Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - August

Blush Mystery Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box from Blush.com. I’ve been very impressed with this subscription in general because of the value (usually over $100), the brands (typically at least a few high-end  lines), and the size of the items (everything is usually full sized or deluxe sized). Lately it seems like they are going for less items, but more full-size items, which is fine with me!

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - August 2014 Items

The Subscription Box: Blush Mystery Beauty Box

The Cost: $24.95 a month (or $34.95 for a one time purchase)

The Products: Over $100 of beauty products.

Ships to: US

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - August 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - August 2014 BB Matte

dr. brandt BB Matte – FULL SIZE! Value $39

SkinMedica Dermal Repair Cream - .25 oz Value $18

This BB Cream has semi-sheer coverage, and I love the matte finish. It is the light to medium shade, and works for my skin tone, but I hope Blush Mystery Beauty Box refunds at least a part of this box for subscribers who do not have a matching skin tone. (Especially considering it's the most expensive item in the box!)

And based on the comments on the spoiler post of this box - I can't wait to try out SkinMedica!

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - August 2014 Pixi

Nailtiques Nail Lacquer - FULL SIZE! Value $9

Pixi Lid Last Shadow Pen - FULL SIZE! Value $18

I really like Pixi products, and eye shadow pencils are my favorite for smokey eye looks. It was easy to apply and smudge, and I really like the graphite color!

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - August 2014 Hair

Neuma Style Texturizer - FULL SIZE Value $24

Nick Chavez Plump N’ Thick Thickening Shampoo - 2 oz Value $5

I don't usually use hair texturizer, but I gave this one a try since I was very impressed with the ingredients and the reviews it gets. It's a little sticky (at least on dry hair) but it does hold well.

Verdict: I paid $25 for this box and received over $110 worth of products! I think this is one of my favorite Blush Mystery Beauty Boxes to date - I will use everything in tbe box, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that 4 out of the 6 products were full size!

What did you think of the August Blush Mystery Beauty Box?

Hi Brandy,

I just read the beauty fit website. It doesn’t sound like their will be two blush boxes to me but rather the same one we subscribe to took over. I could be wrong but that the impression I’m getting. Did you see it mention two blush boxes anywhere?

Brandy

Sorry. . Yes I was wrong 🙁

Brandy

I guess that means we have two mystery boxes.

After trying out the products I have been pleasantly surprised. I was really excited about the bb cream but I hate it; it smells like latex paint & I don’t feel like it offers any coverage at all. I normally use Aveeno tinted BB cream and I love that so I guess I’ll stick with it.
I love the SkinMedica moisturizer and the hair texturizer!! I recently got a wave perm & it was awful – my hair usually looks stringy and has waves only on the underneath but with using this product my hair came out looking exactly like the beachy fun look I originally wanted! I will probably never use the Pixie but I’ll hold on to it just in case. Overall, I’m loving this bag. I did have to call because the polish wasn’t in my order but they are shipping it out.

Heather Rudow

Follow up – I’ve put the Pixie up for swap. I just don’t get that glammed up to warrant keeping it.

Brandy

They told me they may have to ship a whole new box out. All I needed was the BB cream . Wow!!

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

When I first called, the guy I spoke to said they would ship a new box but I got a callback yesterday from Blush asking me what product was missing because they would only ship that item. I thought a whole new box sounded too good to be true!

Brandy

I have a question guys.

Is your BB brandt cream really difficult to get out?

Mine appears sooo empty?
I’ve used it one time, just a little. The consistency is liquidy too???

Is this normal?

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I thought the same thing! I just got mine today and was uber excited about the BB cream, that’s why I got this bag. And the bottle is like 1/2 empty and the consistency is very watery, I shook it up and it’s better, but still very disappointing the bottle isn’t even full. I love Pond’s BB cream for 1/3 of the price.

I called on the bb cream, told them it felt 1/2 empty, when it was opened. they said it is supposed to be that way, and told me they said would not send me a new one. I was thinking of canceling my blush sub, yet this is the only time I’ve had an issue, but they said that is how the product is supposed to be. – Still irritating though. – Glad I did not pay $39 for this product, I would have been more aggrivated,

Sneaky Burrito

I haven’t used this, but I had a lot of trouble getting a different dr. brandt product (microdermabrasion) out of the tube. So maybe they are using a bad tube design?

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle D

I looked all online to find someone with this issue and finally found this!

I was only able to use my tube three times and it’s completely gone and what is left? Air!!!

I contacted Blush and they said that they would email a label to send the entire box back and then they would send me another box. That is the way they do it!!

Well I asked if they would mail me a label, I do not have a printer. She said probably not and that she would have someone contact me within 24 hours. I have not heard back.

