meowbox is a monthly subscription box for cats filled with fun, unique toys, and natural, grain-free, organic, and/or locally-made treats.

FYI, COVID-19 Update: meowbox is currently experiencing some shipping delays. Please allow an extra 5-7 days for delivery! Also, one item from the box was a bit late from the manufacturer this month, so it shipped about a week later than usual.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

They even put your cats' names inside the lid!

meowbox December 2020 Review

meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a winter theme.

On to the items:

Festive Forest Friend Cat Toy

This is a small, soft toy with a rattle inside. And FEATHERS. Feathers are always good. This one rolls fairly well but not 100% predictably when cats bat it around, which makes it more interesting. Or they could be like Monkey and just rub their heads on it repeatedly. Whatever works!

Crochet Kitty 'Frannie the Figgy Pudding' Cat Toy – Retail Value $5.00

I thought this was a poop emoji at first…but anyway, this is a small, tossable toy, also with feathers. And, it’s quiet! So this one is in the bedroom as I don’t care if the cats find it at night. The feathers were the favorite feature among my cats. This one is also soft and has a somewhat similar texture to the one above.

Yappetizers Winner Winner Turkey Dinner Cat Treats (20g) – Retail Value $4.00

These are freeze-dried turkey hearts. You will have to break them into very tiny pieces for your cats to eat as they are large and a little hard (though they soften up when they get wet). I did leave them intact for taking photos because photos of cats biting things are funny. (And yes, you can see some below.)

Kitten Mittens Cat Toy

These are stuffing-free and have crinkle paper in them so they are noisy and not bedroom toys. (I put toys like this in my home office, where the cats sometimes spend time and can make all the noise they want because it’s not near the bedroom.) They’re not precisely a dangler toy but you can kind of use them that way because of the string attaching the two mittens (which is really quite thick and appears to be safe as well).

Holly Bow Wand Cat Toy

You’ll usually get a wand or a dangler toy in this box. This month it was a wand and Sneaky was quite a fan of the wand. It was a good length of wand and an appropriate length of string. (You’d think that would be hard to mess up but some wands are way too short for the amount of string you get.) This was the most overtly holiday sort of thing in the box, I thought, but could also work for just winter, because holly berries don’t all drop off the bush on December 26th. Although the toy is made up of several parts (berries, leaves, feathery stuff) it seemed quite sturdy.

Kitty pictures:

(Madison is black, Sneaky is calico, and Monkey is tan and white.)

Verdict: I couldn't calculate a total value for December’s meowbox because the items weren't all yet for sale in their shop. The treats were a little difficult for my cats to eat although they did like biting them. The wand was a hit and everything else got at least some immediate interest and will likely get more in the coming days. I appreciate the different toy textures and all the feathers (as did my cats). I would say this was a fairly average month for this subscription – lots of cute items that fit a theme and were actually interesting to cats (even seniors like my crew)!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It is too late for the December box, so your subscription would likely start with the January box.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the subscription plus free shipping, you are paying approximately $4.59 per item.

Cats biting things needs to be a coffee book!

I could fill an entire book with pictures of Sneaky biting rubber and silicone objects. I used to have a silicone door stopper and she would steal it from under the door and run off with it.

I’m sorry if I’m repeating myself, but this review is my favorite on MSA, and I will always come back for it. Thank you for brightening our day, Regan!

I agree, I adore the reviews of cat stuff, and love the pictures of the kitties! This box is one I haven’t tried yet (I love kitnip box and Cat Lady box), but it is on my list to try! Thanks for all the great reviews and kitty pictures Ragan! Please keep them coming!
