Beauty DNA Subscription Box Review - March 2014 Box

Beauty DNA is a new monthly beauty subscription service that sends you one full size beauty item each month based on your preferences. Right now they have three categories of items: skincare, hair, and body.

FYI - This is a very new service, and they are still in beta. Last time I checked there were a little less than 400 spots left for beta subscribers.

Beauty DNA Subscription Box Review - March 2014 Card

The box comes with a fold out card that details the item that was selected for you, and how it meets your criteria. I'm pretty impressed so far. My letter highlighted that this body retexturing treatment is paraben and fragrance free - just like I requested!

Beauty DNA Subscription Box Review - March 2014 Skincare

SkinCeuticals Body Retexturing Treatment - FULL SIZE! Value $60

Given that this was my first Beauty DNA box, I had no idea what to expect with the value, but I was thrilled to see a $60 item in the box! I tried this treatment out today (it's kind of a mix between a moisturizer and a gel in consistency), and so far I'm a fan. It absorbs quickly, leaves skin soft and didn't irritate my skin. It's supposed to be for dry skin areas like elbows, knees, feet, etc., so I'm going to have to use it more than a day to see results, but so far so good!

Verdict: I'm already a fan of this subscription, and now I can't wait to see what I get from Beauty DNA for April! I may play around with my survey answers a little more, but I'm happy with my product this month. For the $25 I paid, I think the value is great too.

Did you sign up for Beauty DNA? What was your full size product?

Beauty DNA is awesome. I actually squealed when I opened this month’s box and saw that I had received Meg 21 Cell Therapy. My husband was soo not impressed lol.

Anywho, I fell in love with this brand after getting Smooth Radiance in my first box. I recently bought a replacement for Smooth Radiance, and Cell Therapy was included as a sample. I’ve been lusting after it ever since; I could not be happier.

So far, I’ve loved all the products save one that BeautyDNA has sent me enough to buy again.

I went through the BeautyDNA site, and then through the questionnaire, and there was no mention of animal testing, which leads me to believe that they promote DO animal test. With all of their questions, they could put in a question for the many of us concerned with no animal testing. I know we are excited about a subscription like BeautyDNA and may have forgotten about animal testing, but it’s a pretty big deal!

You should let them know you’d like to see that as one of their survey points. They are in beta mode right now, and from what I’ve observed they are very receptive to feedback!

I got this box after reading about it here. I just received my first item which is skyn ICELAND Pure Cloud Cream with Biospheric Complex. The value stated is $68 though it is on sale at Amazon currently for $55.
Although I have tried many, many skin lines, I had not heard of this one as yet. It felt very ‘cool’ going on last night and I am looking forward to seeing how it performs.

Key words on the info card are: Anti-aging and dry skin, fair complexion, light cream, lightweight, contains almond oil and aloe vera but not chamomile or mineral oil, paraben and sulfate free. Contains citrus fragrance but not apple or botanical scent. Hope this info helps anyone who is interested in this product.

Liz, I love your blog and I love Beauty DNA. I got June Jacobs Anti-Aging Blemish Control Foaming cleanser ($48.00). I had never even heard of the brand before and I love it. They did better at picking a skin product for me than me!! I am counting down the days until my next delivery.

Finally received mine this weekend. I got an Avene cleanser for oily skin ($25) and a bonus item: Wen cleansing conditioner ($20) . I have dry skin, so I went back and checked my profile… sure enough, I accidentally clicked “Mild” for oily skin. My own fault! I do like the products and the value, and I’ve adjusted the settings so that my next product should be even better.

I’m really pleased with this subscription so far.

Sweet, I got my product today! I looked on FB yesterday and checked out pics of products they shipped on my shipping date and sure enough the one they put on the site with my name is the one i got!

I got the Clark Botanicals Intense Radiance Mask. It’s a pretty hefty portion too. Excited to try it. It has a $72 value, not too shabby.

