Glossybox Review – January 2014

Glossybox Review - January 2014 Review

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. They typically send out deluxe and full size items, so I find that the sample sizes justify the monthly cost ($21 a month).

Glossybox Review - January 2014 Samples

The Subscription Box: GLOSSYBOX

The Cost: $21 a month (save more with 3-month, 6-month or annual subscription)

The Products: Deluxe and full size beauty products.

Check out all of my GlossyBox reviews and the list of the best beauty and makeup subscription boxes!

Glossybox Review - January 2014 Card

Each GlossyBox comes with a card detailing the items for the month.

Glossybox Review - January 2014 Blender

Beauty Blender Pure and Travel Cleanser - Value $20

This is my favorite item in the box even though I already have one! (I think you need to switch them out every one or two months?)

I discovered Beauty Blender through Birchbox and now I use it everyday for applying foundation or CC cream. (If you are new to Beauty Blender, you have to wet it first, then wring out most of the water before you use it).

I'm happy to see they've included a cleanser too, but I've been able to clean my beauty blender with Honest Co. hand soap, and it works fine too!

Glossybox Review - January 2014 Blush

Bella Pierre Mineral Cosmetics Mineral Blush in Desert Rose - FULL SIZE! Value $20

This is a great blush shade for me - not too rosy.

Glossybox Review - January 2014 Toni

Balance Me Super Toning Wash - 1.7 oz Value $7

Toni & Guy Sea Salt Texturizing Spray - 2.5 oz Value $5

I really like the scent of this body wash, and it's made with 99% natural ingredients!

Glossybox Review - January 2014 Vichy

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream  - .5 oz Value $9

I was happy to see that this cream is paraben free, but the scent just isn't for me. (I'm very picky with skincare scents).

Verdict: As soon as I saw the Beauty Blender was going to be in this box, I knew it would be a good value for me, but I'm happy with almost all the other samples as well! The blush and body wash are definite wins for me, and I'll give the sea salt spray a chance!

What do you think of the January GlossyBox?

I did receive my glossybox until about 2/7 and instead of the body wash I got a bcbg rollerball purfume that I believe was in a past box. Even though it took forever to get my box, I’m actually happy for the substituted item 🙂

Still waiting on my Jan box. Tracking confirmed on 2/4 it is somewhere in Indiana.

For any one who really liked anything in this box you can find almost anything in here right now on eBay for .99. I love getting the boxes and it’s how I stick up on the items I did like but if you missed this box and want anything out of it ebay is the way to go.

Just got my box a couple days ago (took way longer this month than last month!) and was a bit disappointed but I’m not giving up hope. I got the exact same box as you Liz. The beach spray was just in the Birchbox a month or two ago and the body wash was a bit small. I haven’t tried the blender but I’m excited to. I just don’t think the cleaner for the blender should have been counted as a item in the box. That should have been bundled with the blender. I also don’t get why they put in that hydrating cream when I don’t have dry skin. I wonder if it’s because they only have a handful of products and they just have to send them out to whoever they can.

I’m trying to cut down on the beauty boxes. I cancelled Birch, Julep and Ipsy and now have Saffron, Glossy, and am now trying Petit Voir and Vegan cuts. Hopefully they won’t disappoint!

This is a TEENY Beauty Blender and cleanser compared to the full-sized ones we got in either PopSugar or maybe it was Blush Beauty box.

I don’t know. I’m just not impressed. When I first subscribed about a year ago, there were always at least two full-sized items and just about everything in the box was awesome. Now it’s just one repeated yawn after another, at least for me.

If I get one more “beachy waves” texturizing spray, I’m going to scream.

It may be that I’ve been subscribing to some of these boxes for so long that things are getting repetitive. They were fun when they had more cosmetics in them because it’s always fun to play around with new colors and brands. But I’m really picky about my skin care, so moisturizers, anti-aging, anti-wrinkle stuff usually get given away or sadly tossed.

I have to break up with GlossyBox for a while. This is the third box that’s underwhelmed me. And I’ll give Blush Beauty one more month, but then they may get the boot as well.

The sole survivor is ipsy. 🙂

I just got my January Glossy box (my 2nd one from them) and I agree totally with your comment. I left Birchbox for the same reason and this is a step up from BB but at least they offered the points towards products.

First I’d like to say I had some issue with logging in and their customer service took forever to get back to me. Then I had needed some answer about their webpage and same thing I emailed, nothing, called and they close at 5PM. Not a good start. I was a subscriber to both Birchbox and Ipsy and they both had GREAT customer service.

I switched from BB because I felt like I was getting the same things hair spray and small samples, it was worth the $10 but not anything great. Last month Glossy box I actually liked. This month not so much.

Agree, the Beauty Blender is extra small, it’s not a deal. The blush is pretty but not for my olive skin tone – why have a profile and send a color I can’t use – from reading other reviews everyone got the same Desert Rose color. The Vicy cream scent is so overpowering, I put some on my hand and while it feels nice the scent is still there, I can’t use this.
I too have had it with another texture spray, why not a shampoo or hair mask? Again for my color treated hair these texture sprays only frizz me out. The body wash is nice to try but for $21 the best deal is the gorgeous box it all comes in. I think I too am thinking of breaking up with Glossy this month and moving on to another to try. Ipsy is the best value, but I found their products not age appropriate for me.

