New Swap Site Feature – Follow Your Favorite Swappers!

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

We have a very long list of features and fixes we are working on for the swaps section, so keep the feedback coming! That being said, I’m excited to walk you throw our latest feature! This was requested by a lot of swappers who wanted a way to keep track of swappers they’ve swapped with and will want to swap with again in the future!

Here’s how it works:

New Swap Site Feature - Follow Your Favorite Swappers!

On any swapper’s listing page on the left hand side there is now a follow button. As soon as you start following people you’ll see this heart appear next to your name on the upper right section.

New Swap Site Feature - Follow Your Favorite Swappers!

If you click the heart it will take you to your feed of recent listings by your favorite swappers:

When you are browsing swap listings you’l also see the heart next to anyone you follow.

To edit/manage all the people you follow, you can find that section here:

That’s it for now! Let me know if you have any questions/suggestions/etc!

  1. Liz: I just tried to accept a swap and this is what came up “We’re sorry, but something went wrong.

If you are the application owner check the logs for more information. ” ———– and it would not let me complete the swap —-

    • This is happening to me today. Did you ever figure out what was wrong?

      • First I thought it was because I use google chrome, then I thought it was because 1 of the items I attempted to swap for was unavailable and was swapped at the same time as my swap …. I could cancel the swap with no issues … yet accepting the swap was the issue. —- I ended up sending the swapper a few messages, and she was nice enough to remove the swapped items from her swap board, and I did the same thing and we just swapped them that way.

I have not tried to swap since then …. So right now I have no idea if “accepting a swap will work”

        • Thanks for the answer. We are going to do the same thing as you did. I think the issue is that she requested a swap ,I accepted and then she wanted another item. and started another swap with some of the same items. And hadn’t canceled the first swap. Thanks

          • Interesting ….. With me it was I requested a swap ( just 1 swap ), she then picked out the items she wanted from my swaps ( 1 swap ), I accepted the swap, and an error message came up. I tried accepting it a few times in hopes it would go through, I even deleted my cookies and restarted the computer no luck. – I’m just glad she was nice enough to accept the swap through comments and deleted the swap items I wanted and I deleted the swap items she wanted….As of now I have not tried to swap again, I’ll probably try another swap today when I get another box in.

  2. I’d like for there to be a visually distinct difference under “all swaps” between completed swaps and swaps that I’ve requested but haven’t received a response from yet. Right now both show up as being greyed out vs the bright “in progress” swaps and it confuses my eyeballs. Maybe bright for in progress, gray for completed, and yellow highlight for requested and awaiting response.

I also second the request for a way to modify the items offered in a swap during the “negotiations phase” without having to cancel and re-initiate the whole swap, as well as the ability to be able to cancel a swap after it is accepted if there is a change of mind that is mutually agreed to and understood by both sides (i.e. a “nevermind” button).

  3. I have a question regarding accepted swaps…How long do we wait to here back from someone after a swap was accepted? I had accepted a swap May 10th but have never heard back from the other swapper r/g her address or if she has shipped. I understand life gets so busy and I don’t want to not be patient. I am not trying to back out of a swap because I have agreed to it and would for sure follow thru, but I also don’t want to hold onto these items forever either. I just don’t know how long I should wait to hear from the other person. Any feedback would be helpful! Thanks!

    • Maybe try emailing them one more time and if you don’t hear back send me an email and I’ll manually cancel the swap.

      • Good Idea!

  4. I love that you keep updating and improving the swaps section! Thanks! I have a suggestion for a future update. Perhaps you can add an option to temporarily put your account/profile on hold to indicate to other swappers that you are unavailable or unlikely to respond to swaps. Currently, it looks like some swappers put info in their profile notes to facilitate that, but I know I can overlook those notes sometimes. It doesn’t necessarily have to prevent other swappers from initiating swaps, but may grey you out or show you as “out of office” so-to-speak. 🙂

  5. Just noticed the feature that tells you that you already requested to swap with someone and on what date. LOVE IT! Now I don’t have to feel like a stalker and request the same item from the same person. Thanks Liz for all you do on this site! (even though I spend WAY to much time here lol)

    • I’m so glad that you love it! 🙂 Thanks for the feedback and spending some of your time on My Subscription Addiction 🙂

      • Thank you so much for adding this feature!! It is so helpful!

      • Hi Liz, I keep googling how to join the swap/ sell site. Could you give me a direct link? I read one post that said to post on eBay then add your ebay link and add it to the post. Being new is this how most are posted and sold. In sorry I’m confused. ANY INFO would be helpful such as payment methods etc. Do you have a YouTube video or Q & A section. Thanks so much….

    • I agree! I love this new feature. Thank you!!!

  6. Wonderful! The swap site is great. I ran out of people to gift things to.

    • well said …. I’m looking a box I put gifts in for people throughout the year so I don’t have to do christmas shopping and I’m seeing stuff in that box from 4 years ago. – LOL

      • Lol! You do that too?! I thought I was the only one. My husband grumbles about me being a pack rat, but doesn’t seem to mind around Christmas time when we basically only need to by a few gifts because I already have great stuff stored away. I do find it a bit harder to do that with items for men, they are pretty picky. So usually, I’ve got all the ladies in the family covered and we just shop for the men and children.

