Looking for a way to successfully preserve coffee to maintain the utmost flavor and quality, the secret has been uncovered and Cometeer was born. Though officially launching in 2021, Cometeer has been in the works since 2015. Being ultra-convenient, this hyper-flavorful coffee is made with top-tier beans from the world's best roasters, ground and brewed with incredible precision to be as delicious as possible, flash-frozen at peak flavor, and ready to be melted by you. With eight different roast complexity options to choose from, including light, medium, dark, mixed, decaf, half-caf, medium/dark, light/medium, you are sure to find something you will enjoy.

Three years ago, I discovered this delicious drink called coffee. Yes, I know I was late to the game on this, but because of an aggravated gallbladder, I avoided caffeinated beverages for most of my adult life. After a cholecystectomy, my life changed (definitely for the better), and I now have the ability to drink coffee without writhing in pain afterwards! I started out my coffee journey drinking the leftovers in the pot after my husband went to work but started wanting more. Because we only own a drip pot, I thought my choices were limited. That is until I discovered Cometeer. Talk about a life changer! Not only can I "brew" a cup of coffee wherever and whenever I want, but the flavor combos are truly out of this world. Read below to see what I received in my first shipment.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This is a review of the 32 cup "Mixed Roast Box" which retails for $64.00.

First Impressions

I loved the sophisticated packaging. Not only were the contents presented beautifully, but the flavor combos were extremely intriguing. I couldn't wait to brew my first cup!

What's Inside a Cometeer Box?

Packaged neatly into four different flavor specified boxes, I received eight cups of each brew, for a total of 32 frozen cups. Also included was an introductory guide, a tip, tricks, and instructions pamphlet, and a referral program card.

Welcome Card

Featuring photos of varying brands, this card gave us a glimpse of the ever-changing roasts we can expect to see on a monthly basis.

Referral Program Card

As a Cometeer member, you can give your friends $25 off their first box, and once they join, you'll get $25 off your next order, as well as exclusive referral rewards. Rewards include exclusive tumblers, hats, and even a Yeti cooler!

Cometeer Process Card

What makes Cometeer so different from other coffee pods you ask? Well, they have a very interesting process that is unlike any I have ever heard of. Working with roasters across the country, Cometeer chooses beans from around the world to bring only the best to their doors. Once the beans are roasted, they brew them using their state-of-the-art brewing system for a perfect cup. Sounds pretty typical, but it doesn't stop there. Once the beans are roasted and brewed, the coffee is then plunged into liquid nitrogen in an oxygen free environment to ensure you get the freshest tasting coffee on the planet. Through this process, Cometeer prides its coffee on tasting fresh for months and months, without preservatives. Also being environmentally conscious, Cometeer cups are produced in recyclable containers. They even send their spent coffee grounds to a local composting company!

Tips, Tricks and Instructions Card

Initially when I came across this brand of coffee, I almost passed it by thinking it was exclusive to coffee pod machine users. Boy was I wrong! While it can be used with a pod machine, no equipment is actually necessary! For hot coffee, you simply run the frozen pod under warm water and empty it into 6-8 ounces of hot water. Is iced coffee more your jam? Fill a glass with water and ice, and simply pour the melted capsule into your cup. You don't like water and would rather have a latte? Pour a melted capsule into milk. The possibilities are nearly endless! Just don't put the aluminum pods into the microwave - that, my friend, will end in disaster.

George Howell Coffee - Dota French

This month's mixed box contained one variety of dark roast that originated from Tarrazu, Costa Rica and featuring Washed Caturra & Catuai coffee varieties. With tasting notes of dark chocolate, almond, and peach, this is definitely not Folgers!

