First Impressions

At 35 years old, I have spent an insane amount of time in the kitchen cooking for my family. I definitely know my way around the kitchen, and have even won a few grand champion ribbons at the local county fair for my baked goods. That being said, I am clueless when it comes to grilling. With a husband and two boys that live for hunting wild game, that doesn't make for a good combination, so my husband has become the ultimate grill master. With Father's Day around the corner, I discovered Grill Masters Club and decided it would make for the perfect gift for my hubby. Though a little early, he couldn't wait to try this box out, and was thoroughly impressed. Read below to see what we discovered.

The Products

As this is our first experience with this box, we weren't quite sure what to expect, but were really excited to find a pamphlet containing information about this month's inclusions, as well as a ton of delicious looking recipes! This month's theme was "Big Rib Energy" and as my husband and kids adore ribs, couldn't wait to check out the contents.

Featuring six recipes that utilize this month's contents, we were given some really great dinner ideas. While we didn't follow them exactly, we did use the "Pulled Pork Sliders with Slaw" recipe as a base for our wild turkey legs, as well as the spare rib recipe, and twice smoked potato recipe. Continue reading for pictures of the delicious outcomes!

Miners Mix "Brown Sugar BBQ Kansas Sweety" Seasoning - Retail Value $6.99

My husband is a big fan of artisan seasonings and rubs, so I had a feeling this subscription was going to impress him. Because of his love of hunting, we have a freezer full of wild game, along with traditional meats like pork and beef. My husband enjoys grilling, but he enjoys creating meals that even wild game "haters" love. This particular rub contains brown sugar, salt, chili powder, spices, and rice fiber. Recommended for smoked BBQ, beef, pork ribs, and pulled pork, this was a wonderfully sweet rub with a spicy BBQ kick. With only 4 calories in 1/4 tsp and 1 gram of carbs, this is a great way to flavor up meat, all while being made in the USA!!

Miners Mix Lone Star Carnivore All Purpose-Rub - Retail Value $6.99

The second rub that was included featured salt, garlic, natural sun-dried tomatoes, spices, onion, mushroom, and canola oil. A unique mix that adds flavor to any food, the mushroom and sun-dried tomatoes added an earthy flair to just about anything, but is recommended for steak, brisket, chicken, pork, lamb, and game. Also made in the USA, this rub contains only real flavor with no artificial ingredients and no added MSG.

Torchbearer Sauces "All Natural Honey Barbecue Sauce" - Retail Value $7.99

To be honest, it sometimes takes me a little (actually a lot) of sauce to enjoy wild game. With a never ending variety of barbecue sauces out there, it's hard to find one that is just perfect, but here it is. With a mild spice and honey flavoring, this sauce really is delicious. A little thinner than what we typically use, we discovered this has no high-fructose corn syrup in its ingredient list, and is actually healthy for you! With a silly cartoon label, my kids were apt to pour this on anything they could find, and my dad (who is just about the pickiest eater on the planet) raved about this sweet and spicy sauce, and has actually requested a bottle as his Father's Day gift!

Torchbearer Sauces "All Natural Carolina-Style Barbecue Sauce" - Retail Value $7.99

Interestingly enough, I didn't know vinegar-based BBQ sauce was a thing, but alas, here we have the winner of the 2023 International Flavor Awards for that very category. With a very tangy, vinegary flavor, this sauce was a little too tart for our tastebuds when served on its own. Featuring tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, white vinegar, sugar, canola oil, garlic lemon juice, yellow mustard, chili peppers, salt, and crushed red pepper, this was definitely not what I was expecting! Recommended for pulled pork, wings, ribs, marinade, or even salads, I ended up using this as a marinade, and loved the end results.

Grill Masters Club Corkscrew Bottle Opener

One can never have enough bottle openers, so we appreciated the inclusion of this multi-use tool in this month's box. My husband has placed this tool in the cabinet attached to the grill for when the need arises. Overall, it was a fun inclusion that fit well with the theme of the box.

Taste Test

Like I said before, I gifted this set to my husband as an early Father's Day present, and it was a hit! Here are a few of the recipes we created with the "Big Rib Energy" contents.

Pulled Wild Turkey Sliders with Slaw

Admittedly, our first use utilizing the Brown Sugar BBQ Kansas Sweety rub wasn't for the grill, but on wild turkey legs that I threw in the crock pot for shredded BBQ turkey sandwiches. This rub added a sweet and spicy BBQ flavor to the dark meat of these legs, creating a delicious (and easy) lunch when paired with air fried potatoes, Cole slaw, and of course extra Honey Barbecue Sauce by Torchbearer Sauces!

Air Fried Potatoes

Speaking of those potatoes, here they are smothered in olive oil with the Lone Star Carnivore Rub. A few shakes of this created an earthy salt and pepper flavor that paired perfectly with the turkey sliders! Another great recipe was the "Twice Smoked Potato" recipe featured on the last page of the pamphlet. Utilizing the Carnivore rub, Sweety BBQ rub, and Honey Barbecue Sauce, these turned out amazing, but I somehow managed to forget to take a photo!

Pork Spare Ribs

Because this subscription is literally titled "Grill Master" we had to try out these products in the indicated manner right?! Here we have two packages of pork spare ribs, that were smoked and cooked on the pellet grill with the Kansas Sweety Brown Sugar BBQ Rub, and then basted with the Honey Barbecue Sauce. People, these ribs turned out AMAZING!!!!! The sweet and spice of the rub and sauce was perfection, and the meat literally fell off the bones! Yum!!

Grilled Pork Chops

For us, cooking is a family affair, so my 9-year-old son wanted to help dad grill some pork chops. Basting the chops with the Carolina-Style barbecue sauce, and then sprinkling with the Lone Star Carnivore Rub, he carried these out to the grill and helped cook them up. Tender and smokey, you couldn't detect a vinegar flavor from the sauce, but the seasoning was just right! A perfect end to a busy Sunday, we have definitely been eating like kings lately!

 The Verdict

As a first time subscriber of Grill Masters Club, I have to say our family is impressed. Originally chosen as a gift for my husband, I myself as a grilling newbie found the contents of this box to be excellent even when not grilling. We are definitely a protein heavy family, and transforming typical meats into BBQ delectableness is not only fun, but tasty! We really enjoyed the American made rubs and sauces, along with the bottle opener. These high quality, artisan flavorings paired with the recipe book makes for a really fun experience that takes grilling to the next level. Great for anyone obsessed with meat, this would also make for a fantastic Christmas gift, or birthday gift for that hard to buy for brother-in-law. We're already looking forward to next month's curation!