I got the Popsugar Men’s holiday box last year, but my hubby didn’t want to gift any of it to our family because it was all “metro-sexual.” I still think my brother would have loved that felt tie…

        • I giggled when I read your post. My husband says the same thing. When he quibbles about my Julep collection of nail polish, I tell him its cheaper than a weekly manicure – LOL!

Your comment about the PopSugar box reminded me of … When ever I see a men’s box I don’t even bother getting it, because unless it is full of bacon and cars stuff my husband won’t touch it. In the vegan cuts box ( the first and last one I got ) they put a mans face mask in it, I gave it to my husband and he would not even touch it. Said he knew noone at work would use it. So I swapped it.

What I’ve ended up doing is getting a lot of neutral products nothing flowery, and he’ll use those too.

One thing I never thought the boxes would do is make me buy more stuff regular size pricey products. That is why the only thing I used in the bergdorf box was the gift card and the primer, I did not want to get addicted to pricey products.

Thank goodness for swaps page! — So much fun to get more packages a week!

  7. One thing I would like to see is a way to store shipping information, so the other person can see it as soon as the swap is accepted. That way you don’t have to enter it in the comments every time and wait for the other person to respond.

    • I agree this would be a great enhancement!

  8. Can you see who’s following you? XD

    • Ah, never mind! I see that you can. 🙂

  9. Hi again :). Can you please add a way to remove or add items to a swap after the counter has been proposed, but before the swap is accepted. Swappers will often negotiate to add or remove items and right now that requires the whole swap be canceled and resubmitted and re-countered. It would be so nice and clean to have it all in one place before the swap is accepted.

Again, thanks for all the improvements. This site is the best!

    • That’s a great idea!

    • I have often thought about how much easier that would be. Thanks for suggesting it!

  10. Yes I would love updates on new posts of my wanted items!

  11. How long is the wait list for swapping? I haven’t been on it for very long but I have a lot of stuff that I want to start swapping.

    • We open it up every 1-2 weeks. Should be soon! 🙂

      • Thanks! I’m super excited to start swapping.

      • Great to hear! I’ve been on the list a couple weeks and I’m ready! 🙂

  12. Is it possible to add the “follow” option to an item. Like we mentioned above, that would make it easier to track when a desired item has been listed by a new person. Personally, I’m more interested in finding specific items, rather than following specific swappers.

I love the site! It’s so much fun. Thanks for all your hard work, Liz!

    • I’m not sure if you’ve done this …. yet I’ve done it twice. Lets say you want an item from a swapper you’ve swapped with yet they don’t see anything they want, but you know you will get a specific box in with specific products. You can always ask them if they want something from the particular box you are getting, if so you and the swapper and place a hold on the item for them and message them as soon as the item comes in to complete the swap

    • I totally agree, I’m usually more interested in swapping for a particular item versus swapping with a particular person. Also, sometimes there are multiple items from a box I know I want, but there may be 100 people who have that item posted. It would be really awesome to have a way to input items you want and have it say swappers X, Y, and Z all have that particular combination of 2-3 items available.

  13. I love this new feature! So much easier to keep track of who I swap with most. Thanks so much for doing such a great job with the swap site!

  14. I just said something bout this to you not too long ago. Wow!!! Thanks this is pretty nice 🙂

  15. Would it be possible to set something up where in case of something you really want, you can keep track of whom you have requested for swaps already?

    • Oh that’s a great idea – thanks Emily. We’ll see what we can do!

    • I second that! I hate to be stalkery and re-request something by accident. Or/Also, a wish list would be great so we could tell if something comes back available, or if someone new posts.

      • I agree! Sometimes I’ll request swaps again, after I’ve done an update. Or accidently request the same swap I did a week ago. Because the swapper was nice enough to send a message saying please let me know when you update. After the 2nd time, I don’t even want to swap with that person again, because that swapper might find me annoying.

        • I agree with all of the above! If there is one item I want and 40 people have it listed it’s really hard for me to keep track of who I have already done a swap request with. I hate to be a pest and re-request a swap that was already rejected.

          • What I’ve done is if there are 4 of the same product I want by different swappers, I’ll put in a swap request with all 4. If I’m lucky at least 1 will accept my swap request and swap with me. I did that this week and it worked :). – Yet it still gets confusing when more of the same product are listed, and I want another 1.

      • I completely agree! Also an option for the list of swappers to be sorted by listed most recently.

    • We just did an update – when you are looking at an item you will now see if you already requested the item from a user, with a date.

Let me know if that works for your needs! 🙂

      • Thank You 🙂

  16. WOW! Liz thats great! Thank You. So many times I’ve looked at previous great swaps and see if the swapper has done an update for more swaps.

If a user changes their user name will it still appear as the same user? How would that work?

    • Good question! I’ll check and get back to you!

      • Thank You 🙂

    • Just verified – it is set up that you are technically following the user ID associated with that person’s profile, so if they change their name you will still be following them!

      • perfect! thank you for checking 🙂

      • Maybe a wish list? would be nice. Because the profile sometimes is not long enough. Sometimes I see someone who says they are only interested in certain items, yet perhaps like they ran out of space …. so I don’t swap with them because of specific requests.
