Hatchery Food Subscription Box Review - July 2014 Packaging

Hatchery kindly sent me this box to review.

Hatchery Food Subscription Box Review - July 2014 Recipe

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included, and profiles the makers behind the items. (I was also happy to see that on every product they include dietary info like: gluten-free, peanut-free, vegan, no sugar added, etc.)

Hatchery Food Subscription Box Review - July 2014 Jam

Diane's Sweet Heat Mango Habanero Jam - 1.5 oz Value $2

Saucy Sister Virgin Vanilla Bean Salted Caramel Sauce - 2 oz Value $2.75

This Mango Habanero Jam is spicy! A little goes a long way so I was able to use this jar to marinate our chicken dinner!

Hatchery Food Subscription Box Review - July 2014 Truffle

Arette Tea Seed Oil - 1 oz Value $1

Empire Mayonnaise White Truffle - 1 oz Value $2

We've tried Empire Mayonnaise before, and I really like that their flavors are noticeable but not overpowering. I think I might try this mayo with the Hatchery recipe for Tempura String Beans with White Truffle Mayo dip!

Hatchery Food Subscription Box Review - July 2014 Spice

Whole Spice Paella Spice Mix - Value $5?

Bill's Best Original BBQ Sauce - 2 oz? Value $2?

I was planning on making vegetable paella after seeing a recipe in a magazine, so this spice will cut out a few steps for me!

Verdict: I think this is a great subscription for anyone who loves to cook. I love that Hatchery has so many recipes featuring all of the items in the box. This isn't a high value box - I think it's about $15 worth of items, but it is a great way to try out new products without committing to full-size versions. I would like to see them get the value a little higher though.

What do you think of Hatchery?

What a waste of money! My daughter got me a 6 month subscription for Christmas for $150.00. What a shame!! The amounts are TINY!! and they come with only 1 recipe per ingredient…if that recipe doesn’t appeal to you, well then, too bad! Also, invariably the recipes are not correct. For ex: “Huevos rancheros with Cotija Cheese, Avocado, and Cilantro” doesn’t call for ANY cheese! The recipe for “Morrocan-Style Chicken with Apricots and Olives” calls for 1/2 cup of flat-leaf parsley, plus more for garnish, plus 1/2 cup cilantro – but doen’t say what to do with them! Not that these things can’t be figured out – but REALLY?! Also that same recipe calls for 3 TBSP of the Far East Spain Blend spice they included in the box – but they only included about 1 TBSP!!

I got my first box today and was a bit disappointed in the tiny sizes of everything. Also, even though it is six months later, my box contained the salted caramel sauce and the habanero jam.

I got this as part of a three month subscription through Living Social back in December. Judging by this, I will definitely not be continuing.

I would discourage anyone signing up with Hatchery-Their support doesnt exist – despite countless calls and messages – there is no response –

I’d kill for some of that salted caramel sauce and the white truffle mayo. Wasn’t crazy about May’s box though. To buy or not to buy…

After seeing this, I’m a bit disappointed that I bought a month’s sub.
