First Impressions
I have been a fan of Sarah Pekkanen for a while, and so far I have enjoyed the books she has done with Greer Hendricks, too, so this month was kind of a no-brainer for me! While I love the months where the offerings are a bit outside my wheelhouse, I also get super excited when they offer something that I would definitely pick out if I were book shopping on my own, too!
Book Summary from Amazon:
Wealthy Washington suburbanites Marissa and Matthew Bishop seem to have it all―until Marissa is unfaithful. Beneath their veneer of perfection is a relationship riven by work and a lack of intimacy. She wants to repair things for the sake of their eight-year-old son and because she loves her husband. Enter Avery Chambers. Avery is a therapist who lost her professional license. Still, it doesn’t stop her from counseling those in crisis, though they have to adhere to her unorthodox methods. And the Bishops are desperate. When they glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.
My BOTM Pick for February
The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen - Retail Value $28.99 (On sale for $23.99)
It's made clear from the very beginning that Avery, the therapist, has lost her license to practice, so the tone of skepticism and feeling of not knowing who to trust was set from the start. This certainly altered the way I began this book because I was constantly expecting a surprise from her, but as I got to know this character, my skepticism quickly shifted to the couple in the book who seemed to be hiding something. As new facts were revealed, the story changed paths and then continued to do so until I really had no idea where it was headed. There were so many odd bits and pieces it was hard to figure out exactly what was going on, but it was evident there was a connection of some sort. It was difficult to determine what role everyone plays, but ultimately, it seemed that the couple in the story was the target, as was Avery, but for very different reasons. In the end, it was no coincidence that they ended up working together and many people did not turn out to be who I thought they were. The result was a suspenseful read that surprised me and really held my interest!