I will say this is the very first issue I have had with them but not happy. I will probably just forget the issue altogether, it’s not worth the hassle but I’m just a little disappointed.

Vanessa

Hi Brandy, I did notice that it is liquidy too so for sure that must just be the formula. I have only used it twice and haven’t had any trouble getting it out of the tube yet but I’ll follow up and let you know if I do.

Brandy

Thanks Vanessa!
They said they would send a replacement or a whole new box.

I ordered and received my Fabfitfun box today and it’s amazing. They include several full size items and I tried the Flash Facial retails $95 and OMG I love it. If you want to you can check it out. They mentioned they were almost sold out but they sent me a coupon if you want it. $15 Off another summer box. $34.99 for $245 worth of items with coupon. I just thought I would mention it. COUPON CODE 1943231

Brandy

I have combo skin and use the BB matte after moisturizing. Only a small ammt needed. I’m only 29 so it works great for me. I was not exited about the color of the pixi stick but I haven’t tried it yet. I love the skinmedica and only have slightly sensitive skin. It did not bother me much but just the slightest tingle/burn. I’ve never experienced that before but it is suppose to be good for sensitive skin and dermatologist recommended. They actually sell it at the dermatologist for $117+. The small size we received is worth $18. My face felt as soft as a babies bottom and it was not greasy. My face drunk it all in. I am only 29 but it is great to start young and I have some freckles so I am hoping it will lighten them. It has awesome reviews as does the texturizer. I am not exited about the hair care because I have super thick hair. I personally liked lasts months box better but I’m definitely keeping Blush as I have found many can’t live without items. I do like the nail polish and it’s a shade that I do not currently have.

My favorite items are the BB matte cream and skinmedica. Most people love the texturizer so I’m exited to try it. Even with the items I’m not crazy about, I got my monies worth.

Last month was the perfect month for me. I fell in LOVE with every single item!!!!!!!!
There was nothing I did not absolutely love last month. I can’t wait to get next month’s box already. I really love Blush. I’m addicted! 🙂

Brandy

As an update I used the skinmedica today and no bad effects.

I used the Clarisonic (I’m addicted to) washed my face with Bliss. Afterwards I used the Marcelle clay mask for 10-15 minutes, rinsed, dried and then used Skinmedica. My face looks amazing and so dewy like I don’t need makeup. The skinmedica makes my face super soft. Amazing!!

How do you guys like it?

I found two great items so far, I haven’t tried all the items and last month everything was a big hit!

I hope next month is even better. I hope there is less hair care or something that suits me better.

I love Blush!!!!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Vanessa

Hi Brandy- what do you think of the Marcelle clay mask? I was thinking of getting it but some of the reviews said its uncomfortable when its on because it makes your face so tight, is that true?

Shana

Got my box today, LOVE it! Thanks for those on this board who have been saying how great a box this one is. Going to have to try things slowly to see if there is anything I am allergic to, but I loving this box.

Got the Milan colored polish, very pretty. Need another face cream for the day.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with my first Blush box. I ordered because of the BB cream, and although it is the right shade for me, does anyone else find it very dry? I have a hard time blending it on my face before it dries. I do have very dry skin to begin with, and it’s formulated for oily/combo skin, so maybe it’s just not for me. I do use a good moisturizer beforehand. I love the skin medica dermal repair, and the hair texturizer will last me forever with my very short hair (a little goes a long way for me). The shampoo is fine, good for travel. I got the nail polish in Tahiti; a fuchsia color that will work for my pedicure. The Pixi eye shadow I just can’t work. I tried to use it as an eyeliner, but it’s too thick. I can’t do a smokey eye either; I look like I got punched. My extra was a tiny little Blush brand cream eyeshadow in Graphite. It’s a sparkly gray; lovely color, but again, I can’t wear it without looking like someone socked me in the eye.

Reply ButtonReply

Vanessa

Yes, I noticed the same with the BB cream. Its a different kind of consistency than I am used to. It dries very quickly so it can be a little difficult to apply. But, the results are awesome. I have oily skin so I am always trying to find products to help with this. I do find that when I use this BB cream, I don’t need to reapply powder as much because my face doesn’t get oily when I am wearing this.
I also got the cream eyeshadow in Graphite like you did.

Brandy

This is the color nail polish I received, looks like a great fall color shimmer. I abmit that I generally prefer the pink creme like you recieved and love pink but this is definitely a color I don’t have.

Reply ButtonReply

Vanessa

Cool. I didn’t know there were variations. I hope I get the burgundy shimmer. My box is supposed to be delivered today. My order said I also get a “free gift” that is probably because I am a new subscriber.

Reply ButtonReply

Brandy

Vanessa,

You will love Blush if you stay with them. Last month I found afew items I couldn’t live withoUt. That I never thought I would love that much. DR Gross cloths were one and of course they are 5* rated and pricey but I love them and the items last month were better for me.

