Too Faced Cyber Monday Mystery Grab Bag Review

Too Faced Damn Girl! Mascara , .43 fl oz (full size) - Retail value $26

This is a new mascara from Too Faced; it released in June. Right away, the wand reminded me of their classic Better Than Sex Mascara, but definitely amped up. It's as if they scaled up the BTS mascara wand because it's basically the same shape but bigger. It holds a LOT of product on it, but it didn't seem to clump upon application as long as I swiped excess product off the tip. Unfortunately, the size of the wand just felt pretty clumsy to me and makes it a little more difficult to get the tiny lashes on the inner or outer edges of my lash line. The formula is definitely a solid, opaque black and it coats my lashes quickly and builds well with a second coat. They marketed this as being really revolutionary, but it didn't blow my mind and I think I prefer a smaller wand. I'll definitely use it, though.

Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter in Blinded by the Light, 9g (full size) - Retail value: $30

This is a pretty highlighter! It doesn't come across as glittery at all. It's not overpowering - with a fluffy brush, this blends very well! Additionally, it is versatile because you can build it up for some major glow or you can use a light hand for some more natural highlighting.

Rich & Dazzling High-Shine Sparkling Lip Gloss in Sunset Crush, .12 oz (sample size) - Estimated retail value $10.56 (Buy a .25 oz full size for $22)

I was uncertain about this lip gloss initially, because of the high shine and almost holographic shimmer, but it's actually very pretty! (You'll see this on my face below.) It comes across more subtle than it looks like it would in the tube, and it isn't sticky!

Too Faced Damn Girl! Shamelessly Extra Hair Pin Set - Retail value $19

These are swag, I assume, to go with their new mascara. Unfortunately, these are just not my style. They have a good weight to them but I really don't think my fine, straight hair would have enough texture to keep these in if I tried. Honestly, I don't see this being a winning item for most people who got this box - I won't be alone in wishing this was just any kind of cosmetic instead.

Pretty Rich Diamond Light Eyeshadow Palette - Retail value $49 (currently on sale for $29.40)

Here's the "hero" item of this kit! This eye shadow palette has 16 different shadows with various finishes (glitter, shimmer, and matte). I like the colors a lot! Too Faced generally has very good pigmentation, and that holds up here. There are 4-5 really glittery shades, and most of those feel a little hard to work with. You'll want to use a primer on your lids to grab the product (Too Faced makes a glitter-specific eye primer) and to apply your foundation/concealer after your eye shadow to avoid having a bunch of glitter on your cheeks. The mattes seem a little powdery, too, so make sure that you tap off excess. Additionally, there are a couple of shadows that are really close to other shadows in the same palette. Honestly, overall, this is not my favorite palette from Too Faced. It's still decent, though, and has a large number of colors to play with and you can get a lot of different looks out of it. If you like the colors in this palette, I would say it's a good buy for the sale price that they have it for right now.

Here are swatches of the eye shadows! First, the top 2 rows, then the bottom 2 rows. Also, every Too Faced palette comes with idea cards with step-by-step walkthroughs of a few different looks. These are always helpful! When I worked at Sephora, these booklets were why I always recommended Too Faced palettes to people who were newer to makeup or wanted more confidence to experiment. Plus, they give me new ideas or color combinations I may not have thought to try.

Here, I'm wearing the mascara, lip gloss, eye shadow, and highlighter - admittedly, I used a very light hand with the highlighter and I realize that it really isn't that noticeable in photos. (Guys, I was timid because it's been so long since I've done a full face including any kind of contour or highlighter thanks to 2020! Haha.) I love the way the lip gloss looks! And for my eyes, I applied Princess Cut (row 2, column 2) all over my lids, Fancy That (row 1, column 3) in my crease, and Oh, That's Rich (row 3, column 4) on my outer corners. I really like how they look together!

Verdict: All in all, I'm quite happy with this year's Too Faced Cyber Monday Mystery Bag! I generally love Too Faced cosmetics, so I knew this would be a pretty safe bet for me. The only downsides for me, really, are the fact that the overall style of the design aesthetic is not one I would naturally gravitate towards, and the hairpins are a bit of a letdown, personally. Even if I liked them, my hair is just not the right type to hold them. That being said, the entire box costs $42, and the palette alone sells for $49. So it's like you could look at it as buying a decent palette (or the palette's sale price + the travel-sized lip gloss) and getting some nice full-sized extras! The total value adds up to $134.56, which is the promised retail value.

I’d recently gotten The Halloween Laura Geller mystery box (two actually, a 10pc and 7pc, did end up with a few repeats between them) when this came out, so didn’t grab it, but I did have some FOMO and wondered if I’d regret not getting it! I do like Too Faced, it was one of the first brands I was really into when I first got into make-up. I’m glad I didn’t get this – the palette and lip gloss would have been nice, but I don’t wear cursewords in my hair, lol. Also I don’t wear mascara much.

So it’s good I went with the Geller box. It didn’t have an eyeshadow palette, but was over $200 in value and had this very cool “Shades of Mauve” face palette in it that can be used for lip/cheek/eye. Now that I’m in my late thirties, different brands are better for my skin – TooFaced doesn’t work as well for me as it used to, though I still wear some of the eyeshadows (Socialite is so gorgeous.)

“I don’t wear curse words in my hair” is hilarious. I agree, those pins are incredibly tacky.

I rarely do make up mystery boxes any more because I don’t deviate my look. But I absolutely love reading these reviews 👍

You look great!

I wanted that palette forever and finally bought it a few months back when it was discounted as part of a bundle for like $28. I read bad reviews of it, but didn’t listen. I absolutely hate it and have barely used it. The shades are great, but the formula is so bad. I haven’t tried the mascara and lip gloss yet.

This is the first eyeshadow palette I’ve seen all year that is NOT loaded with oranges. What a great bunch of WEARABLE colors!

I love that mascara (and it looks great on you!), but you’re right, it takes me forever to apply because I am trying not to bump my eyelids with the huge applicator.
