Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review – April 2014

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - April 2014 Bag

Blush Mystery Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box from Blush.com. I’ve been very impressed with this subscription in general because of the value (usually over $100), the brands (typically at least a few high-end  lines), and the size of the items (everything is usually full sized or deluxe sized).

This month they have fewer items than usual, but more full-sized, so I'm OK with it!

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - April 2014 Items

The Subscription Box: Blush Mystery Beauty Box

The Cost: $24.95 a month (or $34.95 for a one time purchase)

The Products: Over $100 of beauty products.

Ships to: US

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - April 2014 Card

Each box has a new featured curator and featured product - this month is Anthony Nguyen, Celebrity Makeup Artist.

The flip side of the card details the rest of the items included for that month.

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - April 2014 Oscar Blandi

Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray by Oscar Blandi - FULL SIZE! Value $25

Jonathan Infinite Volume Shampoo - FULL SIZE! Value $20

Even though we just received this dry shampoo from FabFitFun VIP, I know it will get used, so it's a good, but less exciting, addition to the box for me!

I'm pretty particular about my shampoo, but this Jonathan one is sulfate free, paraben free, vegan and I like the scent - so I think I'll give it a try!

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - April 2014 Polish

Love Lips Collection Duo Lip Crayon by La Bella Donna in Admire - FULL SIZE! Value $28.50

Cult Cosmetics Nail Polish in Laguna - FULL SIZE! Value $12

I lucked out on the color of this Lip Crayon duo - it's perfect! I wish the crayon part of this combo was a little more moisturizing, but that's a quick fix with lip balm!

I also wanted to try the Cult Cosmetics nail polish before signing up for the nail polish subscription box, so the polish is a win for me too - plus I love the bright coral shade!

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - April 2014 Skincare

Darphin Stimulskin Plus Divine Multi-Corrective Cream – Normal to Dry Skin - .17 oz Value $29.50

This is a super pricey skincare item, so I'm hoping this sample size is enough for me to get results!

Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review - April 2014 Samples

In addition to the standard items in the box, I also received these samples: Kevin Aucion Liquid Airbrush Foundation, Whish Hair Inhibiting Swipe, and Elizabeth Arden Untold (5 ml).

Verdict: At first I wasn't too excited about only getting 5 items this month (I'm seriously spoiled from previous boxes), but considering 4 out of the 5 are full size, and I'm going to use everything in the box - I'd say the value is actually great for me. I paid $25 for this box and received $115 worth of products - I can't complain!

What did you think of the April Blush Mystery Beauty Box?

Recieved mine today. I am always happy with this purchase. My nail color was El Matador, lip pencil was Luscious, so happy with both colors. Dry shampoos are always welcome here! As my bonus I received one Dr. Dennis Gross alpha beta peel, the wish wipe and a Prive hair texture spray, looked up the value and $30, seems like a really nice product and even my bonus was a higher value than what I paid. I considered switching to beauty DNA but honestly I enjoy getting a variety of products. Anything I wont use I gift to friends, as I do with all my many sub boxes!

I really enjoy your site! I also started my monthly box craze with Birchbox. It is like Christmas when boxes arrive, and all the new and familiar products arize!

I love this bag! I got the same items with a different color lip pencil AND a full size Kloraine dry shampoo with my two foil packets. This bag is one of the best values in my opinion. Good mix of skin care, hair and make-up too, I think.

This was my 2nd Blush beauty bag. I was really disappointed with this one. I’m 33, and I thought the lip color I got was too old for me. I’m not really into browns as far as lip colors go. My “Extras” were 2 foil packets. Yay. Sticking to Beauty DNA, Popsugar and memebox for my monthly beauty subs.

How do I cancel this one? I cannot find it on their site.

Chris

You just need to email customer support–they were really quick with mine. 🙂

I am sooo glad I cancelled–I get the Cult Black box (Bummed about them now including makeup stuff, but their polish always makes me second guess my Julep boxes, plus they just added a skip the month feature! Oh, and did I mention the nail polish comes with 3x the amount of Julep, and they are 5 free as opposed to 4 free from Julep?), and I didn’t care for Laguna and swapped it. I got the dry shampoo from FatFitFun, and the samples, so I would have had 2 of the 5 items, and I would really only use the shampoo o_O; Maybe next month will be worth trying to sign up again, but phew! That was a YES I CANCELLED bag.

Blush is still the best beauty bargain out there. Just wish their boxes were more cohesive and ‘put’ together. I switched to beautyDNA for now, dropped Blush, because its more curtailed to match your needs. However, have to admit, Bush is still the better deal.

Chris

I agree it’s a better deal, but if you don’t use half the items, I struggle with finding the value. I also switched to Beauty DNA 😉

This box seems like a great value! Do they customize at all or is it a one size fits all collection? I am a big fan of Birchbox because of their customization, but another good box wouldn’t hurt! 🙂

DaisyK

They don’t customize the way Birchbox or ipsy do with their style quizzes. However, they often have variations within the box (such a the shade of the lip crayon/pencil and polish in the April box, or a there will be two different products by the same brand that will vary ). They also haven’t ever done anything that’s complexion specific, like a powder or foundation, but there will always be the chance that a skin or hair product might not be best suited to all types. I have always had tremendous success with this box though 😀

Lana

thanks! I am mostly in the market for skincare products, and I do feel like at least some customization would be helpful. i.e. A person with oily skin may not need the same products as someone with sensitivfe dry skin, you know?

Angela

I was excited about this month from your spoiler, but getting a shampoo without its sister conditioner? Meh. Glad I decided to wait until your review came out.

I got my Blush box today with no lip crayon inside : ( That was the only thing I was looking forward to trying besides the Darphin cream. I called customer service and they said they would send one my way. So glad!

Sneaky Burrito

Let us know how the nailpolish works out. I am having a heck of a time finding a 3 free or 5 free brand that lasts longer than a day or two without chipping. But I haven’t tried Cult yet. Maybe I am just hard on my hands?

Chris

I have had a lot of luck with Zoya as well—Cult polish has lasted pretty long for me, but I have to use their base base coat, and usually opt for the Julep shiny coat which helps. As much as I love my cult polishes, Zoya is probably your best bet 🙂

Sneaky Burrito

Thanks for the suggestions. I still have a lot of Zoya left so perhaps if I try a different base coat/topcoat combination (I have a couple to choose from) I will hit upon the right items.

Mandy

Zoya lasts 7 days or longer for me.

Sneaky Burrito

I got Zoya to last 2 days with 3 coats of color plus a top coat. (It was the pink stuff from February’s Ipsy.) I’m thinking the problem is with me/my daily activities and not the polish. =(

This is my 2nd Blush box and I can’t decide to keep or go back to Glossy. I have never used a dry shampoo but full size is a score. I used the shampoo today and it’s wonderful. I got the nail polish in a bright red and will use it to get my nails done this weekend. The Darphin may go in my gift pile as I can’t use anything with a lot of fragrance. The lip pencil color is very similar to the Model one that came in the Popsugar box which is a bit neutral for me. I’m still on the fence whether to keep Blush or try another box.

Try Beauty DNA for month if you are thinking of switching–Blush is by far the best value, but the contents are hit or miss as whether you will use them 🙂 Plus, you can always order them if you like a review—they keep their boxes in stock all month and will send out as soon as you put your order in :3
