First Impressions

The first thing I noticed about this box is that it’s for the month of January, which means the brand is super close to being caught up. Hooray!

What's Inside The Box

The box arrives with a booklet of information that lists the products and highlights some of the brands found within. January's theme was "Eco at Home."

BOMBAY & CEDAR Scotch Pine Essential Oil and Sweet Orange Essential Oil, 10 ml - Retail Value $15 (Scotch Pine) and $12 (Sweet Orange)

A pair of essential oils are always included in the Bombay and Cedar Lifestyle Box, and this month brings us a powerful combo of scotch pine and sweet orange. The scotch pine essential oil prides itself on the claim that it delivers a naturally derived uplifting and cleansing effect on the mind and body. For some people, it can help eliminate fatigue, promote easier breathing, boost energy, enhance concentration, ease sore muscles, joints, and headaches, and more. The sweet orange essential oil has reportedly seen some success in treating muscle spasms, relieving inflammation, boosting immunity, treating constipation, and more. I’m not a huge fan of essential oils myself. I don’t feel confident that these all-natural oils can work the miracles they profess. That said, I may keep these two around the house because you never know.

NCLA BEAUTY Black Cherry Lip Scrub, Lip Balm, and Lip Scrubber Lip Care Kit, 10 ml (balm) || 15 ml (scrub) - Retail Value $24.00

I was blown away by the adorable packaging of this lip care kit. When I pulled it out of the box, my first thought was that it was a supplement of some form. How excited I was to find out I was wrong. I am obsessed with caring for my lips. I do my best to maintain a steady self-care schedule, but you know, sometimes those plans go awry and my lips end up feeling a bit less than baby-smooth. This compact lip care kit (black cherry scented, yum) is sure to serve as a cute reminder for me to give my lips a little extra love whenever they need it. This set includes a hydrating lip balm, a gentle lip scrub, and the most adorable silicone lip scrubber, designed in the shape of a pair of lips. I don’t think I’ve ever used a lip scrubber before, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be my new favorite thing. Pairing this lip scrubber with the lip scrub definitely adds an extra level of exfoliation that is gentle and leaves my lips feeling smooth, hydrated and never irritated.

TOOTHBUCKLE Toothbrush Set - Listed Value $10.00

Wow, I never knew this was a thing but glad to see that it exists. Toothbuckle is an inventive toothbrush set with a convenient bamboo brush that includes a special toothbrush cover. This cover specializes in locking out the nasty bathroom germs that hang around in the air and keep them from making their way onto your toothbrush and subsequently into your mouth. The cover also contains natural silver, which provides additional antibacterial protection. I honestly can’t say enough good things about this product. It’s soft to the touch and offers ventilation so that your toothbrush will dry in between brushing. Plus, it is sustainable and makes it easy to bring your toothbrush with you wherever you need it be, whether that’s at home or on the go. The cover easily locks onto the toothbrush, so you know that it’s staying clean and protected the whole time.

THE COOL PROJECTS Soap Stick in Loved, 125 ml - Retail Value $26.00

I am not much of a bar soap kind of gal. Say what you will, but to me, it’s just gross to me. Cleaning yourself with the same bar of soap you just used to remove germs and dirt from your body… Yeah, I prefer soap in a dispenser. That said, this soap stick from The Cool Projects is one out of seven available ‘moods’ from their ‘Mood of the Day’ line, and it’s nothing short of innovative, at the very least. This soap, ‘Loved,’ comes in a pretty reddish-pink shade and is scented with jasmine and bergamot essential oils. It is literally soap in the form of a stick. A unique shape, but to be honest, I don’t understand how the shape is more useful compared to any other bar of soap. If anyone has any ideas, please do let me know in the comments below! It’s something I’ve never seen before, and you can even hang the soap stick from a rope or string of some kind. There is a hole conveniently placed at one end so you can hang it in the shower. Another curious thought… I would have expected the rope to be included but it was not. The downside about this soap for me is the scent; I do not enjoy it at all, but I very much appreciate the fact that this soap has been specially formulated as an all-natural olive oil soap.

