BomiBox K-Beauty Review “Spring Awakening” February 2024

After what felt like a century (but was probably just a month), I finally got my hands on the BomiBox for February, quaintly themed “Spring Awakening.” Spoiler alert: I’ve got a mixed bag of feelings here. BomiBox is a monthly Korean beauty subscription box. Each month, you get eight full-sized and deluxe sample-sized Korean skincare, makeup, beauty, and body products.

This is a review of BomiBox Luxe, which is $39.99 per month.

This box was sent to us at no cost to review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

I'm having déjà vu here; this reminds me of the November box. Once again, my box rolled in sans branding, probably because they just rushed-shipped these boxes after the delay they experienced. Still, first impressions count, and this was more 'meh' than 'yay.'

What's Inside:

COSRX Full Fit Propolis Light Ampoule (30ml) - Retail Value $28.00

We're starting off with a bang – or should I say, a buzz? 🐝 First off, if propolis isn’t your BFF yet, prepare for a major friendship moment. This ampoule packs 83% propolis extract – a gift from the bees – known for its antioxidant, healing, and moisturizing properties. 🍯 I love how this formula sinks into your skin faster than you can say “hydration,” leaving no tacky residue, just a smooth, glowy canvas. Plus, this is such a must-have if you have sensitive, dry, or acne-prone skin.

Be The Skin Vitavita Circle Zero Eye Cream (1.23oz) - Retail Value $20.50

Now, let’s talk eyes. Be The Skin Vitavita Circle Zero isn't your average eye cream. It's packed with vitamins B and C, offering a one-two punch of hydration and brightness to tired under-eyes. But what really got me? The texture—the silky smooth texture! It is soft, blends like a dream, and doesn't require you to tap too much, so you don't end up irritating the eye area.

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Cream (200ml) - Retail Value $27.99

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Cream...this one took me by surprise! If you’re nostalgic about the classic Ponds cream but crave something more modern, this is your match. Ideal for melting away the day’s makeup, its rice water extract is the hero here, offering a gentle, effective cleanse. It does leave a bit of a residue, so I recommend following up with your favorite foaming cleanser. And for those sensitive to scents, this one’s pleasantly low-key.

TOCOBO Sun Care Mini Duo (10ml) - Retail Value $11.00

To me, TOCOBO is a game-changer for sunscreen skeptics. The Bio Watery Sun Cream is a hydration hero – perfect for dry skin with its watery, lightweight formula with hyaluronic acid. On the flip side, the Vita Tone UP Sun Cream is the stuff of dreams for the glow-getters. It’s light, has a gel-like feel, and gives a subtle, natural brightness with its mung bean extract. Both are far from the sticky, oily sunscreens we're used to – I'd say they feel more like a morning moisturizer that happens to include SPF.

Isntree Onion Newpair Spot Patch Basic (10mmx12ea/12mmx12ea) - Retail Value $4.80

Let’s talk about a surprising find: the Isntree Onion Newpair Spot Patch. Yes, onion extract is the star here—but fear not—there's no onion smell. 🧅 The patches are packed with niacinamide for brightening and butylene glycol for softening the skin. They’re not a miracle cure, but they do a solid job at reducing inflammation and making those unwelcome zit visitors less noticeable.

Pyunkang Yul Low pH Pore Deep Cleansing Foam (40ml) Retail Value $7.30

The Pyunkang Yul Low pH Pore Deep Cleansing Foam is a standout, especially if you’re gentle with your skin but mean with dirt and grime. Its low pH means it respects your skin barrier, making it a great choice for those with sensitive skin. But what I loved most about it was the texture. 🫧 Imagine the fluffiest, richest lather, not very common with foam cleanser. And here’s a tip: let it sit for a few minutes like a mask for an extra deep clean.

Barulab The Clean Vegan TEATREE Mask (1 mask) - Retail Value $1.49

Spring can bring about all sorts of skin mood swings, and this mask is perfect for keeping breakouts at bay. It’s infused with tea tree oil, known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, but don't worry—it’s surprisingly hydrating rather than drying. The mask itself is a thin, lightweight sheet that feels almost invisible on the skin. I really liked how this is a simple, effective, and perfect pick-me-up for when your skin is feeling stressed or just needs a little extra love.

Missha Airy Fit Sheet Mask #Aloe (1 mask) - Retail Value $3.00

This face mask is the definition of keeping it simple yet effective. Highlighting one of my favorite ingredients, aloe, this mask is like a soothing hug for your face. I LOVED that this sheet mask is made with an ultra-thin sheet that fits snugly, almost like a second skin. If you're looking for a no-fuss, straightforward hydration mask, this is it.

Takeaways

Wrapping up this month's BomiBox journey, it was a mixed bag. While the box had its highs (hello, hydration heroes!) and lows (mini sizes, I’m looking at you), it overall provided a solid mix of skincare goodness and a delightful introduction to spring’s fresh start.

In the end, this BomiBox was a reminder that beauty is not just about the products but the experiences they bring. Here's hoping the future boxes are packed with as much care and surprise as the cherry blossoms in spring.

Hi Geraldine, Thanks so much as always for your informative and honest reviews. Your feedback means so much to our little business. For transparency, as the owner of Bomibox I’m heartbroken that any customer or reviewer receives a box in this condition. I’ve always envisioned Bomibox as a happy experience, like receiving a gift in the mail, and a huge part of the experience is the packaging. This box (and the one you received in November) in no way matches that vision, and for this I am so sorry. I’m sending out a communication asap to all our customers as there may be others also affected, but I will be making some drastic changes so that we do not experience these issues with shipping, delays and of course packaging. I appreciate the feedback and will work hard to prevent this from happening again. Thanks again!