You will also love Boxycharm $21 for 5 full size makeup, nail polish, skin care. Mostly makeup though! 🙂 box value over $100 high ends.

Brandy

Please let me know which shade you get. Fingers crossed. It is called Milan 315. 🙂

Brandy

The picture does not look accurate that I posted, it is a burgundy shimmer. I read the card that we will receive one of two shades. So pink creme or burgundy shimmer.

The skinmedica smells and feels amazing. Looks like a premium size sample. Everything else is terrific. I would have preferred the pixi shadow stick in another color but it is very nice and glides smooth.

I don’t know if the hair care will be right for my hair.

All in all the value is terrific and I’m pleased. I wish there were samples or a freebie of some kind this month.

Great value!

Brandy

I was kind of expecting the shampoo to be larger and texturizer to be smaller so for me I’m happy with it being this way.

I’m anxious to try these items and they usually throw in a few extra samples so I’m super excited as always with Blush. The best items, best value, fantastic cusTomer service and so far my number one with boxycharm coming in 2nd. Thanks for the review and enjoy!! 🙂

Brandy

I haven’t recieved mine but it’s suppose to be in the mail. I’m actually anxious to try the skinmedica and bb cream (I have light to medium skin tone). The texturizer isn’t something I would normally purchase but I am willing to try it out because of the great reviews. This will be my first eye shadow stick in a long time aside from Mally and I love the ease of use, makes me more thrilled about putting eye shadow on and this will be my first Pixi. The nail polish is definitely a color that I will wear and love. The Nick Chavez shampoo, well I have super thick volumous hair already that is hard to tame even with a straight iron and cream. PLUS I always use conditioner unless it’s a Wen type product. It will probably be the only item that I’m not too thrilled about. This is great and I’m already excited about next month’s Blush. The first item that I’m going to try is skinmedica. The Dennis Gross individual packs last month was the best facial product that I’ve ever tried! No wonder they get glowing reviews. I saw an immediate difference and feel to my skin. So much so that I never thought I would ever shell out that kind of money but will be fine with it. Plus the individual packing is very convienent and they won’t dry out. I’m starting to fall I’m love with many items from Blush. It kind of worries me. Lol! 🙁 uhhh oh. 🙂

I will update on how I love the items and how they work for me after I try them. 🙂

Vanessa

Ask and see what they say, maybe they can give you a credit on your next box? They should hopefully work something out for you. Or if all else fails, swap it on the swap site.

Reply ButtonReply

Sneaky Burrito

I had this one for a month or two, then quit. Am considering coming back to it if I quit something else. I don’t have a lot of these general types of items so it would be a nice complement to my stash of beauty box products.

Blessedmommi

Hi Liz,

So you think they will refund for the BB creme?
Unfortunately This shade is way to light for me. I didn’t know blush did refunds.

Reply ButtonReply

Brandy

Were you able to get a replacement or swap for the BB cream? They generally have great customer service!

What did you guys get as a free gift when you signed up? I got a nice eye lash curler as I thought was standard but Vanessa got an eye shadow which is really cool too! 🙂

I am pleased that my subscription boxes are spread out. Gives us something to look forward to. I have one coming in the beginning of the month, one in the middle and a few at the end so that works out great! 🙂

Blessedmommi

Hi Brandy,

I haven’t recieved my bag yet, but I will contact them once I do. Hopefully I get someone who is understanding and cares.
I’ve experienced good CS with then in the past, so hopefully this time I will to. My free gift when I first signed up was a lip balm/plumper tho a curler would have been nicer 🙂

Brandy

Blush is awesome and has the best cusTomer service. Explain that the cream is too light and they will probably give you another item an sometimes make up by sending freebies OR they would possibly give you a partial refund. They aim to please! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Well, I think a subscription box should never assume that their subscribers are all one skin color. I would recommend reaching out to them about it – hopefully they will refund part of the cost of the box.

Reply ButtonReply

maria

I contacted them about th bb creme and they pretty much told me “too bad”. Really disappointed 🙁

Blessedmommi

Thanks Liz,
I will contact them after I receive mine. I don’t think it’s shipped yet. I’m pretty positive that this item will be too light for me. So I will see what they say!

Erin

I’m in the same boat with it being too light. Maybe they can offer a replacement item/swap? I’m not interested in loyalty points (except for Birchbox and Julep, lol). I’m not sure how a refund would be calculated for just one item but I definitely think Blush needs to rectify this oversight. And in the future, if they’re sending skin shade-specific cosmetics, they need to offer some kind of color customization so as to avoid this situation). I imagine at least 25%, likely more, of subscribers fell into the it’s too light category.