NIMBY Reusable Compressed Towels, 20 count - Retail Value $9.99

Now, these are cool. I’ve been aware of compressed towels and have used some in a pinch, but these Nimby Reusable Compressed Towels are next level. They have sanitizing properties and claim to remove 99.9% of germs, without any of the harsh chemicals other sanitizers tend to use. Plus, these towels are rinsable, allowing you to reuse them up to five times each. I wasn’t expecting the most from these, but I have to say, I am seriously impressed. I simply added water to one of these and saw it come to life before my eyes. Made from a eucalyptus-based rayon that is antimicrobial, compostable, and flushable, these towels expand and effortlessly remove all traces of dirt and germs from your hands, body, or any surface. These little towels are definitely going to be staying in my go-bag for any last-minute overnighters or business trips.

NOW DESIGNS BY DANICA Save It Bowl Cover, 13 x 9 inches - Listed Value $20.00

I guess what they say is true… After a certain age, you really do start to morph into your mom. Because little things, like this bowl cover, now excite me more than they should. This innovative cover is a sustainable option to tin foil or plastic wrap. It reminds me of a showercap for your food dish. The exterior is made from a durable cotton-like material, and the interior is lined with a food-safe plastic-like material. I really appreciate the sizing on this cover. It’s larger than it looks and stretches enough for almost any sized bowl. I was able to cover an entire casserole dish and pop it right into the fridge without having to worry about getting out some Tupperware or using a type of disposable material. The cover itself feels like it is good quality, but of course, keep in mind that it is not spill-proof or airtight nor does it claim to be. This is perfect for marinating or covering bread dough that needs to rise. I was also really shocked by how easy the cover is to keep clean. I can just wash it off in the sink or throw it into the laundry if it needs a really good washing.

SARAH CENTRELLA #FutureBoards, 224 pages - Retail Value $14.51

This hardcover book is compact and sleek, yet the chaotic design of the cover is what drew my eye at first. I was super excited to crack it open… Until I realized that it was all about creating your own real-world vision board. I know, plenty of people swear by vision boards and everything about them; the planning, the dreaming, the speaking it into existence… In general, I consider myself to be a pretty positive person, so I’m all for that (within reason), but when it comes to actual vision boards, they just aren’t for me. So, I will be passing along this book to a friend of mine who loves all things vision boards, and I’m sure she is going to be thrilled. While this book may not be for me personally, I can tell you that it is filled to the brim with insightful techniques that can help you get your life in order. It can help you create your own personalized step-by-step plan on achieving the life you have so far only dreamed about. Of course, individual processes will vary from person to person, but this book can inspire any reader to look at things in a different way than ever before. Plus, it really does offer up a fresh take on what we typically think of as a traditional vision board, so if that’s your jam, you will most likely love this.

UGLIES Kettle Cooked Potato Chips in Sea Salt, 57 g - Estimated Retail Value $1.29

Hooray, a snack. I love the concept behind these Uglies potato chips. These chips are sustainable and crafted from imperfect potatoes to help cut down on food waste. I was pleasantly surprised by these. Although I’m a huge fan of potato chips, I tend to go for the specially flavored ones (especially limited editions flavors, OMG) rather than a plain old sea salt chip. But I really enjoyed these chips. Yes, they were a little rough around the edges and even slightly ‘burnt’ (darker than your typical potato chip), which I personally enjoy. I love the crispy texture of these, and they are sized for poppable perfection. One thing I noticed, however, is that they were a bit greasier than I expected, especially for a kettle cooked chip. Regardless of that, I’m glad to have learned about this sustainable brand, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for them in stores.

Verdict

This was an interesting month for the Bombay & Cedar Lifestyle Box. The highlight for me was Danica Now Designs’ bowl cover. I’m always glad for another way to cut down on waste, but besides that, this is an innovative product that I will use regularly. NCLA Beauty’s lip care kit is an adorable and super compact reminder to give my lips the care they deserve. The compressed towels from Nimby really impressed me with their durability and their reusability. I really enjoy the inclusion of the Toothbuckle toothbrush set. A clean toothbrush is a major win for me, and I love that I can take it on the go and know that my toothbrush will be protected no matter what. Uglies’ sea salt kettle chips were a yummy snack, and I love how the company works to cut down on food waste. The two essential oils, scotch pine and sweet orange, have the potential to deliver some incredible benefits, and I’m interested to see what my findings are. Lastly, although I will be passing along The Cool Projects ‘Loved’ soap stick and the #FutureBoards book, these two items were nice inclusions in line with the ‘Eco at Home’ theme and added an extra step to the level of product diversity in this curation. Overall, I thought this was a good box from Bombay and Cedar; not only is the value there but the products included are very on-theme, which I appreciate.
