FYI – This is a very new service, and they are still in beta. (I’ve found that their customer care is very responsive to issues and feedback though!)

The Subscription Box: Beauty DNA

Beauty DNA Subscription Box Review - June 2014 Cards

This month I got two items (and two cards).

Each card details the item included and a why it matches your specific interests and preferences.

This Lip product is my bonus item. (It seems like they include a smaller value bonus item if your main item isn’t a very high-value item).

Beauty DNA Subscription Box Review - June 2014 Coola

Coola Classic Sunscreen in Fresh Mango SPF 45 – Value $32

Coola Liplux Sport SPF 30 – Value $12

They definitely got my preferences right this month! Coola is my go-to sunscreen, so getting more of it is great at the beginning of summer. I love the Mango scent of this moisturizer, and the lip balm is very moisturizing too.

Verdict: I paid $25 for this box and received $44 worth of items. I’m very happy with the brand they selected for me this month, and even though it isn’t a new discovery for me, both the products are quality items and I can never get enough SPF!

What did you get from Beauty DNA this month? Do you think they are doing a good job of matching you with the right product?

    • Wow, that’s a pretty good deal if it works. I recently updated my profile to accept products like this (lash/brow growth). I’d never buy them on their own but they’re fun to try as part of a sub like this. Who knows, maybe I’ll get to try it. It kind of looks like they send out similar products to a lot of people. I’ve seen plenty who have gotten the cloud cream and also the Wen cleansing conditioner (the Wen didn’t work for me at all, but I know some people swear by it).

  1. My first box I got the Cloud cream. The second box was a (very nice!) body cream. This month I got Revitalash eyelash grower which I hope actually works!

I’ve only subscribed for three months. Those of you who got the surprise brush, have you been subscribed longer? I would like to get that brush also!

    • I did get the brush and have been subscribing for 4 or 5 months. When I signed up they were only taking a certain number of subscribers.

      • They still told me they were only taking a certain number of subscribers but I only signed up about a month ago. Have gotten one package so far (no brush, just the hair item since I asked for hair first, and a bonus since the value of the hair item was <$25).

    • I’ve been subscribed sine the 1st month. Also, fill out all of the surveys.
Read on another board the people that filled out survey’s may have received one?

      • What surveys?

    • I subscribed as soon as I read it on here (since March.) I haven’t gotten my box yet, so I don’t know if I’ll get the brush.

    • This is my 2nd month and I got the Skyn Iceland cloud cream this time. I like the way it smells (haven’t used it yet, just now opened the box to see what I got). Wow, that is one long ingredients list.

It’s probably a better winter item for me, that’s when my skin tends to be at its driest. But I just finished off a tube of moisturizer I’d been using in the evenings so I will swap this in and see how it goes.

I wasn’t too picky with the profile. There aren’t that many things I hate or am not interested in trying. And I’d never be able to justify a $65 purchase of a product like this on its own. So I’m glad I get the chance to try it.

  2. Hands down, this is one of my most favorite subscriptions. I’ve recently cancelled subscriptions in order to save more, but this one I kept because the value was worth the price, plus I love getting new products every month that I never thought to try before. I’ve gotten a body cream, face cream, WEN hair conditioner, and the one I most recently received was a body firming cream from Aveda. Something which is perfect for summer as more skin is showing and to tighten it right up. I also got the kabuki brush from IT cosmetics like other ladies have mentioned as a thank you gift, which was an amazing surprise since IT cosmetics has some really good brushes!

I also have to give big credit toward their customer service dept. Last month, my package was stolen. UPS says they delivered it, but when I got home, there was nothing waiting for me. I searched everywhere, even the near dumpsters to see if anyone right have thrown it out. But I couldn’t find anything. I emailed BDNA’s customer service and explained the situation. Within 1 day, they emailed me back saying they would replace it and where they should ship it to. I was very surprised by this! I thought I would have to wait a week, but they were really fast! So now I am getting my packages mailed to me at work plus it’s faster and a nice surprise during a tough day. Love, love, love BDNA!

  3. This is hands down my favorite sub! Last month I got a Skinceuticals A.G.E. eye cream with a retail value of $95.00 and I have been using it and love it. Today I received Perricone MD Cold Plasma Sub-D with a value of $135.00! I can’t wait to try it. I would have never bought these products on my own, they are better at picking stuff for my skin than me! Liz, I owe you one for introducing this sub to me!

    • I would love a Perricone product!

