Walmart Beauty Box Spring 2021 Review

When you sign up you will answer a series of questions such as your ethnicity, hair color, skin concerns, and a few other preferences. The answers are used to provide a more personalized experience so that they can tailor your box to you.

The Walmart box has undergone some changes in the past year or so, and with the slight price increase, they also started including a pamphlet featuring all of the items that could be included in your box with a blurb about each item, price details for full size versions, and photos. The pamphlet states you will receive 6 products, but interestingly enough, one of the samples we received was not included in this literature. The back of the pamphlet even mentions that the Spring 2021 box is titled "Mindful Beauty Box" and will contain a limited edition assortment of products made with ingredients you can feel good about... interesting!

Tanologist Face + Body Drops

Because I dislike foil samples, I wanted to check this out first. We received a 0.7 mL packet of self-tan drops in the color medium. The directions say this product is designed to be mixed with your skincare, makeup or body care, and the more drops you add, the darker your tan becomes. They state these drops will not block you pores, aren't drying, and will not transfer onto sheets or clothes. First things first, I could not find the full size in-store. I did find it being sold by third party sellers on Walmart's website, but at heavily inflated prices, so I did not include the link. Secondly, I found it extremely hard to gauge a "drop" when it is oozing out of a foil packet. I generally don't use self-tanner, so this isn't really my cup of tea, but I did find mixed with my nightly moisturizer, this did give a subtle glow without turning my face orange. What did you think of this product?

Dashing Diva Ultra Shine Gel Palette - Full Size! Retail Value $6.97

Now we are talking!! Hello cheetah print and glitter....come to mama! The next item I received was this package of gel nail strips. I have a little experience with strips like these, but not this particular brand. I found these to be easy to apply, but lacking instruction. From the illustrations, I gathered I needed to prep my nails, apply, and file....I found the file ripped a couple too short, so I opted to clip them off with a nail clipper instead, then I filed them. All of them stuck surprisingly well, except one, which I replaced. After applying, I did dishes and took a shower with no peeling, so I am interested to see how close to the 14 day window these stickers last.

Because I hate waiting for fingernail polish to dry, these strips are a great alternative, plus I can't resist the cheetah pattern. If these seriously last 14 days, sign me up for a recurring order!

Hello Antiplaque + Whitening Toothpaste - Estimated Value $0.85 (Buy a 4.7 oz container for $3.97)

Not the most exciting item, but a useful one was this Hello antiplaque + whitening natural peppermint toothpaste. I have used Hello toothpaste in the past and find that it doesn't lather up in my mouth like other brands do. I enjoyed the peppermint flavor and am all for a whiter smile, but I can't say this is enough to sway me from my current brand. I am happy to have a nice travel sized toothpaste to tote around in my cosmetic case when we are finally able to travel again!

Hello Charcoal Infused Toothbrush - Full Size - Retail Value $3.99 (available here for $2.00)

To pair with our toothpaste, we also received a charcoal infused toothbrush. Featuring soft, black bristles, and a BPA-free handle, I found this toothbrush to be comfortable to use, and easy on my sensitive gums. I felt the handle was easy to hang onto and left my teeth feeling bright and clean, and it looks pretty darn sleek in my toothbrush holder if I do say so myself!

Bliss Drench & Quench Hydrating Cream - Estimated Value $5.87 (Buy a 1.7 oz. container for $19.96)

I love Bliss products, and this hydrating cream is a winner in my book. This particular cream suggests applying in the morning or at night, but I find it light enough to put on before applying my make-up. With the light blue color and light, fresh scent, it applies gently to my skin. I found my skin becoming extra soft with multiple uses, and it didn't cause any breakouts. As of right now I don't have a particular go-to moisturizer (I have an assortment of beauty box varieties I am trying to use up) but think I would definitely purchase this in the future to add to my morning routine.

Wild Primrose by Scunci Hair Accessories - Full Size! -Retail Value $4.97

I am an accessory addict, so seeing this golden mustard, giant scrunchie in the box had me a little more excited than I would like to admit. While I tend to gravitate towards headbands, there is room in my life for big, flowy scrunchies and this one fits the bill. Giving off a 90s vibe, this baby matches a ton of my fall clothes, and added just the right amount of color to my hairdo.

This scrunchie is so large, that it actually fit around my messy up-do, adding just the right amount of flare to my school day outfit.

