Snack Crate January 2018 Stickers

There was an awesome surprise when I first opened this box: stickers! These are so cool-looking, and the colors are the best. I also liked the pamphlet inside that guides you through all of the snacks for this month. This month my snacks are from the Philippines; after this, the box countries will be randomly selected.

Boy Bawang, Garlic Flavor bag front

Boy Bawang, Garlic Flavor - Buy 3, 3.54 oz. bags for $8.50

These are a delightful corn nut snack with a great garlicky flavor. They smell really intensely of garlic when the bag is opened, but thankfully their taste is more subtle. I liked these a lot! The crunch was really satisfying and they had a nice element of salt that made them really addictive.

Coffee Candy

Coffee Candy plated

Coffee Candy, 5 pieces - Buy 150 pieces for $13.11

These were so, so good in theory. I love coffee, and I’m always intrigued by coffee-flavored, caffeinated candies. These were a nice size and I was excited to try them, but they sadly disappointed me a bit. These tasted like coffee at first, but they had a strange aftertaste that made me not want to finish them.

Philippine Brand Dried Mangoes bag front

Philippine Brand Dried Mangoes plated

Philippine Brand Dried Mangoes, 3.5 oz. - Buy for $3.26

I liked that there was a sweet snack in this box that wasn’t candy or cookies, but boy, these were sweet! They’re definitely still a treat, even though they’re a bit more virtuous than the typical snacks found in boxes like these. There was a lot of sugar on this fruit, but it kept the fruit incredibly soft. The texture of these was so soft and fresh!

Oh, chocolate pretzels. I wanted to love you. But these were just sweet cracker-y sticks that weren’t pretzels at all, and they weren’t incredibly tasty, either. The chocolate was a nice even coating, but it wasn’t a very chocolatey flavor. Alas! I’m still glad I tried them.

Ube Cake package front

Ube Cake, 0.70 oz. - Buy a 10-count for $3.54

I was so excited to see a snack made with the pretty purple yam ube! These cakes smell like heaven, sweet and buttery. They don’t have a ton of flavor beyond their richness, but I didn’t mind. The color is so pretty, and they’re nice and soft. I bet one of these would be awesome with tea, but they were good all on their own.

King Choco Nut

King Choco Nut plated

King Choco Nut, 8 pieces - Buy a 7.76 oz. bag for $2.73

I loooove all the ingredients in this candy, but these were not for me! The coconut milk and chocolate flavor of these were awesome, but the texture for me was a bit off. They were granular, like fudge, which I actually don’t like all that well. I liked the peanut element of these, but the texture was a deal-breaker for me. I can certainly see why they’re popular though, and I’m sure some of my friends will dig them a lot.

Choco Mallow wrapped

Choco Mallow plated

Choco Mallow, 1 piece - Buy a 10-pack of 6 pieces for $24.99

One of these little guys ended up in my box! It was sweet and the marshmallow layer was spongy, with a crispy cookie on the bottom layer. The chocolate was sweet, but not too sweet. It reminded me of a few kinds of American snacks, but the marshmallow layer of these was so unique!

Verdict: I love trying international snacks, and Snack Crate provided a lot of new flavors! I liked that there was a snack with ube in it, the garlic corn nuts were delicious, and even the snacks that weren’t my favorite were a lot of fun to try. I also love that these snack boxes are going to be from all different countries, and I’m really looking forward to a journey to a brand-new country next time.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! You have to sign up by the 5th of the month to get your Snack Crate, but when you do, you can choose among three countries for your first box, and the Philippines is one of them.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $14, which means that each of the 7 kinds of items cost $2. Having this box curated and the products sent directly from the country of origin really adds to the value.

Wow, they keep charging your account each month, and you haven’t received anything?…I suggests, if you haven’t already, to notify your bank of the transactions continously being made from this company.

The roasted chicken flavor, Lechon Manak is the best. Its salty and garlicky and kinda sweet. I must warn you that they cut up your mouth. Also all of these items can be purchased at your local Asian market. I’m not Phillipino but I have a ton of friends who are. One brought me back Cornick and I loved it so much that i found a store that sells it near me. They sell all the other snacks too.

Can I provide negative stars? Was so excited to get my box from the UK but this company without notice sent me a box from the Philippines. Then had the nerve to say they emailed me when they did not, now they refuse to refund me and just stole 60 bucks even after I return the stupid box unopened. This company steals your money and gives you incorrect items stating just our return to sender on the box we’ll refund you, nope they take the box back and never refund you. CrooIs

This cost way too much for way too little I got stuck with a six-month subscription WHICH IS MANDATORY and I lost 200 dollars. ALSO if you want to get out of the subscription BEFORE 6 months are over you pay 15 dollars so have with the barely edible snacks.

For those who may be thinking of purchasing snackcrate….most of the snacks were good, however out of our first 3 boxes we had at least 3 snacks past their expiration by at least 2 months. Snack crate will suggest that in other countries label it differently for example DD/MM/YY , I know the difference. If they weren’t stale and old, I would say ehh who cares. Also, after reviewing my experience on their website they deleted my review, so now all they have are 100% good reviews and not 100% honest because they will be removed. :/

Our family loves snackcrate, however we have found that about half of the products are expired….

They make it purposely very difficult to cancel your subscription before 6 months ($150!) and hide negative posts on their facebook page.

Beware trying out this shady company!

I’ve been subscribed to SnackCrate for almost a year now and LOVE every month. It’s really fun and a subscription box that the whole family can really get into and I appreciate that. I also would recommend upgrading the box, we usually stay at the original crate but if the next month seems more intriguing I totally upgrade that months to the premium crate! I’ve only talked with customer service once, but they were super prompt and addressed the issue in like 3 minutes. We now shop regularly at our international food stores to find snacks we’ve discovered =)

Upgrading to the premium crate is 100% worth it. Also, it is $49.00 month to month, but you can get the premium crate WITH the drink upgrade for $46.00/month ($41 without drink) if you sign up for the year plan, and you don’t pay for the whole year up front, you just pay your $46.00 monthly. With any plan, even the year plan, you can pause for the month easily if you don’t want that particular country or if funds are tight or whatever reason, which is really cool! I was originally subscribed to the regular subscription, but we upgraded to the premium after our first box, it’s been like two years and SnackCrate is a permanent part of our monthly budget now! Haha.
