Sweet Sparkle December 2017 Review
This month has lips and eyes covered with a little skincare product thrown in. Let’s see what we’ve got!
Each month, an info card is included with an intro to the theme and the product names, descriptions, and retail values. This month’s theme is Shimmer Wonderland.
Thrive Cosmetics Triple Threat Color Stick in Joy (Rose Gold Shimmer) - Retail Value $36
I have been using this same color stick from a different box and I’m happy to receive another one. I love it for brightening the corners of my eyes and under my brows. It is subtle and blends right into my skin. Plus, Thrive is vegan, cruelty-free, and socially responsible. I honestly don’t use the brush at the other end of the stick because I like the way the product spreads with my fingertips. Oh, and great high-value product inclusion too!
Eddie Funkhouser Hyperreal Eye Color Palette in Ultimate Smokey Eye - Retail Value $14.99
I really like all of the shades in this palette and how they work together. The lightest shade has a more sheer appearance than the others. The one shimmer shade, the rosey toned one, is my favorite and is so velvety. The two dark shades can be layered to build up from a neutral to a dramatic smokey eye.
Jontéblu Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Black - Retail Value $6
This is a traditional eyeliner pencil that has a carbon-black matte finish. It is easy to work with and is super smudge proof. This is perfect for tight-lining my lashes without worrying about it creeping into my eyes and causing the dreaded black ring around the contacts. Am I the only one who can never find my sharpener though? Ugh.
Lucie + Pompette Créme de Paris in Cha Cha (matte orange-red) - Retail Value $18
A true orange-red with a very matte finish, this lip color goes on smooth and opaque. My lips feel comfortable and the color sticks around even through eating with only slight fading. I probably wouldn’t have picked this color for me but I really like it, especially for spring. The twist up packaging is nice for ease of filling in lips but I would recommend doing your initial lining with a lip brush unless you have a nice, steady hand.
Double Dare OMG! 4in1 Kit Zone System Mask - Retail Value $7
Oh! This multi-step mask makes my mask game feel so advanced. I love the packaging and that the instructions are very clear. Step 1 is applying the 24k gold eye patches (bougie, no?). Step 2 is the t-zone charcoal mask to deep clean and reduce the appearance of pores. Step 3, u-zone kaolin clay mask to help tighten and tone the cheeks and jaw. These stay on for 15 minutes, then wash off. The moisture finishing cream replenishes and hydrates after all of that toning. This mask kit left my face feeling balanced and fresh without feeling too dry. I like that it has just enough in the packets for each area of the face.
All of the items swatched from top to bottom: eyeliner, color stick, lip color, and eyeshadow palette.
Here I’ve done my version of “Glimmer Wonderland”. I used the eyeshadow palette to create a simple contoured eye. I should have primed my lid first, I think the colors would have blended better. I lined my eyes with the eyeliner and smudged them a bit with the darkest shadow shade. Then I popped a little Joy (the color stick) in the corners of my eye and tops of my cheekbones. I finished off the look by using Cha Cha to line and fill my lips.
I like the pop of color with the subdued eye look. If I were to go full smokey eye, I would probably wear a matte nude lip color so my eyes would be the focal point.
The Verdict: Sweet Sparkle’s “Shimmer Wonderland” box has a value of $81.99 plus free shipping. I’m really liking the increased value this month and enjoyed receiving a skincare product. My favorite items are the Thrive color stick and lip color. All of the items, as always, are full-sized and coordinated to create an entire look. I like that Sweet Sparkle makes a point to provide subscribers with everything needed for the themed look and even give some inspiration on the info card. I’d love to see a tutorial included to help those who need some guidance or want to try new techniques. Hopefully, next month will continue to include higher quality items and maybe even another mask.