While I am usually a medium roast kind of gal, I can appreciate a dark roast from time to time. Needing an afternoon pick-me-up, I quickly thawed a pod of Dota French in a cup of hot water. Pouring over a glass of water filled with ice, I had an iced coffee in mere seconds. Adding a splash of heavy whipping cream for good measure, I was greeted with a dark, roasted, nutty flavor that perked me right up. While I couldn't really detect the peach note, I really did appreciate the fullness of this flavor and absolutely loved it iced coffee-style. One benefit of this coffee system is that you can add as much water and ice as you want. If you don't like a strong drink - add more water. If you prefer it strong, add less water. Customizable and easy, this tastes better than the coffee shop coffee right in my own home.

Onyx Coffee - Aponte Village

Originating from the Nariño region of Colombia, this blend of Honey Process Caturra, Bourbon, and Castillo varieties includes notes of cherry, floral honey, chocolate malt, and papaya. Complex and delicious, it definitely does not taste like my usual coffee leftovers...

Today was a little chilly when I woke up, so I decided to give the Aponte Village light roast a whirl in the traditional manner. Thawing via warm water, I heated up 12 ounces of water and dumped the pod right in. Transferring it into my big morning mug, I enjoyed this hot cup of joe without having to wait for it to brew and without having to clean a pot or dispose of grinds. While I didn't pull out any of the floral notes, I could detect a small amount of cherry and chocolate. It had a very smooth flavor but because it was a little strong, I did dilute it a little more than instructed. Overall, it was very warming and a perfect blend for fall!

Go Get Em Tiger (GGET) Coffee - Huadquiña

Originating from La Convención, Cusco region of Peru, this medium roast Washed Cuturra, Bourbon, and Typica blend has notes of cherry cola, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Yummy!

Frothy, deep, roasty, and nutty, this coffee enveloped my tongue in a wave of roasted deepness only an actual taste can explain. While I didn’t detect a cherry cola flavor, I was able to sense a dark chocolate vibe that was fabulous. Because I’m a coffee light weight I tend to only drink coffee in the am, as caffeine past noon causes me insomnia, but I needed an afternoon pick me up and created an iced latte via blender. Holy cow was this delish! At first, it was a little too potent, but tamed down nicely with a little added water - easy and fast, these pods are lifesavers!

Equator - El Batan

Originating from Espindola, Loja, Ecuador, this light roast Washed Typica coffee presents notes of orange marmalade, roasted almond, and oolong tea. What an interesting combo!

Warm and roasty with a light citrus note, this brew was lighter than previous roasts, but just as deep and flavorful. Just added to hot water, I had better-than-coffee-shop-coffee in almost an instant. Incredible!

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $64.00 plus free 2-day shipping

Coffee is a very divergent beverage, and the value comes down to the quality you are looking for. Sure, you can purchase a can of pre-ground coffee for a fraction of this price, but the quality is going to speak for itself. My experience with Cometeer was top notch. Not only were the pods easy to store in the freezer, but the convenience of brewing, the time saved, and the overall fantastic flavors were definitely worth it to me. For around $2 a cup, I now have the ability to enjoy a gourmet cup of coffee quickly at home and school without dealing with a coffee pot, overall saving time, energy, and money (all of which are things I want to conserve as much as possible)!

Key Takeaways

Overall, I found this coffee to be delicious, which to me is of the most importance. Because I have more freezer space than cupboard space, I like the fact that it is stored in the freezer and stays fresh for months rather than days. While the price point is a little steeper than other pods, the fact that I don't have to use a Keurig or pod coffee maker is beneficial, as well as the fact that fresh worldly coffee is only a minute or two away at any moment. Given the ability of turning this into an iced coffee or latte without any more fuss, Cometeer has definitely converted me with their coffee.

I completely agree with your review! I have subscribed to cometeer for a while now, and I think they have some of the tastiest coffee, especially to make easily at home. I like that they change up the coffees and flavors and I love that it’s sustainable. While it’s a little pricey, I think it’s worth it and definitely cheaper than buying coffee at a coffee shop.

If they ever offer a discount for your first box I’d try this. But I’m hesitant in case I don’t love it.