Verdict: I have to say, the Spring Walmart Box was not exactly what I was expecting. With the recent price hike, I wasn't quite sure what we would receive, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. While the toothbrush and toothpaste weren't the most exciting things to get, they both proved to be useful, and travel friendly for when the time finally comes. Being that three out of our six items were full sized was a pretty big deal, and I loved the nail strips, scrunchie, and Bliss cream. The only item I didn't love was the foil packet, but honestly, that was just a bonus with all of the other goodies. What did you think of this box?

The total value of this quarter's box came out to be about $22.65, without the Tanologist drops, which is more than 3 times the cost of the box! I have to say, if they keep up with curations like this, I will be thoroughly impressed.

I subscribed to Walmarts Beauty Box Subscription for a few months when it was $5 a box. It was far from impressive but a fun surprise for only $5. When they randomly upped the price to $7.60 I canceled my subscription because even though it was just a couple bucks, it wasn’t worth it and I never got anything great in the boxes. Fast forward 9 months, I randomly got charged $7.60 for the Winter 2021 box after not receiving the Summer or Fall 2021 boxes after canceling in February 2021 with the Spring 2021 box. I contacted Walmart and after dealing with a few representatives who knew nothing about the subscription, I was sent to “Cara” who actually knew about the subscription but refused to refund me for the product I was charged for without authorization. She arrogantly insisted that was the only one that was able to speak to me about my issue and refused to refund me and it took several attempts with her to even get in writing that yes my account was once again canceled and that my credit card was removed from the account (because clearly canceling it last time did nothing). Cara showed complete lack of basic understanding and customer service, but what else do you expect when dealing with Walmart employees?

Did anyone else get an odd email yesterday from Walmart Beauty Box? The subject line read
“OOPS Re: Engage Vacation Home Renters” and it said..

Hi Walmart Beauty Box Subscriber,

This morning an email was mistakenly sent to your inbox. We’re sorry about the confusion! Look out for more exciting beauty box updates soon.

Best,

Walmart Beauty Box Team

I never got an earlier email from them by mistake, so I’m just confused by this!

Anyone else?

Got the same email but never received a prior email either. Probably a glitch in the system

So I signed up shortly after reading this review & just got the Spring box. Much quicker shipping than other seasonal subs (*cough*causebox). My box was okay..got the teal color Dashing Diva which I was hoping for, 5 pack scrunchies in neutral colors, a Hello toothpaste – was hoping for the toothbrush too but didn’t get that. Also the Olay & Hard Candy..I have wanted to try this primer so I’m glad I got it, but those two samples are teeeeeny tiny.

Jennifer

I got the witch hazel toner with lavender, which unfortunately I can’t use because of the lavender, but I can regift it.

While I didn’t get a scrunchie (was kinda hoping for an oversized one) I did receive two gorgeous hair clips that I really like. They are colored thread that looks like fabric from a distance, coupled with a line of sparkly crystal chain. Probably more age appropriate as well.

The nail stickers are also cool. The tanning drops I probably won’t use, though the foil packet made more sense once I read the instructions – you are supposed to mix the drops with a lotion to apply.

I got the charcoal Hello toothpaste (though no brush) and a charcoal face mask, too.

It seems like an upgrade to past boxes (even if the toner didn’t work for me) and I like the inclusion of accessories like the hair item and nail stickers.

Thank you for the great review on this box. I have to say I was confused at first by the little pamphlet included in the box because I started to think I was missing some items. I thought for sure if they were going to give us a toothpaste that they would include the matching hello toothbrush so that’s another reason I thought I was missing an item. But I received the witch hazel organic toner, two scunci animal print clips, The hello whitening toothpaste, A very very teeny Olay Regenerist sample, The dashing diva animal print gel nail strips and Lastly the tanologist foil sample. Overall a nice little box. 😊

Just curious but on the nail strips I can’t find a 20 pack as a full size anywhere. The ones I see online at Walmart are 32 nail strips or larger. But I guess it’s better that we get more for $6.97 but I don’t think what they’ve sent us is full size.

Reply ButtonReply

Yolanda

I noticed that too. The ones allure sent last year were also 20. I went to the Dashing Diva website and they’re 8$ for 32 and 7$ for 27 solid colors. You can still get 2 uses out of the 20 and that alone is worth the price of the box. 😊.

Reply ButtonReply

Katie

True. I haven’t tried them yet but I do like others I’ve tried in the past. Thank you for the information.

