kidpik is a seasonal clothing subscription for kids sizes 2-16. You can choose to have a box delivered every 4, 6, or 12 weeks and all designs are unique to kidpik so you can’t find these pieces and accessories anywhere else. There is no styling fee, returns are free, and if you keep your entire box, you get a 30% discount on your items.

After receiving a well rounded June kidpik box, Hank was extremely excited to dig into the July box. Again, featuring his name printed on the box lid, he mentioned that ripping open the tissue paper was more like opening a birthday present than school clothes shopping, and that right there is a win. Let's get unpacking!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

kidpik July Review

When you sign up for kidpik, they ask you a few questions related to your child's size and style preferences. Clothing sizes range from 2 to 16 and shoes range from Toddler 7 to Youth 6. You can choose multiple style preferences, colors, and designs, and opt out of things as well. It's very customizable!

When you check out, you have the option to return, exchange or donate the items for free using the postage-paid envelope they provided. This process is very easy and quick. Once the items are sealed inside the bag, place it in your mailbox with the flag up, and off they go!

Inside our box, there was a pamphlet with a thank you note on the front and kidpik's contact and social media info on the back. Also provided is information on exactly how the checkout process works along with our invoice. Our total came to $226.12 for all 8 items, but with the 30% discount for keeping all items, the total comes to $157.78. That's a savings of $68.34 on these items if we choose to keep everything.

Autumn Shadow Plaid Shirt - Retail Value $27.80 (30% off Price $19.46)

Made from a blend of cotton and polyester, this ultra-soft and cozy flannel shirt is the perfect mix of casual and dressy. Featured in fall colors, this handsome flannel has a great pattern, and is exactly the kind of shirt we look for when "Back to School" shopping. Perfect for fall concerts and family date days, this shirt is very fitting!

Fall is coming y'all, and as much as we hate to see summer end, I am loving the look of this plaid flannel! While Hank likes dressing casual as much as a typical 10 year old boy would, he also likes dressing up a bit, and loved this particular shirt. Because of Hank's measurements, we stuck with the size 12 and it fit perfectly. The arms length was perfect, and though the tails were a bit shorter than some of his other button-ups, we found we preferred this look because tucking in shirts just doesn't work well for a 10 year old. Hank commented on how soft the fabric was and how much he enjoyed the colors. Perfect for family pictures or a day on the farm, this top paired well with the jeans, but also looked nice with the included cargo pants. Versatile and handsome, this shirt was a definite winner.

USA License Plate Contrast Stitch Tee - Retail Value $17.80 (30% off Price $12.46)

When reviewing Hank's style and color preferences, I took a minute to appreciate the fact that he is very easy going and has a wide range of likes! Another great inclusion was this sage green USA license plate shirt. Made from 100% jersey cotton, with extra detail stitching, kidpik did a really nice job designing this shirt. Hank loved the use of license plates and thought this was really cool. Fitting like a dream, it too is very soft and is most importantly machine washable.

Fitting perfectly all around, this shirt was another great inclusion. Though we are still in the midst of summer, I appreciated the natural tones and autumn feel. Hank really liked the design of this shirt, and appreciated the smaller details in the stitching. Finding the material very comfortable, he mentioned that this is something he would have picked out for himself, and has already worn it grocery shopping!

Straight Jean - Retail Value $32.80 (30% Off Price $22.96)

Pairing perfectly with the two tops we have so far discovered was the addition of these straight leg, Finley wash jeans. Made of a cotton, polyester, spandex, rayon blend, these jeans are a bit stretchy, and ultra comfy. Including an adjustable strap and button on the inside for the slimmer folks, these can adjust to fit a variety of body types, and have some simple, yet handsome detailing on the back pocket. A lighter wash than the pair we received last month, these were great for gearing us up as we head into the cooler months.

Jeans are a necessity here in Minnesota, and Hank is a bit fussy when it comes to fit and feel. Because he wears cowboy boots on occasion, he needs a leg that will go over the top of his boots, but he doesn't like too wide of a leg. This straight leg version is perfect, and he commented just how good they feel and stretch. He has worn the darker wash pair from last month multiple times and is quite impressed with how well they wash up and wear. The lighter version is a great way to change it up and looks nice paired with a dressy shirt, or something more casual.

Pull On Cargo Pant - Retail Value $32.80 (30% Off Price $22.96)

Made from 100% cotton, these tan jogger cargo pants are a little different than what Hank is used to, but a really fitting inclusion for this box. Allowing for a dressier alternative to jeans, these pants feature an elastic band, cuffed bottoms, and many closable pockets.

Honestly, I don't think Hank has owned a pair of cargo pants since he was a toddler, so I was interested to see what he would think. Enjoying the elastic band and multitude of pockets, he didn't hate this pair of pants, and actually liked them paired with the sweatshirt and flannel. A little unsure of what type of footwear to pair these jogger bottoms with, he ultimately chose the included boots and was happy overall with the look.