I just ditched my glossy box sub as I’m getting inundated with small samples. So glad to have full size product for the same price. Thanks for sharing this new sub with us Liz!

I was SUPER impressed with my box and I plan to keep up with this subscription for awhile. I got Avene Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream (Value $30) and as a bonus item, I got Minardi Glisten Color Reflecting Drops (Value $24). My box came out with a total of $54, which is over twice what I paid for the box. I’m very excited to try both of these products. I love the sheets that tell you WHY you got matched with the item your box.

I received skyn iceland’s pure cloud cream. I’m enjoying it so far but not sure I will purchase it. My box value was $65 🙂 I’m looking forward to the next box!

I got mail. I received Avene Toner ($21) and 60 day keratin treatment ($39) . Good value but I’ve recently gotten a lot of keratin treatments from sub boxes.. might have to adjust my settings just a little but I think I will end up really enjoying this sub box 🙂

I just received a Duchess Marden Face Crème this morning. I like the lightweight texture and love the rose smell. Yay, gonna stay on this subscription.

After reading all of these reviews I had to jump on the bandwagon too. I cannot wait to see what they send me. I have to admit, I really love the idea of a full-sized product every month, especially for $25!

Reply ButtonReply

Crystal

Well…I received Coola Organic Body Sunscreen, a $32 value, for my full-size item and 6oz of Wen Hair Conditioner, a $12 value (full-size bottles are 16oz and retail at $32.) I think the value is good although I am pretty jealous that I didn’t receive a super high value box like other ladies did. I will use the sunscreen though, it’s the perfect time of year to get sunscreen and if I like Coola I might try their organic baby sunscreen for my daughters too. Overall, I think this might be one of my favorite subscriptions.

Maria

I jumped too! A full size product for that price is a pretty good deal and I’m interested to see what they select for me after I filled out my profile.

I subscribed and I’m already thinking about canceling. I received AHAVA time to treat facial peel which is only worth $35. I was under the mistaken impression it would be worth $40. You would think they would want to impress all their subscribers the first time out, not just a few.

While we do promise to always hit a certain price point, our top priority is matching you with the product that is best suited for your preferences. Since you will receive different types of products with each shipment, some months you may receive one full size product while others you may receive an additional “bonus” product.

If you have any individual questions or concerns, please feel free to email us directly at [email protected]

Thanks!

I got mine today and I received Avene Cleanance Toner and a bottle of Wen cleansing conditioner as a bonus item (I think it was just to boost up the value of the box because the toner retails for $21). I’m kind of disappointed, but I’m going to tweak my profile a bit and see how next month is.

I got mine today! I received two items, Wen cleaning conditioner (which I love but never buy due to the cost) and a body polish which I love. My box value is about $50 which seems low compared to others boxes so I am a touch sad but I think I will give it one more month.

Betty

Which body polish did you receive?

Megan

I received basq Citrus Sugar Body Polish, it’s full sized.

I just got mine and am also pleased with my selection. They sent Doctor Babor – Biogen Cellular Ultimate Repair Mask, a $60 value(Though it’s listed on sale for only $42 at dermstore.com). The card says it should help treat redness and dry skin. This is great considering my post-winter skin condition.

@allcapsERINN

SkinCeuticals is a FABULOUS company! I used to work closely with them when I was a PR director in the spa industry and they’re very science-based and most of their products WORK. I’m yearning for this body treatment, myself — your skin is going to look AWESOME (or even more awesome, if it already does) after using it for a while. It’s got a ton of great niacinamide and urea in it for exfoliation and new cell turnover. (Haha, I swear I’m not still doing PR for them!)

Just be sure to use sunscreen with that product because it contains grapefruit oil, which can cause a phototoxic reaction when (unprotected skin) is exposed to sunlight. (http://www.essentialoils.co.za/sun-sensitivity.htm)

Also, some of the fragrant oils in it may cause irritation, depending on your skin.