Yolanda

Ooooooooo I would have loved to have received your scrunchie! I love that color. I’m really happy about this box! It feels like a really nice surprise for 7$ 😍🥰. I received the same foil packet, dashing diva nail stickers, set of 5 black n silver scrunchies, hello charcoal toothpaste, charcoal peel off mask and witch hazel toner. I wasn’t expecting it so receiving it and seeing the nail stickers lol yes, I was excited 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰!!!!

Tonka

This looks great, and I was surprised at the low cost!

Reply ButtonReply

Milena

This box looks awesome! I love Hello toothpaste! I use the charcoal ones & find that for me they lather as much as any other toothpaste (may be because I use an electric toothbrush?) & leave a very fresh feeling in my mouth.

Reply ButtonReply

JoJoB

I couldn’t believe how awesome this box was! I got a 5 pack of scrunchies, the toothpaste (in charcoal instead of whitening), the toothbrush, the Dashing Diva in a pretty mint colorway, a bottle of witch hazel & Rose toner, and the tan drops sample. Honestly this box was more exciting to me than most of my “premium “ boxes lately. I was able to give the toothpaste and toothbrush to my husband since he’s been wanting to try charcoal toothpaste and I will use everything else (aside from the tan drops).

BTW, I can also attest to the awesomeness of Dashing Diva. I have tried tons of nail strips and this brand is my favorite. I order from the website pretty frequently so it was so cool to get a full set in this box. They have amazing staying power.

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I received the same box as JoJoB. 5 pack of scrunchies & a teal colored nail gel pack, witch Hazel, Hello toothpaste & toothbrush with charcoal & the tanning stuff. I live my Walmart box. I always forget about it & then it comes & is probably my favorite box. It’s super cheap & always love all of the items!

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

Thanks so much for sharing JoJoB! I’m glad you enjoyed the box so much- and I too was really excited with this months curation! I’m glad to know Dashing Diva is a trusted brand – I have to check out their website to see what other colors and patterns they offer. I have gotten so many compliments on my nails that I don’t think I could go back to a set of plain colored nails!! Thanks again for commenting! 💕

Nice for $7!

If I sign up now, will I receive this quarters box or the next one?

Reply ButtonReply

Gillian Labe

I signed up again after this review and they are sending the Spring box.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

I’m not 100% sure Sarah, I reached out to customer service to ask…will keep you posted when I get a response!

Reply ButtonReply

Chelsea

You are wayyyy better than me at putting on peel and stick nail colors lol. I don’t know why, but I am just plain awful at it!

Great review 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

I’m not sure what I am doing wrong with stick on polish. Videos make it look so easy but it never files off smoothly, always tears.

Reply ButtonReply

MrsLittle

I was just coming here to say the same thing! I tried them last night and it was a disaster! And the ones with gold lines were so long…I had to try cutting them from the back end just to be short enough for the line to be on my nail.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

Thank you so much for the compliments Chelsea! I really appreciate it 😊 I have to admit, putting those stickers on took me quite a while….I probably could have painted them twice, but they sure have held up well!

Reply ButtonReply

Snow

Becca, your nail shots are very lovely. The faux fur is a nice touch!

The big mustard scrunchie looks great in your hair, but a slightly odd inclusion, no?

For $7, why not? Thanks for the review!

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

Thanks for commenting Snow! My faux fur is actually a gigantic pouf my kids bought me for my birthday last year. It fits both of my kids and I on it for story time – and makes a great backdrop for photos! 🤣

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

I received the same nail product, the toothpaste, the tan drop packet, a 3.3oz. Humphrey’s organic witch hazel an Olay ultra rich Regenerist .18 oz. and a cute 2pak of Scunci jaw clips in a tortoise shell color. Nice addition to today’s mail for $7.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

Thanks for commenting Dawn! Those jaw clips sound adorable – I am all about the hair accessories!

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy S

I received the exact same items. Happy to try the toner and nail product. I wear the jaw clips almost everyday around the house. Use the toothpaste to clean my mouth guard. Great box for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

I’m wondering if they have several scrunchie brands, as the number/style seems to vary a lot. One lady on Reddit got a pack of three.

I haven’t got my box yet, but I’m excited for it (minus the tanning drop sample, lol.)

Does anyone know if one can use nail polish over the stickers? Depending on what colors I get I want to try doing nail art on the solid ones, like add leaopard spots, but I’m not sure if you can.

Reply ButtonReply

jean

no you cant paint over the stickers maybe you can paint first then use a transparent patterned nail sticker

Reply ButtonReply

SubBoxSarah

Maybe do the nail art first, then put the sticker over it? That might not show up very well tho…just a thought!

