I can’t wait for my next box!! 🙂

I’m glad you’ve had a positive experience. I received no such email and had to chase down the info. I contacted them before buying the deal and was told specifically Oct would be my first shipment. That created a legitimate expectation. In fact, the company directed me to their FAQs to show me when to expect shipments. So this isn’t a failure to read the fine print situation. In addition, Gilt conformed they were still in the process of making payment to the company so that is absolutely what is still being “finalized.” Moreover, they stated they cannot guarantee shipments will begin by Nov and instructed me to contact the company directly (despite this being a term of the voucher itself). So I’d say my guess was spot on. This means it could take until Dec to receive a first shipment, outside the applicable credit card chargeback window should there be a dispute. Unless a customer agrees to such delayed delivery affirmatively and in advance, it violates federal regulation to ship on such a schedule.

Since not all subscribers received prospective communication, I think it’s more than fair to be upset at being forced to hunt down the details and then learn that you were given I correct information from the word go. Not a good experience, and it isn’t just me. But glad it worked out for you. That just doesn’t help me.

I’m excited for this one. It was on my wish list. I signed up for the 3 month which came to $47 after the 20% coupon. When I redeemed the voucher for the sub, I was charged a one-time shipping fee of $7. So for $54 I’ll receive a 3 month subscription which looks like it starts in October. Thanks for thee heads up!

Unfortunately, you won’t be seeing a box until *maybe* November. They are waiting for the Gilt deal to be “finalized” before shipping. I had to extract that detail from CS after not getting any communication beyond my emailed receipt 3 weeks ago.

I did a 3 month sub and I only paid a 1 time 7.00 shipping fee.

Just signed up. The $7 fee is a one-time thing, not for every month. An awesome deal. 🙂

Thank you Jane and Judy!!!! I didn’t know it was under a certain city, I was looking for my city. Now I will wait for my code. At least I know what to do now.
I got the 3 month sub. I like that it doesn’t auto renew. I figured some of the items will make great holiday gifts.
I used the 20% off code ( thanks Liz).

I decided to sign up for this, not for myself. I have so many goodies from other boxes that I thought I would get this subscription and make little baskets for the females on my list this Christmas. I enjoy, but do not love burning candles. Well, let me amend that. I do love them but, with allergies, sometimes they don’t work well for me. I did use the welcome20 on a new account to make this more worthwhile for gift giving.

I read the details and it actually says a one time 7$ charge at the time of redemption. Doesn’t appear to be recurring.

Just subscribed and am so excited- but missed the $7 / month shipping charge. Am bummed that I didn’t know that upfront – or that it seems the subscription doesn’t start in Oct. You have to wait till Nov!

After reading the T&C carefully, I see that if you sign up by the end of September, you will receive the October box with a theme of Leaf Peeping.

If there is one thing I LOVE it is candles, if there is one thing I don’t need right now it is another subscription box and I cannot stand paying for shipping. So it looks like I’ll pass.

This would have been awesome to built up a little gift stock pile for teachers and friends. They had me right up until $7 shipping.

Mary Jane

Me too. Was about to sign up but the shipping killed the deal for me.

I love candles and this is a good deal. It does explain that there is a one time $7 shipping charge and I’m fine with that. I also like that subscription will not auto renew. Looking forward to the first box.

I signed up for gilt, but i can’t figure out how to find or order this sub…help! Please.

I just did it and it works fine. When you get the voucher from Gilt city just click on the website address on it and click subscribe. Click the number of months you bought and it will take you to a page to put in your name and address and the voucher code. It will then say you owe the one time $7 shipping charge so add your CC information and submit it.

Jane

It’s in giltcity.com. You have to choose a city and it’s under Chicago. Hope this helps.

Plus you are charged $7 per shipment. If you pay for a 6 month subscription, you must add $42

I’m very tempted by this, I loved September’s candles and wished I would’ve subscribed for September!
