BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review - May

BoxyCharm is a full-size and deluxe-size makeup and beauty subscription box. When they first started they were featuring drugstore brands like Revlon and L’Oreal, but lately they’ve been using mid-tier and high-end brands. (If you check out my earlier BoxyCharm reviews, you can definitely see the improvement in curation!)

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review - May 2014 Packaging

And how gorgeous is the packaging? I don’t know if I should gift it or keep it!

Verdict: This month’s box has a value of about $77 – another amazing value box! I think it’s a good mix of haircare, makeup, skincare, and tools too. What do you think of the May BoxyCharm box?

  1. Spoilers for Junes box look awesome so I really Junes box!

    • Agreed! They look awesome. I’m subscribing as I type this. Oh Liz, you’ve turned us all into addicts. I’ve signed up for 5 monthly boxes and purchased several limited edition boxes since stalking your blog!

      • How is the lotion?

  2. Hi,
Has anyone had experience with boxycharms CS?
I’ve been trying to reach them for over a week now and haven’t heard anything back. I subscribed last month and got this box. On May 31st I updated my payment info and was billed that day. Which I thought was fine because I figured it was for my next box “Junes” turns out they billed me for mays box which I don’t want another of. I’m kinda concerned that they would automatically bill me for the same month esp considering I wasn’t placing a order I was merely updating my account info. I could understand being billed for mays box if I placed a order for it. But that wasn’t the case. 🙁 I haven’t heard back from them. Has anyone dealt with them before? I’m hoping they can fix this error

    • I got an email saying they billed me for the May box when I had already gotten that box. I was confused but then got another email saying it was a typo and that they meant June. That’s likely what happened in your case.

    • When you update your card info I think they automatically bill you at that point for the month. My experience is that I contacted them and asked for a refund because I didn’t want an additional box for that same month and they refunded me!

  3. I’m planning on cancelling my glossybox subscription I’m way too tired of their customer service & wondering when my box will come. I wanna get boxycharm, are there any promo codes?

  4. I am looking forward to receiving my first box, it seems to get ever improving reviews. I really hope a more navigable website is in their future. It’s currently really texty and has virtually no visual charm…and I cannot figure out how to track my shipments or see what was in past or current boxes. There is no way other than THIS site to get excited or immersed about this box.

  5. I wanted to give a big shout out to BoxyCharm. Two of my items were damaged last month, and they responded very quickly to my email promising to send replacements this month. I was skeptical only because there seem to be customer service problems at a few of the subscription companies but, sure enough, when I opened my box today they were there! Love good service.

  6. Yup I’m with you ladies. I think I’m going to cancel my glossybox for boxychsrm. Anyone know how to cancel Glossybox? I’m pretty sure I was charged for May’s box but haven’t received it yet. I want to make sure I get the may box. Can j cancel now and still get the may box?

  7. Has anyone figured out how to open the nail polish remover? I can’t for the life of me get it to open.

  8. I stopped getting Boxycharm only because my makeup inventory was getting pretty backed up, but I think that if I ever feel like I need to restock (or get new colors for fall), they’ll be my go-to. I do miss those sweet, sweet ribbons!

  9. I’m really surprised at how BoxyCharm has stepped up their game! I subscribed to this box when they first started and although I knew that they were drug store brand items, I was never impressed with anything I received. I thought they were such low quality drug store items that it wasn’t worth the $21 a month for random cosmetic items. I would have rather spent $21 to pick the items I actually would want/need/use. Therefore I cancelled my subscription. After seeing this though, it almost makes me want to reconsider…

  10. I really like trying new hand creams! – Oh no, it is another box I want to sign up for ! LOL :).

    • I think I need to sit back and figure out how many boxes I subscribe to now! I’m getting carried away.

      • I need to do that to, I really like Goodebox that I can get every other month. So far it has been one of the only boxes I’ve seen that does that. I wish more box companies would offer that option.

  11. I love beauty boxes that have this type of variety. I kept stalling trying to decide which one I want to order. BeautyDNA is pretty intriguing, but only getting one product is kind of a gamble!

  12. Wow! That looks like a great box! I might consider switching my GlossyBox subscription for this one if they keep it up.

    • I agree! May start this one instead! Glossybox has too many problems.

    • Same! I just started my Glossybox sub with the April box and was super unimpressed (I’ll be swapping nearly every item). BoxyCharm seems way more my style. Plus I’ve been nervous reading about all the Glossybox shipping and customer service issues.