Any suggestions of another box I should try?

I’d like to update my reply – shame on me for not TRYING products before reviewing.

Yes, the beauty blender is “small” and they made it seem like we were getting a full size, but I used it this AM and it is a great product. I’ve used the pink blender before, but I like this one better.

The blush that I thought was going to be too light, actually when applied and layered looks very natural and this was a full size product so good deal!

The one product I thought I’d love was the body wash and it is not anything great. The scent is not wonderful and it left my skin dry.

I still won’t use the Vicy face cream because of the scent. I

So the box was a deal considering the blush is worth $20 so it was like a GWP. Not giving up on Glossy Box just yet : )

This is my first time with Glossybox, and if it weren’t for the quality of the stuff they sell, they’d be listed as a scam outfit.

There’s zero reason to charge someone at the beginning of the month and ship at the end. They’re using the money for free for the entire month. And now that we’re moving into February, they’ll be charging customers for the Feb box without having shipped the Jan one.

That’s just crappy customer service. It’s also this side of shady.

I’d recommend using a credit card, not a debit card; that way you could do a chargeback. Glossybox is one of those operations where one day they’ll just disappear, and people who signed up for a year will be outta luck.

I just go my box and it’s the same as yours. I was getting nervous that it would be “extra” items leftover for the month. I’m not too thrilled with the blush because it’s loose, but I really like the size of everything in this month’s box. Good job GB!

Glad I had signed up awhile ago: it’s a bummer to hear that so many people are having issues with acquiring their boxes.

On a separate note; I have the exact box you recieved and I love everything. The blush especially: it’s not too shimmery (and issue I have with mineral products) and its a great color my skin tone

I can’t wait for my glossybox after seeing the great things in yours!!

I only had a problem with my first bag and their CS was great! I like my Ipsy bags! 10$ isnt worth complaining and moaning, when i know its a coin toss.

I haven’t gotten my GlossyBox yet either, but I assumed it was because they had an overwhelming response to their Living Social coupon. I got the $220 annual GB subscription for $165 with that coupon!

I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for mine and couldn’t figure out why it hasn’t shipped yet, so I’m glad the other commentors pointed out the issue. It’s been pretty frustrating (particularly since when I go into my order, it still says I should expect to receive it by tomorrow… even though it hasn’t shipped yet.)

Plus the thought of getting odds and ends and leftovers is a major turnoff. I did notice that there doesn’t seem to be a page up for the box where you can see what the different options were (regular or shadowed out) and that makes me suspicious.

Although as long as I at least get the beauty blender, I’ll be happy. Although I am eyeing that blush with longing, and crossing my fingers for it! (The body wash would be nice but not a make or break deal and I rather hope I don’t get the sea salt spray)

I got this exact same box in my first glossybox, which I just received today (Georgia) could have done without the blush and the sea spray. If anyone is interested in swapping something for the blush (haven’t used or swatched), email me @ [email protected]
I am super excited to try out the La Prairie products, which shipped today for me.

I just hope I get my box this month. They finally responded to me saying we’ll eventually send out the boxes, in the order in which they were placed. This happened when I subbed before and they ran out of the main draw items and sent a box filled with leftovers/repeats/returns. That’s why I cancelled. And since they haven’t exactly been up front and forthcoming with the delay information (less than half of subscribers even got that email) and continue to tell those they get around to responding to that they just shipped the first box “yesterday,” (a complete load of hooey since they’ve already been delivered from coast to coast), I see history repeating itself. The last sentence of the response I got was “we’ll try to ship in the next few weeks.” That’s right, weeks. Plural. Yet my la prairie box which I ordered last Sat shipped today. It’s not a weather issue or a shipping issue, it’s a “we didn’t order sufficient stock to fulfill all orders” issue, IMO. I’m very disappointed yet clinging to a slim hope I may get the advertised box everyone else did.

I’m one of the ‘lucky’ ones still in the pack phase – I feel like I’ll never see it. I was billed on 1/6. They’re saying on Facebook that some may be pushed back into February for shipping:

I’m really happy with this box. I had thought about buying a beauty blender before but didn’t cuz of the price so when I found out it going to be included I was happy! & I actually got this sea salt spray in my December birchbox & loved it & was going to buy the full sized product, now I don’t since I have 2 :)!!!

I really wajted to use the sea salt spray but i checked the ingredients and there are 4 different kinds of parabens, which pretty much makes it unusable for me. The rest of the box is great though!

I tried the Beauty Blender at Sephora during a class, and feel like I must be the only person that prefers using a brush or my fingers. Since I use tinted moisturizers, I really don’t have a use for it. That being said, the rest of the box looks great, and I can’t wait for it to get here, and to see what the different items are!