LOL — sorry. I’m such a skincare science dork. I research ingredients obsessively. 🙂

I got the Whish self-tanner! It’s a perfect for me product (I mean, I totally grinned when I saw it – it’s perfect in every way) but I can’t help but feel a little more than grumpy that I could have received 2 bottles and had the same value as everyone else got in their boxes (65-85).

I was really excited to try this new subscription box! I just received mine today & I have been matched with the Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment. It has a retail value of $40 but I still think it’s worth the $25. I will definitely be trying this tomorrow.

I just caved because it may actually reduce some of my beauty clutter. Even though I really don’t neeeeed another more beauty products, think this is good way of getting my regiment more streamlined. love this site Liz but it’s making me a lot more poorer, haha.

I was super excited that my matched product was “Skyn Iceland’s Oxygen Infusion Night Cream with Biospheric Complex” which sells for $75 for the full size. I’ve tried samples for some other Skyn Iceland products and really liked them, just couldn’t afford them. I’ve had next to zero luck with shopping on my own and searching for the perfect product. It seems like almost everything that I have bought on my own has worked against my very sensitive skin. I also find that I really have a huge dislike for most “fragrance scented” products but due to inexperience, they were the products that I mostly have ended up with. It’s a HUGE plus for me that I was able to pick what scents that I can tolerate on this survey. Also, it’s fun to hear about what everyone else is getting so thanks SO much, Liz….. not only for this site but also for your hard work!!!

I snagged a spot! Only 321 left 🙂 I’m very curious about what will be sent to me. This is a little out of my range of expertise as I normally wouldn’t spend $25 on a single item (although now that I’m getting older, certain expensive skin care items are calling my name). I’m excited to see what I receive and I’m already impressed with their customer service, having gotten an answer to my question in less than ten minutes!

Unfortunately, my first experience is awful. I received a cracked, unsealed, half empty container of Alterna Hair masque. There is even a worn sticker on the bottom that says “not for resale.” I emailed customer service to cancel my subscription. What a bummer.

BeautyDNA

Hi Janet,
This is BeautyDNA, we’re sorry to hear you had such a bad first experience with us. We received your email and are going to ship you a replacement Alterna Hair masque since yours was cracked. Just to clarify, we place “not for resale” stickers on all of our products in the BeautyDNA headquarters before they ship out, I’m sorry if the sticker was misleading. Please feel free to email us at [email protected] with any additional concerns!

I received mine yesterday and I’m very pleased. I got a face serum that retails for $85. I am pleased not only with the value, but also the customization, they seem to actually taylor the products per customer, unlike other companies whom claim to do the same, only to end up sending whatever. My product was spot on for my choices.
Another thing that’s great for me is that they ship UPS. This isn’t a big deal for most, but for me personally it’s a big plus, I have issues with my local Post Office. My mailman doesn’t seem to think it’s his job to deliver packages, if it will not fit in my box he will not bring them to the door. Most sub’s ship by way of USPS or FEDEX smart post which goes through the PO as well. For me, this means several trips to the PO a week to pick up all of my packages, so I’m always happy to when my items ship UPS or FEDEX home delivery.
So this is a sub that I am extremely ecstatic about, it hits all my happy buttons!!! Thanks for introducing me to this sub Liz!!

I got mine today too and I must say, I’m in love!! I received AHAVA active deadsea osmoter concentrate serum. I am a serum nut and I think I’ve just found the best one I’ve ever tried.. And I’ve tried A LOT! Thanks for directing me to BeautyDNA!

I got my package today in the mail with the same Ahava Dead Sea Osmoter Concentrate and I’m super excited to try it out. I looked it up and it’s for sale on Ahava’s website for $48 bucks, so that cheapened it for me a tiny tiny bit, but that was instantly made up by the fact that everywhere I’ve looked, it has amazing reviews. I can’t wait to use it!

This is also what I got and I’m completely thrilled! I can’t wait to start using it. This was such a great deal! I can’t wait to see what I get next month!
