Julep Night Fright Mystery Box Review

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Blush 1

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Blush 2

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Blush 3

Crème-To-Powder Blush Stick in Moonlit Sand, Full-Size! Retail Value $24

The crème-to-powder blush sticks are always super creamy and easy to blend, and this one is no exception. Moonlit Sand is a gorgeous shade of rose gold shimmer, and I will actually be using this as a highlighter rather than a blush. This would also be really pretty dabbed onto your lids for a soft eyeshadow!

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Eyeliner 1

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Eyeliner 2

When Pencil Met Gel Eyeliner in Electric Teal Shimmer, Full-Size! Retail Value $16

This gel pencil eyeliner is so creamy, and the bright teal shimmer is a gorgeous shade I am happy to have. The pencil is very soft, so go in with a light hand when applying.

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Swatch

Here is the eyeliner swatched above the blush stick.

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Stickers 1

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Stickers 2

Silver Halloween Nail Stickers – Estimated Value $4

I love nail stickers because they are a great way for both quick and cute nail art. This sheet features things likes spiders, snakes, and bones, and they lifted from the sheet easily while sticking well to the nail.

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Delia 1

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Delia 2

Julep Nail Polish in Delia, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

Delia is a “Nocturnal purple iridescent shimmer,” and while that is a mouthful I would say that description is pretty accurate. I was happy with the formula, but the brush felt a little off. I am not fully sure how to describe it, but it was almost rough in distributing the polish.

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Sam 1

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Sam 2

Julep Nail Polish in Sam, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

Sam is a limeade crème that really gives off Franken vibes- this is a color that's perfect for Halloween, but Halloween is about the only time I'll probably wear it. I found the formula to be pretty thick, which means it needed a long time to dry and I wasn't happy with how difficult it was to work with.

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Aradia 1

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Aradia

Julep Nail Polish in Aradia, Full-Size! Estimated Value $14

Aradia is a brand new matte jagged glitter top coat that isn’t available online yet. This has both bar glitter chunks as well as jagged pieces, and while it is designed to be a matte top coat I really think it needs to be sealed with a top coat to smooth out all of the glitter.

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Fleur 1

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Fleur 2

Julep Nail Polish in Fleur, Full-Size! Retail Value $14 (currently out of stock)

Fleur is a black jelly polish filled with blue and green glitters, but unfortunately, the way the polish is formulated makes it hard to actually see the glitters. I liked this polish more in theory than I did in real life.

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Nail Swatch

Here are the swatches! From top to bottom we have Aradia, Delia, Sam, and Fleur.

Julep Night Fright Mystery - Julep Nail Art

Here is some simple nail art I did trying to combine the items in the box. I topped Sam with one coat of Aradia and used some of the silver stickers on top of Delia.

The Verdict: When I first opened the box I thought I received three black nail polishes, and it wasn’t until I swatched them that I realized how different they were! It is a bit of a bummer that the formula and brushes on some of the polishes weren’t up to the standard that I hold Julep to, but overall it was still a good mix. I also really love the makeup products included, but I question if they belong in a Halloween themed box compared to a summer or spring box. Overall, Julep promised a value of $100, and without my guesstimate for the nail stickers the retail value adds up to $96. I think $4 is a fair value for the nail stickers, so I would say that Julep did meet their promised value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is sold out.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $29.98 ($24.99 + $4.99 shipping), and I calculated an estimated value of $100. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Blush: $7.19
  • Eyeliner: $4.79
  • Stickers: $1.20
  • Delia: $4.20
  • Sam: $4.20
  • Aradia: $4.20
  • Fleur: $4.20

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I was disappointed by this box. Fleur is a color that has been in multiple promotional discount sales at this point. Feels like they are just trying to get rid of it (no surprise there, considering the formula). Teal eyeliner & peach blush do NOT fit the “fright night” theme, in my opinion.

I personally never would have liked this box, but I think it sticks to a Halloween theme as much as you can with nail art. Glad they omitted the orange, I don’t think that would make a good nail color (personal opinion). My favorite is the Arcadia. I like it over the other colors. I think someone who is big into Halloween would love this box. Thanks for sampling the items and getting creative with them.

Yellow polishes tend to be problematic in general, so not a surprise this was too. Fun box, shame the formulas of the other blacks wasn’t better.

I only got three polishes! I thought it was kind of light for a julep mystery box. Oh well.

See which color you are missing and call customer service. The mystery boxes were all the same. They are great at making things right!

I got this box variation too. I thought I would end up swapping the blush and eyeliner, but I actually really like them both and am keeping them. I LOVE the jagged glitter; I used mine over the green color as well.

Those are so cute! I love that you give examples of how the products can actually be used.

I’ve never even seen or heard of that jagged glitter before, but it’s perfect for Halloween.
