Andrew Zimmern Quarterly Subscription Box Review #ZIM01 First Look

I’ve been trying out lots of Quarterly boxes lately – some have been hits and others haven’t been for me,  but it’s definitely been fun! I love how many different tastemakers they have curating boxes!

One of the latest Quarterly subscriptions is from Andrew Zimmern, and I had to sign up and give it a try! (Am I the only person who thought it was Andrew Zimmerman for the longest time?)

Ok – onto the box!

Olivar Santamaria Olive Oil – Value $15

Chiquilin Smoked Paprika – Value $5

The food items in this quarter’s box are everything you need to make an amazing Paella. Unfortunately my box is missing Andrew’s Paella recipe, so I’ll have to wait until I get from Quarterly.

I love that everything is sourced from Spain!

UPDATE: Here is the link to the Paella recipe, and this box doesn’t include EVERYTHING you need, just the key ingredients. (Can you tell I’ve never made Paella before?)

Jose Andres Galcian Style Mussels – Value $18

Santo Tomas Rice – Value $10

In his video Andrew said this is the absolute best rice for Paella, and from the reviews I glanced at on Amazon, it seems like everyone agrees. I need to get this Paella recipe!

Verdict: I paid $50 for this box and received nearly $75 worth of items. I’m thoroughly impressed with this box – it’s exactly what I would expect from Andrew Zimmern! I love that all the food included is authentic and top-quality (plus all the brands are new to me which is always a win in subscription boxes!) And nothing is too bizarre for me to try!

What do you think of the first box from Andrew Zimmern?

  1. I always thought everyone was spelling his name wrong until I saw an ad for the food and wine festival!!!

  2. My box was also missing the paella recipe! Thank you for posting a link.

    • Someone else’s on Instagram also didn’t have the recipe – I’m guessing they forgot to put it in all the boxes!

  3. What a relief to see this box was not filled with roasted insects and animal innards like I had instantly thought when I heard he was curating a box!

    • Haha – I was a little worried about the same thing. Hopefully the boxes keep this level of bizarreness! 🙂

  4. I ordered this box for my fiancé for Christmas and have been waiting anxiously for it to arrive! I’m glad you got your’s first and reviewed it, I couldn’t hold out any longer without knowing what was going to be inside.

    • Yay! I hope your fiance loves it!

  5. I love the signed book! I think that really adds to the value of the box in a way that can’t be quantified monetarily. Great review, I didn’t even know he had a box!

    • Thanks! And I agree about the signed book – I love touches like that in subscription boxes! 🙂

  6. Liz, I debated over this box for a while. It was between the Nina Garcia box and AZ and Nina won out! I do like what is in the box and I hope I can subscribe a time or two to try out his box! It looks awesome! I would love that recipe and if you want to share you have my email!!!! : ). Would really love it! Again I say thank you over and over again for your awesome reviews. I think it helps me to gauge somewhat whether I would like a certain box or not and I also enjoy reading! When I am on vacation I really miss your Blog! Have a blessed new year!

    • Aw thanks so much! Both are great boxes, so fortunately I think you couldn’t lose between Nina and AZ! 🙂 As soon as I get the recipe I will send it to you, and if I can post it in the review I’ll do that too!

      • saw the recipe and wanted to add this-I don’t think you need the 12 count shrimp for paella. That is “colossal” size usually used for grilling/shrimp cocktail. I think you can use smaller shrimp and be ok unless you have $$$ to burn (wild colossal size shrimp usually run $15-20 and up a lb try Trader Joe’s/Costco).
Almost all shrimp is frozen so don’t pay more for “fresh” since it was probably previously frozen. Also paella is very malleable dish, feel free to substitute other fish/shellfish or even chicken. Good luck and happy cooking!!!

        • Thanks for the tips – I may try it with chicken first!