  4. Loving this subscription. I actually cancelled some other boxes because this one is enough for me. I’ve received an Aveda serum, Skyn Iceland eye cream and Wen. I avoided Wen because it just seemed overhyped and never had any desire to buy it. Well……I had to eat my words because Wen has become my new obsession and it works wonders for my hair. No way would I have bought it before Beauty DNA and now I’ve decided to switch to Wen. Also received the surprise ‘fluffy’ IT cosmetics brush and have already used it. I’ve not been disappointed once with this subscription and hope they continue being so customer friendly.

    • Everyone’s comments are making me impatient for mine to ship. Should be any day now.

      • It’s truly a surprise box and another reason why I like it. There are no spoilers with this box. Hope you like yours 🙂

  5. I received the Skyn Iceland moisturizer in my first box & loved it. This month, I received the Skyn Iceland eye cream. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m excited it have it.
Also, I received the It cosmetics brush yesterday as a “thank you” gift.
Definitely impressed with this subscription. It’s one of my faves.

  6. I have LOVED this subscription. The first month I got Avene Retinal night cream. Next month, I got Wen and something else. For May I received Revitalash Volumizing Mascara and an additional hair product, Philip B Styling Gel.

Overall, the best product I love is the styling gel. I was bummed that I ran out from a pervious sample, then I got a FULL SIZE of this gel, and was so happy.

I wish their site was more interactive but the card inside each product does say to email them to give them feedback.

  7. I got my first box last month and it was Skyn Iceland Nordic Skin Peel. I was a little disappointed at first because I’ve tried other Skyn Iceland products and didn’t love them. I decided to give it a try anyway and I’m so glad I did…this product is life changing! I was having a lot of acne (gotta love that at 31) and my skin looked dull and blah. After using these little pads once a day for only a few days I could see noticeable difference in my skin and I have actually started getting complements on how great my skin looks. I would definitely not have bought this on my own accord but they found a great product that really fits my profile. I am eagerly awaiting my next shipment! Beauty DNA is definitely becoming my favorite sub box.

  8. I’ve been loving BeautyDNA. Last month I received the Kinerase Eye Cream and this month I got a night cream valued at $145 (forgot the brand’s name). Not too shabby for a $25 investment!

  9. Loving beautydna. Been subscribed since day one. First product was a face mask, then a body lotion and hairspray(one delivery) and my last month was a face product. Sadly I am out of my mask and I’m hoping I get someone sort of like that this month.

Today I had an unexpected package from them today and it was a “just because” thank you gift. A nice kabuki brush that retails for $48, and it was totally free-not part of my monthly membership. I am hoping they can keep up their “wow” factor for a while.

    • I received the Kabuki brush a couple of weeks ago from them too! I love Beauty DNA and I think they’re my favorite sub. I’ve received a Coola fragrance free organic sunscreen (I love it!) and a Wen Hair Conditioner (meh), a intensive eye cream from Kinerase (I love it!), and a Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream (I really love it!) My next box will hopefully be shipped in the next few days here and I cannot wait!!

  10. Do they usually switch products each month? Like you get a hair product one month so the next month you won’t?

    • Yeah, they say that somewhere in all the sign-up info. I guess since they are sending full-sized products, so you have a chance to use it for awhile without a whole bunch of hair products piling up. They alternate among three categories.

      • Also you can pick which category you want shipped first.

  11. I got skyn ICELAND’s Pure Cloud Cream as my first pick in April and I love it. The only downside is I’ve only had it for almost two months and I’ve almost used it all up.

  12. I forgot to add…My sister’s package arrived earlier this month. She received Klorane shampoo with desert date along with a bonus Coola organic sunscrren spf 45 unscented. I don’t know the values. She has naturally curly hair which is usually wild. The other day I saw her with beautiful ringlets which she attributed to the shampoo. Just that shampoo and her conditioner with no additional products. Needless to say she is quite happy.

  13. I don’t think mine will ship for a few more days based on when I signed up. Looking forward to it, though. All I know for certain is it won’t be a hair product because I got that last time (my first box).

  14. My box came today. I received CellCeuticals – Extreme Defense Anti-Cell Damage Skin Treatment. Retail Price $70.00. This was matched to me mainly for redness (rosacea) and sun damage. I am excited to try this with the CellCeuticals Extremely Gentle Skin Cleanser sample that came in a SampleSociety mystery box early this month. I wasn’t able to find a review from someone with rosacea using this product, but from what I’ve been reading I feel it should be safe for me to use. I can’t wait to try this tomorrow!

  15. I wanted a new daytime moisturizer for my next pick, so I re-did my profile to narrow it down to that. I got this Pure Cloud Cream, which values at $65 and is wonderful.

    • I also received the cloud cream and am in LOVE with it!!! I thought it was going to be too oily but it’s just right! I’m excited for my box to arrive, I think around July 5th.
