Ipsy August 2013 Review - Makeup Subscription

I feel like the August 2013 Ipsy bag took forever to get to me - my shipment tracking email came on the 9th and this package didn't show up until the 20th!

Ipsy August 2013 Review - Makeup Subscription

The Box: Glam Bag by Ipsy

The Cost: $10 a month (free shipping)

The Products: Full size and samples of makeup and beauty products.

Check out all of my Ipsy reviews and the Beauty Subscription Box Directory!

Ipsy August 2013 Review - Makeup Subscription

Unlike other beauty subscription cards that detail the products included in your box, the Ipsy card highlights all of the brands they worked with that month. (There are variations of bags you can receive every month).

For me the card is usually a tease letting me know what other products I missed out on, but I'm really happy with the products I got this month!

Ipsy August 2013 Review - Makeup Subscription

Michael Todd Pure Organics Pumpkin Nutrient Rich Facial Mask - 1 oz Value $10

Lime Crime Nail Polish in Crema De Limon - FULL SIZE! Value $8

The Michael Todd brand is new to me - but I'm already excited to try this mask! The ingredient list looks very natural, and it's vegan and gluten free!

This Lime Crime polish was the bonus item I received for referring two people to Ipsy in the past month. I love the frosted glass look of the bottle - even though it makes it difficult to see what the color will be like!

Ipsy August 2013 Review - Makeup Subscription

Noya Cherry Lip Balm - FULL SIZE! Value $4

Pixi Lash Booster Mascara - .105 oz Value $8

This lip balm is made with organic ingredients and has a natural cherry scent - I love it!

Ipsy August 2013 Review - Makeup Subscription

Pacifica Natural Skincare Alight Multi Mineral BB Cream  - .34 oz Value $5.40

Mica Beauty Eye Shadow Shimmer Powder in Bronze - FULL SIZE!  Value $14.95

I sampled this BB Cream before in a Total Beauty Collection box, and I really like it. Supergoop CC Cream is still my daily pick, but I'll keep this as a backup if I ever run out!

Verdict: I paid $10 for this bag and received about $50 worth of beauty and makeup products - this was a great month of Ipsy for me! I'll use everything and I love that all the products were either full-size or deluxe-size. I even like the makeup bag! What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month?

I seriously love ipsy. I highly doubt you’d regret subscribing. It’s amazing. I got the Urban Decay mini lipstick in “Anarchy” it’s soooo cute and mini. It isn’t a color i’d go for but love how pigmented it is and i can sheer it out!

I loved this bag. The scrub and chap stick were my favorite. I really liked the actual bag itself too. I’m hoping Ipsy will open subscriptions soon, I’d like to buy some one a gift subscription that I promised last month.

I got the Pacifica bb cream, an NYX cream blush in “Bronze”, the lip balm in Vanilla (tastes and smells like vanilla ice cream), Michael Todd Charcoal Scrub, and the Pixi mascara. My bag took forever to get to me as well and I ended up cancelling. The pink shipping package wasn’t even sealed (the glue didn’t come loose, it was like it wasn’t even closed because when I closed it all the way, I had to pry it open) so I’m surprised the bag didn’t fall out during transit.

I love reading your reviews! I have now signed up because of you to birchbox…which so far I have been very happy with! Glossybox which I love! Julep which I was sure I wouldn’t like that much because nail polish isn’t my favorite but I love that one too and haven’t skipped a month! I also find I paint my nails more now than I ever did! I have been on the waitlist for about 2 weeks to ipsy and I keep going back and forth on if I should really subscribe or just cancel being on the waitlist…and after reading this I’ll of course wait to be able to subscribe! thanks! 🙂

This is my first month with ipsy, and I’m pretty disgruntled. I got an alert saying that my bag had been delivered, but I never got it. When I checked the site, it said it had been delivered to an address at North Street, not N. Bolivar where I actually live. I’ve actually had this happen before, but I don’t know why my address got updated in my ipsy profile because I am meticulous about making sure my address is correct. I have emailed ipsy numerous times over the last week and have yet to receive a reply. In addition, when I try to update my shipping address on ipsy it makes me re-enter my card number and it tells me it is invalid every single time, even though I entered it correct a dozen times in a row. And there is nothing wrong with the card, I use it every day online and in stores. Not sure what steps to take next, other than just cancelling.

I got my first Birchbox last month and switched to Ipsy this month to see which I liked better. I think Ipsy is the winner; I like their products a lot better and I feel like I’ll get more use out of them.

I got the mascara, a cherry lip balm, that BB cream (which is really not for me), a brow pencil, and the charcoal scrub. The only disappointment was the BB cream and I won’t use the brow pencil very often but I only liked one or two products out of my first Birchbox (and I actually disliked two of the products).

Ipsy wins for me I think!

