Bourbon and Boots Subscription Box Review - July 2013

A few weeks ago, My Subscription Addiction reader Brittany alerted me to a new subscription box from Bourbon and Boots - and of course I had to try it!

Bourbon and Boots Subscription Box Review - July 2013

The Box: Bourbon & Boots Box

The Cost: $42 a month

The Products:  These boxes will be filled with only the things hand-selected by the Bourbon & Boots staff.

Woody's Mild Bar-B-Q Sauce - Value $8

McClard's Bar-B-Q Sauce - Value $7

TIP'S Dry Barbecue Sauce - Value $6? (I couldn't find this anywhere online).

While I would have liked to see a little more variety of items in this box, I'm sure if these are the BBQ sauces Bourbon and Boots selected for the box, they must be amazing. We're excited to try all of them! (Apparently, the dry sauce isn't sweet and syrupy like a typical BBQ sauce).

Never Trust a Big Butt and a Smile Pork Print - Value $20

Sadly, this item arrived a little bent (maybe i can flatten it out). I'm not sure if this print is for me, but I definitely like some of the other prints from the Drywell shop!

Verdict: I signed up for the 3-month subscription and used the 5% off coupon, so I paid $39.27 for this box. The total value of this box is about $41 (not sure if I got the price right now the TIP'S dry BBQ sauce). I would love to see a little higher value from this box in the next two months of my subscription. Oh, and I hope they start to include a card on why they selected each item for the box! Did you get the first Bourbon and Boots box? What did you think?

UPDATE: Looks like I missed this email, but it sounds like Bourbon and Boots will be sending out an additional item or two for the July box. Here's a screen shot of the email I received on August 2nd (Subject line: July Bourbon & Boots Box Update):

I'll let you know when I find out more!

UPDATE 2: The July Box addition arrived on August 22nd:

Bourbon and Boots

The additional item for the July Box was this set of 2 Napkins from Oh Little Rabbit (Value $10). These are printed on organic cotton, and really well made. Here's a better look:

I'm really happy with this extra item for the July box. Now I just want the August box to show up soon!

McClard’s BBQ is in Hot Springs, Arkansas (very close to where I live), and it is former President Bill Clinton’s favorite BBQ place. That most likely explains why it is in the box because although it is good, it is not my favorite local BBQ joint. It is pretty famous around this area though. Just thought I would share.

Did you get an email thanking you for your subscription, and then saying that you should expect another box in the mail for this month? I got the email about a week ago and still haven’t received anything…just wondering if I’m the only one!!

Dagnabit, I didn’t get this email :/ Was it just for folks that subscribed to multi-month subs, or to everyone who signed up for the first month, no matter how long their sub was for??

Brittany

I wished maybe there was only one (or even two) sauces, and they mixed it up a lil more with different products. However, did you get the email saying thanks for going out on a limb and purchasing the first bourbon&boots box and that more for the box will be on the way? i thought that was cool of them. i only bought a month subscription for this first one and I think i’ll wait til the fall to order again (on their site they have a rough description of the seasons/what types of stuff will be in the box)

I found prices for the sauces to be closer to $15 each (and I couldn’t find anything on the Tips dry marinade (which is good on steaks, BTW). I liked the burlap touch, I thought it was cute with the theme 🙂 I really wish the text on the print read, “I like big butts and I cannot lie.” We cooked a brisket using Tips, then saucing it half and half with the two liquid sauces. The cost per value was lower than I would have hoped from B&B’s other inventory, but that’s just a matter of perception. I only signed up for one box, and I’m not sure if I’ll brave another one.