Thermal Washed Henley - Retail Value $27.80 (30% Off Price $19.46)

Gearing up for fall, this long sleeved henley is great for layering as well as wearing on its own. Made from 100% cotton knit thermal, these always crack me up with how long and skinny the arms look. Available in a variety of colors, Hank received the "Mango Mojito" version, and found that it paired very well with the rest of the box.

A henley top isn't something Hank has had in his closet for a few years, so I was interested to see what he would think. While he liked the color and the design, he wasn't quite sure about the long looking arms. Once on, he discovered it fit perfect and though not as soft as the other shirts, added a warming layer under the flannel. Overall, he thought this was a good addition to his closet, and thought it might also go good under the License Plate tee.

Boys Braided Belt - Retail Value $9.80 (30% Off Price $6.86)

Because Hank is so slim in the waist, a belt is a necessity and prior to this box, he only owned a black one. Excited for more variety, he was eager to try on this brown braided version. Featuring silver hardware and a stretchy braid, this belt has endless fits due to the fact it doesn't need holes. Completely on par with the color palette of this month's box, it matched the included boots (a must of course!) and is perfect for fall.

Pairing perfectly with the jeans, Hank really liked the braided belt. Not only did he like the design and color, but he also appreciated the silver hardware. The only downside of this belt was the thick leather end. While sturdy and well made, it was a bit too thick and a little hard to push through the belt loops, especially when it made it's way to the front. Besides that little inconvenience, this belt was awesome.

Hunter Workboot - Retail Value $46.80 (30% Off Price $32.76)

Boots are another staple in young Hank's life, and while his favorite ones are cowboy boots, we both agreed this style was definitely on par with his type of dress. Made from man-made materials, the quality of these boots is really nice, and the inclusion of the side zipper very helpful. With non-marking soles, these will keep the school janitor off our back, and they are a little dressy, yet a little casual for a variety of looks.

Hanks first thoughts about these boots were about how much he liked the brown color, and how they coordinated with the included belt so well. Right now a size 4 1/2 shoe fits him perfectly, but we asked for a size up to get more use out of them. With that, these were a bit big which is what we were going for. With a memory foam insole, Hank thought these were very comfortable and liked the zipper on the side to help put on and take off these boots. Fitting nicely under his jeans, these looked casual and dressy at the same time, and were perfect for our impromptu date night!

Chest Stripe Pocket Crew - Retail Value $29.80 (30% Off Price $20.86)

The last item chosen for Hank in this month's kidpik was this striped pocket crew shirt. A little more vibrant in color and design than the other picks, this cotton sweatshirt wasn't something I would have picked for Hank myself, but found he really liked it!

While Hank generally likes more muted tones, his initial reaction to this sweatshirt was glee as the majority of it matches the U of M colors. Looking quite preppy and handsome paired with the cargo pants, this outfit was perfect for our Sunday church outing. Down played with jeans, this sweatshirt fit really well, and just like the tee's was made from very soft material. A surprising win, I am happy to see this kid's wardrobe grow.

The Verdict

Backing up to last month, when I signed up for kidpik I wasn't sure what to expect. Would Hank like the clothes chosen for him? How would the quality and sizing be? How do returns work? Well, if you read last time, it was awesome! After over a month of wear, the quality is great, all of the clothes have washed up beautifully, and Hank has re-worn items over and over again. Can a subscription company do that two months in a row? Absolutely! After a fantastic June, I was anxiously anticipating just what kind of styles Hank would receive this time, and I have to say, I think they did even better! While not all items were styles I at first glance thought Hank would be into, he ended up loving them. Because of all of the great fits and styles, we again didn't utilize the return feature, but read in the FAQ section of the website that it is super easy with the included envelope. After asking Hank if he would rather go to town and sit in a dressing room trying on clothes, or have them sent to us for school clothes shopping, you can guess which way he'd rather go! Keep up the awesome work kidpik - we love you!

Since the keep-all price is $157.78, that gives each of the 8 items an average cost of $19.72 which is a bit higher than their listed average of $15.00 per piece. The increase is due to receiving three long sleeved shirts and a pair of boots instead of all t-shirts and tennis shoes. The incredible picks paired with the the convenience and success we had with this box, found it definitely worth it. Since the styling fee is free, there's no risk in giving it a try, either! Overall, we found this box amazing and can't wait to see what is in store for next month.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? kidpik curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what season it is. You might get something that fits your son's style even better than the items that we received.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $0 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $226.12. The invoice lists the cost of each item next to it, but if we keep all 8 items, then we get a 30% discount. This would bring the price down to $157.78 for the 8 items, which is an average of $19.72 per item.

All the clothes look great on Hank. Love the boots. The price for all is very reasonable and as noted saves you time and effort going to a mall. Great review!

Thanks Leslie! He really enjoyed these picks and had much more fun shopping from home than at the store. He’s already looking forward to seeing what styles they have in mind for next month!