I look forward to the Ipsy bag each month. It’s my favorite subscription “box” now! I wish I had gotten nail polish instead of the eyebrow liner however I still love the bag.

I recieved my ipsy in the mail last Friday. When I opened the pink envelope there was nothing in it! I contacted Ipsy immeditely telling them about my missing stuff. They replied that they would send out a repacement bag but can’t guarentee the products will be the same that I would have gotten with my first bag. Okay, I know it’s only a 10 dollar subscription, but I’m going to be pretty upset if I don’t recieve anything I like. Plus they just shipped it today, which mean I’ll probably get it in another two weeks. So frusterating! =(

I had a similar problem. Except the USPS is investigating our mail carrier. Every month my ipsy envelope is “damaged” and rewrapped, and there are always items missing. This month, I didn’t even get my envelope. It’s marked delivered, but it wasn’t in my mailbox. They think she may be taking them, bc another woman in my building has had the same issues.

Waiting on my replacement bag as well!!

Mine shipped same day and STILL isn’t here! I live in NY! It should be here! My bag should be the same as yours with no yellow nail polish for referrals-and the chella brow liner instead of the mica-If it doesn’t come tomorrow I will be so contacting IPSY!

still waiting to get mine – apparently it was “mis-shipped”? whatever that means…

I have no idea what happened but mine sat in Kentucky for over a week before getting to me. The shipping this month was really strange it seems.

My bag (which had the exact same timing as your’s Liz):
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy
Pixi Beauty Lash Booster Mascara in Blackest Black
MicaBeauty Eyeshadow in Bronze
Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub
Pacifica Alight Mutli-Mineral BB Cream

I’m not a lipstick fan, and definitely not one so bright. But it’s a beautiful color for someone who likes bright lipsticks. I’m not impressed with the mascara, at all. It does nothing for my lashes, but I’m a mascara junkie, so I was glad to try it. I used the scrub today and it really is gentle. Not sure if I saw results from it, but the sample size is very generous and the brand is new to me, as well. I have so many mineral shadows and blushes and bronzers, that I don’t know when I’ll wear them all. Lastly, though, I LOVE the BB cream. I am fair-skinned and usually shade matching makeup doesn’t work for me, but this one is great and smells lovely. So while, my overall review doesn’t sound positive, I still love Ipsy. For the price, I always get a good sampling of products and that’s the whole point: to get me to try new things.

I really disliked the BB cream on me, would you be interested in swapping for the lipstick? It’s totally okay if you aren’t though!

I’m still wait-listed! Been waiting forever. 🙁

Would have loved the Michael Todd Charcoal or Pumpkin mask.

Lexi

That’s really bizarre, I was on the list maybe a couple of days. Not even a full week. Maybe email customer service? Or perhaps they had a big influx of people who signed up.

Wendy (the Local Cook)

I’m still on the waitlist too. We can drool virtually together!

I was on the waitlist for about 6 or 7 weeks. I wasn’t notified about being off the waitlist til the last day of July and then was billed on August 1st.

I LOVED this months bag!! I’m obsessed with the lip balm, my lips are so so soft and last so long. I got the charcoal mask and my f ace is so soft, I’ve been using it every night. The BB cream is nice, I haven’t used it much. The mascara and the brow liner I don’t really care for.

This is one subscription I wish was twice a month !

I’m actually thinking of canceling Birchbox to get an additional Ipsy. My idea was to make a complete opposite profile so, I could get a better variety of items without receiving duplicates. 😉

I received:

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy
Pixi Beauty Lash Booster Mascara in Blackest Black
MicaBeauty Eyeshadow in Bronze
Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub
Chella Dazzling Dark Brown Eyebrow Color Pencil

I’m loving everything but the mascara, but the UD lipstick is my favorite! It’s so bright and bold!

I reviewed everything here: http://cupcakesandcardigans.com/2013/08/17/august-2013-ispy-glam-bag-review/

I got the Mica eyeshadow, Michael Todd pumpkin mask, Pixie mascara, Smashbox primer and the UD lipstick in 69. I was not too excited about the lipstick because I don’t wear red lipstick. I thought about trading it or giving it away, but the packaging was so cute, I couldn’t resist. I had to try it. OMG, I loved it. I have tried many reds over the years and hated them. But this was gorgeous, smooth, lasted for hours, didn’t smear, it was perfect. I’m trying to figure out how I lived all these years without the primer. It is amazing. I am so glad I signed up for Ipsy (thank you for all of your reviews).

Hey Melody, would you like to trade anything for the lipstick? I LOVE reds.

I liked my bag this month, but I have SOOO many chapsticks. The pacifica cream is the best and I love it. I got a full size at a local sprouts.
I really wanted to get the UD lipstick but alas I didn’t 🙁 if anyone wants to trade I have some things I have a million of like so many of you ie; smashbox primer, mascara, etc…
