Fancy Food Box Review - August 2013

I love it when I open a subscription box and the first items I see already look amazing! (Coconut chips and a french press coffee maker!) The Fancy Food box is one of the original fancy subscription boxes - every month they send you gourmet and artisan food items, and occasionally a kitchen tool or accessory!

Fancy Food Box Review - August 2013

Each box comes with cards detailing the items that were selected that month, plus a few recipe cards. This month's recipes: Roasted Coconut Brussels Sprouts, and Coconut Chocolate Chunk Cookies!

Fancy Food Box Review - August 2013

Dang Coconut Chips - Value $6

UBONS BBQ Bloody Mary Mix - Value $10

I love these coconut chips from Dang! They are great for a yogurt topping or just straight out of the bag! I'm also not much of a bloody mary drinker - but I definitely want to at least try this BBQ blend!

Bodum Brazil French Press - Value $20

This is one of those items I've always wanted to try, but for some reason just never bought. The only way i was going to own a french press was if it showed up in a subscription box! I love that it's dishwasher safe, and a nice and simple alternative to days when I don't want a keurig cup of coffee!

Papabubble for Fancy Candies - Value $15?

Umami Dust - Value $10

These Pappabubble candies are actually custom Fancy candies - they have the fancy logo and the word fancy on them!

This Umami Dust is new to me, but from what I'm reading it works in just about any recipe. And it doesn't have any added salt. Here are the ingredients: Tomato powder, garlic, lemon peels, anchovy powder, spices natural lemon flavor, balsamic vinegar, porcini mushroom powder.

It sounds like some sort of miracle seasoning - I'm excited to try it!

J&M Original Cheese Straws - Value $7

J&M Original Lemon Cookie Straws - Value $4

My boyfriend had high hopes for these cheese straws - but he said they were just OK. Oh well!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $70 - definitely one of the highest value Fancy Food boxes I've received - I'm thrilled! We paid $39 plus shipping for this box, so I definitely feel like we got a great value this month. I'm most excited about trying out the french press and the Umami dust! Do you subscribe to the Fancy Food Box? What's your favorite item from the August box?

I used to have a French press and used it for loose leaf tea. It was very handy, and easy to use.

Though I’ve cancelled my original (early subscriber!) Fancy box due to it becoming super lame, the Food box hasn’t failed me yet!
I needed a new French Press, mine was slightly tattered, and hello! One arrived! I only drink French Press so color me happy.

I sampled all the items and liked them all. I don’t drink so was at first bummed by the bloody mary mix. Then I tasted it and decided I could easily use it as a marinade, as I’m trying tonight on chicken, or I’ll substitute it for other ingredients I use when making burgers- another win.
The Umami dust has a great flavor that compliments the bloody mary mix, so I’ll be serving some boiled red potatoes with butter just so you can taste the Umami.
Very happy with this box!
