Swap Site Updates! Following Items & Boxes

Liz Cadman

Swap Site Feed

We just made some changes to swaps! In addition to following swappers, you can now follow boxes and specific items. (Thank you to everyone for their suggestions on these features!)

Here is the button to follow a box:

Follow A Box

And to follow an item:Follow An Item

You can check on all the listings you follow from swappers, boxes or specific items at on your swap feed page.

And - when you are browsing a specific item listing, when you view swappers, we'll alert you if anyone is following an item that you have listed. (Hopefully this helps make more swap requests get accepted!)

Lastly, while there is always some risk involved with a free swap site, our goal is to provide as much information as possible for you make the right decisions when choosing who to swap with. A few weeks ago we added the "# pending swaps" tally to swap profiles, and now we added this pop-up reminder that will come up anytime you are considering swapping with someone who has 10 or more pending swaps:

Swap Site Messaging

Also, we're doing a big upload of boxes to the swap directory soon - sorry for the delays!

Let me know what you think of the changes, and please keep your feedback coming!

We used to be able to click on a traders name/picture in the recent swaps thread. However I noticed that the names are no longer clickable. Will this be fixed? It was so convenient to be able to see what someone swapped and to click their name if I wanted to then request a swap from them.

I love the updates! Thanks so much for all the work you are doing to improve this site. I was wondering if there was anyway you could make it so if there is NO communication from a swapper after a swap has been accepted (after a set parameter of time) you could cancel or discontinue the swap. I have a few swaps, one from over a month ago, that were accepted on both sides but yet have never heard back from the other swapper. This makes it look like I have more swaps in progress than i really have, and i don’t want to discourage others from wanting to swap with me. Again I love this site…and for the most part have had great experiences! So thank you….and thanks to all the swappers I have been lucky to swap with so far! 🙂

This please! I think I may have one that went AWOL on me. Would like the ability to relist/cancel the trade after a certain period of inactivity.

I would love this too, a way to delete swaps that didn’t happen. I’ve had a few ladies contact me and tell me they couldn’t find the item they were supposed to send me. Those swaps sit in my “in progress” unless I leave them feedback. I don’t want to leave negative feedback or even neutral (which I did one time and the woman left me neutral feedback even though the issue was entirely on her side) but I also don’t want to leave positive feedback and mislead other swappers.

I am closing in on 30 swaps and have not had a bad experience yet. I suppose it is only a matter of time, but everyone I have dealt with has been pleasant and eager to make a fair trade. The way the site is set up makes it really easy to get started and the additions will help this along. Thanks so much for this opportunity to feed the addiction without creating quilt about items I can’t use.

Gee, I meant guilt, but a guilt quilt might work too.

Hi Liz,

I just started swapping a week or so ago and I love your site. Everything on the site works very smoothly. I really appreciate you taking the time to create this. I love getting rid of all my extra stuff that’s been sitting around (or all the random stuff I’ve given to friends) and getting items I actually want. I have one suggestion for an addition to the swap site. I don’t know if this is important to other swappers but for me it would be helpful if when I initiate a swap and I’m looking at the list of fellow swappers that the site tell me when I requested a swap from them for any product not just the product I searched for. Sometimes I’m looking for a different item and I’ve requested from a swapper before and they’ve declined but I don’t remember their name and I hate asking again when they aren’t interested in my items.

Does this make sense? Sorry for the long explanation.

Thanks,

Erica

Erica, don’t let a swap decline discourage you from requesting another swap from the same person. I think I speak for many when I say, I would rather be given the opportunity to review the swap each time someone is interested even if I’ve declined a swap from them before. This is a great community and I hope to swap with everyone at some point even if they might not have had something I wanted at one point. I don’t think of anyone here as a pest if I get multiple swap requests from them.

Also, it’s possible that they might not have found something in your list that matched their perceived value of the item you requested, but they would be glad to swap if you selected a different item from their list.

Liz…this is awesome and you are awesome! We appreciate all you do! One other suggestion for future enhancement…Would it be possible to add a field when listing a swap to enter the item’s retail value? I always manually add this into the description section of my listings, but many others forget to do this. It becomes quite time consuming to research and add up the values of what I request from others. Hoping that having a field for it might help entice others to include value in their listings. Thanks again for making swapping a fun and easy experience!

I think this would be a welcome addition for some and make it easier for those focused on MSRP. However, please don’t make it a requirement for us to research and list MSRP. Many of us are just looking to swap items we don’t want for items we do want and aren’t so worried about the retail price. (I received a facial serum with a $120 MSRP recently. It was one of 5 items I received in a box I paid $45 for. There was no way I would ever expect someone to swap me $120 worth of stuff for it. I swapped for a $25 bag and both my fellow swapper and I were delighted with what we got.)

I would love it if you could show the country the person is from when you are making a swap proposal or if you could search for swaps specific to your area. I am from Canada and it gets expensive to do swaps to the states because of shipping and duty.

We open up the waitlist every week or two, so it shouldn’t be too long! 🙂

Love it! I wanted to say “thank you” — after I commented the other day that I was on the wait list, it immediately opened up (not sure if you did that for me). I completed my first swap yesterday and it was SO easy. It’s really fun! I love it and have recommended it to a few people who also get the PopSugar boxes that I know. Keep up the great work!

Thanks so much Sarah – I’m so glad you like the swap site so far! (And thanks for spreading the word!) 🙂

Such a brilliant idea! I’m excited to get my swapping started. 🙂 I listed a few items this past week. Where can I find a list of the products I have listed? I want to make sure I don’t create duplicates.

When you are logged in to swaps, you should see your name and a drop down menu in the upper right hand corner. when you click on the triangle pointing down on the right, it will open up to all your personal swap info. (I attached a screen shot of what mine looks like). Click “View Your Profile Page” to see your listings.

Hope that helps!

You have done such an amazing job with this site! Thanks so much — it has been a blast swapping with other sub box enthusiasts. It’s always nice to know we’re not alone out there!!

I actually just started using the swaps section this week and now have a few swaps under my belt. I was always skeptical and thought it was too much hassle – but really, so far most of the traders I’ve dealt with have been prompt and friendly. Thanks for adding this feature!

Hey Liz! All these changes look awesome! Unfortunately I am on the wait list to join the swap site. How long do people usually have to wait before they are able to make trades?

Liz Cadman

We open up the waitlist every week or two – so it should be soon!

I am also on the waitlist and am wondering the same thing. Since stumbling upon this site, I am addicted! Thank you for the great setup, sneak peaks, discounts, and (in advance) for the swap section!
