IPSY is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. For $13 per month, you get five full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (FYI – Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).

First Impressions

Your IPSY Glam bag will come in the brand's standard pale pink bubble wrap mailer. When you open it up, you can always expect to find a makeup bag storing your new beauty products and an info sheet with additional details.

This month's bag was a fun pink mesh and blue nylon bag with a neon yellow zipper pull that says "love." I love it!

The Breakdown – What’s Inside My June 2023 Ipsy Glam Bag

Adesse Gel Effect Nail Polish in Bellini,  0.37 oz - Retail Value $18

I painted my nails around Easter and that was the first time I had done so in over a year- I became a Dashing Diva convert for a few years and recently got an acrylic set that I somehow keep getting fills for at the nail salon rather than soaking them off. A polish shade like Bellini, though, is the perfect pink shade to give you a "your nails but better" finish. Typically pinks this light are more milky and sheer, but this one has a good opaque-ness to it. I like that this is a polish you can take off with regular acetone, but it has a high-shine glossy finish almost like you would receive with a gel manicure.

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue® Natural Matte Tinted Moisturizer in Vanilla, 7 mL - Estimated Value $7.21 (buy the 1.18 oz version for $37)

I was quite pleased when I saw this was coming in our box- I'm a fan of BareMinerals' complexion products and I haven't seen this brand featured in Ipsy in a long while. Based on my profile I was sent the shade Vanilla, which is for "very fair neutral skin with a peach hue." I do think this was a tiny bit warm on me and I could have gone up a shade, but this was still really wearable on me and I liked the formula. It evened out my complexion while still looking really natural, and I found it easy to rub in with my hands (perfect for those sleepy mornings).

Here I am with no makeup at all (just sunscreen), then the tinted moisturizer, then with the tinted moisturizer, setting powder, lip gloss, eyeshadow, and mascara.

Dito Ice Cream Liquid Lipstick in Lucky, 3.6 mL - Retail Value $12

This was my choice item for the month, and I'll be honest and say I had higher expectations than the performance that actually occurred. I was drawn in by the packaging, and it is just as cute in real life as it is online. But in person, the Lucky shade is a lot deeper than the more neutral pink I was expecting, and when I applied it to my lips and went about my evening I startled myself when I later looked in the mirror when I saw a ring color along the outer edges of my lips with everything faded off in between (and I hadn't eaten a full meal or anything). This is a pass for me.

Frank Body Rosehip Body Scrub & Cleanser, 30 g - Estimated Value $2.64 (buy the 250 g version for $22)

I like this brand and am always happy to give them a try when they appear in a subscription box- though apparently, you need to watch out if you live with a partner who likes to make dad jokes. When I added this to my shower area for easy testing access, my fiance read the name and asked me "Since when do roses have hips?" Anyways, this vegan scrub smells great thanks to the mix of coffee seed extract and lavender oil, and I like that this is also formulated with nourishing shea butter and jojoba oil. It did have some grit (it's a scrub, after all), but I thought it did a good job of leaving my skin cleansed and silky smooth when I rinsed it away.

WingMe Cosmetics Small Shading Brush - Listed Value $10 (purchase it in a set here)

I am always down to receive a new brush in a subscription, even if my brush collection is massive. This small shading brush has the perfect tip (in my opinion) for smudging out shadow as an eyeliner along your eyes (or actual eyeliner if you're wanting to soften it). You can also use the flat side to pack color onto your lids, but I personally prefer a fluffier brush for that.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $13

Value Breakdown:

  • Adesse: $18 → $4.69
  • BareMinerals: $7.21 → $1.88
  • Dito: $12 → $3.13
  • Frank Body: $2.64 → $0.69
  • WingMe Cosmetics: $10 → $2.61

Value Breakdown: This month everything in my Glam Bag added up to $49.85. Alternatively, it breaks down to paying $2.60 per item, not including the actual bag.

Key Takeaways

I thought this was a decent glam bag from Ipsy, and I think it's a good example of why value can be very subjective to the person receiving it. My two favorite items this month were the Frank Body scrub and BareMinerals tinted moisturizer, and those are the lowest-valued items in the bag. The full-size lip product wasn't my favorite, and while I can appreciate the nail polish I'll probably pass that along to a friend who paints their nails more frequently than I do. The eyeshadow brush will get used. At $13, this is a tough subscription to beat- especially when every month you get to choose one of the items they send (even if that choice item ends up not working out like the case I had this month, at least you got the fun experience of experimenting).

I wish this bag was still available! Does anyone know where I could buy a complete bag like this?

Vicki, this is a monthly subscription box. You are not guaranteed to get the same bag that she reviewed since they have a variety of products that they use to create the bags. You do get to choose one of your products each month but the rest of the items are random. I’ve subscribed for years, but I never get the exact bag that they review on here. I may get a product or two that they do otherwise it’s all different. You can go to the IPSY website and take a look at the pass bags and what’s in them I believe.