They must have several scrunchie variations, I got a 5 pack! I really like them, 4 are velvety and 1 metallic gold

Reply ButtonReply

LunaLee

I got the same amount of scrunchies, and was surprised they sent so many. This was a great box!

Marion

I’ve even seen a variation with claw clips instead of scrunchies (hoping for that one tbh because I use claw clips every day to keep my hair out of the way at work).

Reply ButtonReply

jen

I’m sorry if I missed it, but was this classic or trendy?

Reply ButtonReply

Sara N Martin

Just got mine yesterday. I agree with you on the tanning drops. I got the Olay instead of the Bliss. I love both products. I got hair clips and would have preferred a scünci. Happy about the toothpaste and the nail stickers. I also got toner which is cool. I’ve gotten that brush before and I absolutely loved it.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

Thanks for commenting Sara! I’m glad you enjoyed your box! ❤❤

Reply ButtonReply

Alison M

My box wad different than yours but I liked it. I had the tan drops which I don’t care about, but liked the rest. I also got toner, animal print hair clips, oil of olay moisturizer (small sample), toothpaste and dashing diva nails in the same print. I actually love dashing diva. I got a sample in the allure box last year and they stay on better than any other nail strip I have tried. I bought several sets.

Reply ButtonReply

MrsLittle

You and I got the same box. I like it!

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

I’m glad you liked your box Alison. Those animal print hair clips sound adorable. Those dashing diva strips are pretty awesome- I am on day 10 and they still look perfect. My students love the leopard print!

Reply ButtonReply

Boxy Fox

Honestly I love the box I got even more than yours.
While I was disappointed to get toothpaste with charcoal in it, the other items I got were amazing.
I received a blue set of nail stickers, a pack of 5? Scrunchies, a big bottle of toner and the toothbrush. I’m super stoked!

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

Your box sounds awesome Boxy Fox – I would have loved a big bottle of toner!

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

Sounds like you and I got the same box. I loved it as well! I was astonished at the value; I’ll use every single item. Best Walmart box yet.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

I agree Heather! If this is the new norm for an extra $1.98 – I’ll be one happy camper!

Jeanie

Would have loved the over sized scrunchie, I got 5 regular size scrunchies. I also didn’t get the bliss. I got another lotion. I’m not at home and can’t remember the name. I also got a hair mask instead of the tanning lotion. The hair mask is nice, it is a hair strengthening mask. So I did like my box but would have loved the over sized scrunchie – didn’t even know they made them so will be buying one of those.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca Peterson

Thanks for commenting Jeanie! I didn’t realize they made over-sized scrunchies either, but I am definitely a fan. I have been thinking about dragging my sewing machine out to whip up a few of my own….

Reply ButtonReply

Rowan

I was charged near the end of Febuary for mine. Haven’t received it as of yet though. They need to let current customers retake that quiz every so often without having to cancel and sign up again. I haven’t done that in a long time though.

Reply ButtonReply

Shannon

I haven’t received mine either, still says processing shipment 🤷

Reply ButtonReply

Rowan

I was told by them to contact USPS. I replied that I wasn’t happy with their resolution because they closed my ticket by saying that and not offering any other assistance. Reviewing products I didn’t receive was mentioned though. I was told earlier today in response to the reply that I sent indicating that I wasn’t happy with their original one that after it reaches USPS they are no longer responsible for anything according to their terms and conditions.

The case I opened with USPS ended up resulting in them saying that the tracing they did placed delivery of my box to the wrong address and that they weren’t able to retrieve it. In BrandShare’s Customer Service FAQs they say to contact them if a box doesn’t arrive or is misdelivered. If they won’t do anything about either of those things that should be mentioned to so people won’t waste time trying to get any kind of resolution. I didn’t think they’d essentially tell people they were SOL if the customer paid for something and received nothing. I’m awaiting a reply after forwarding the USPS investigation results which I’m guessing won’t do much to change their mind either.

I’m currently being grilled elsewhere as to why I’m expecting Walmart/BrandShare to do anything to help me. Obviously I’m going to cancel this subscription and will contact my bank to try to get my money back. If I don’t get it back at least I know I tried.

Becca Peterson

I hope you get yours soon Shannon and Rowan! I agree on the quiz front….their website is a quite vague…it would be nice to have an account that you can do those things under!

Jessica Hapak

This box looks awesome! Chiming in to say I love dashing diva and the strips really will last for 2+ weeks on me!

Thanks for commenting Jessica! ❤ I am loving those nail strips!! I am on day 10 and they still look awesome!!
