We’re back with my January Rocksbox review, and it was underwhelming to say the least. Between my terrible picks and platform glitches, I sent this set back almost as quickly as I got it!

Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and rental service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy whatever they love at a discounted price. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your ever-growing wish list. Members can keep and wear the three pieces they receive for as long as they want, or they can switch out sets whenever they'd like. Rocksbox also offers a monthly credit so you can buy the pieces for less.

Concerned about cleanliness? Each piece is sterilized with alcohol jewelry cleaner using medical grade products and handled with jewelry experts wearing gloves.

This is a review of the monthly plan for $21, which includes shipping to the US only.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Just like other subscription boxes, when I signed up for Rocksbox I had to set up a style profile that asked me questions like my metal preference, and which necklace, earring, bracelet, and ring styles I liked the most.

Let's check out this month's delivery!

What I Received

Slate Conrad Statement Hoops- Retail Value $60, Member Price $51

About this item: Despite thinking Tiffany & Co. is overrated, I have a thing for their hardwear collection and the Conrad Statement Hoops slightly reminded me of it.  Crafted in 14K gold-plated brass, these oversized, open-back hoops took me back to the days of Salt-N- Pepa! Featuring a stacked, spherical design, these earrings measure at 2" and are made with stainless steel earring post backs.

Condition: Great.

Review: They were too big and clunky, felt cheap and looked odd on me too!

Perry Street Eliana Statement Curb Drop Earrings - Retail Price $65, Member Price $55

About this item: Designed with colorful glass mosaic stones and pave diamonds, the Eliana Drop earrings are made of 14k gold plated brass with stainless steel backings. They measure at 2 ¼” long and they were a lot lighter than the next pair of earrings I’m about to review.

Condition: Perfect!

Review: They reminded me of a Christmas tree decked out in colorful lights. They’re lightweight and festive, and I only wished I had more opportunities to wear them.

Lele Sadoughi Geo-Bezel Clip-On Drop Earrings - Retail Value $225, Member Price $225

About this item: Lele Sadoughi creates some really interesting statement pieces and the Geo-Bezel clip-ons are no exception to the rule. Crafted in 14k gold plated hexagon bezel, these oversized double drop earrings feature golden charms and hand set colored stones. They’re 2 ½” long, insanely heavy, and feature clip-on pads for extra comfort (but they’re still not comfortable).

Condition: Excellent.

Review: Hey, if you rent these earrings, you may want to keep your doctor on speed dial because you’ll either tear your earlobes or end up with a neck injury! So heavy and annoying, I never wore them.

The Verdict

Honestly, I couldn’t wait to send back this set and replace it with a new one. Why? For starters, they still had that glitch where I couldn’t swap out earrings so I got stuck with those Lele Sadoughi clip-on earrings which were completely unwearable unless you want an earlobe injury. The Slate hoops were like a Halloween costume, and the Perry Street earrings were too festive after the holiday season ended.

I’ve had the new set for about two weeks now and I may not send it back!

With my Rocksbox discounts and the member pricing including the buy-all-three-items $10 discount, the $21 of Shine Credit (doesn't look like this applied this time), and my Rose Gold Rewards discount of $16.55 the total price for the three items goes down to $283.45.

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.
