SnackSack includes a pamphlet that notes all of the products that are within the box, along with how to find them online.

They’ve also included a coupon for Beanitos, one of the brands whose snacks are featured in this month’s box.

Above is a tri-fold pamphlet highlighting another one of the brands included this month.

Every first-time customer receives a tote (sack), which is meant to hold your snacks. It’s a cute, on-theme concept, and I can definitely see myself carrying my lunch and a snack or two to work in this tote. It also comes with a little waffle button pinned to it!

Before we jump in, I’d like to note that many of the snacks in this month’s SnackSack Gluten-Free box were also included in the November SnackSack Classic box. I’ll make note of which items those are as we go.

B.O.S.S. Food Co. Raw Superfood Bar, 1.7 oz. – Retail Value $3.39

Ah, raw superfood bars. I’m forever on the fence about these things. I want to love them since they’re probably the healthiest version of a granola bar, but they just aren’t that exciting to me. This one is gluten-free and vegan, and its greatest perk (in my opinion) is that its bits ‘n’ pieces of seeds and nuts and fruits are chopped up really tiny, so you aren’t left chewing each bite for 5 solid minutes. That might sound like a silly attribute to favor in a granola bar, but I’m coming at it from the angle of a hiker/backpacker who has experience with struggling to chew granola bars when the mileage gets up to those mid-teens! While this bar isn’t as sweet as many, I don’t think I could eat more than a few bites at a time. But, it would be good to snack on throughout the day!

Beanitos Original Black Bean Chips, 1.2 oz. – Buy a 24-pack for $23.92

Are chips and salsa the perfect snack or what? I don’t indulge in ’em all that often, but I would way more if I had a steady stream of these black bean chips on supply. Often times, chips that broadcast themselves as being made with an alternative, healthier ingredient still feature the one you’re trying to avoid at the top of the list. Not the case here! This gluten-free, non-GMO snack’s ingredients include black beans, sunflower oil, long grain rice, and sea salt. And, with 1 bag equaling 1 serving size, it’s awesome to be able to munch away with reckless abandon and not have to worry about going overboard! Flavor-wise, these chips don’t taste like beans at all; they’re pretty similar to a classic tortilla chip, but maybe a bit duller. Consistency-wise, they’re just as crunchy as they should be!

Organic Grounded Snacks Red Rice & Quinoa Chips, 1.5 oz. – Buy a 5.5 oz. bag for $3.99

Here’s another awesome, delicious tortilla chip. It’s non-GMO and certified organic, though its top two ingredients are rice flour, so while it’s gluten-free, it’s not grain-free. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about these chips! First of all, they’re pink, which is delightful, but they’re also light, crunchy, and salty. So good!

The GFB Cranberry Toasted Almond Bar, 2.05oz. – Retail Value $1.99

I can’t say this bar looks exactly appetizing to me, though I guess if you’re super into Airheads or something else with a gummy shine to it, you might feel differently. When I bit in, though, this gluten-free bar was nutty, sweet, and soft with a little crunch. The most noticeable flavor to me was almond—but more like almond extract than raw almonds. It was much more enjoyable than I expected, but the flavor was rich, so I only took a few bites before packing it away in my cupboard to finish another time.

Prince of Peace Ginger Chews, 4.4 oz. – Buy a 12 oz. bag for $1.99

Ginger, yum! I often buy a few inches of ginger at the grocery store to throw into recipes or mix into cold remedy concoctions when needed. This Thanksgiving I even made my pumpkin pie with gingersnap crust, which involved pieces of real-deal ginger! All that said, I’m not much of a candy person, and especially not a gummy candy person. So, while the flavor of these chews was really wonderful, rich, and authentic tasting—mercifully lacking an artificial ginger flavoring—the way they stuck in my teeth made me kind of just want to spit them out. When I took my first bite, it reminded me of the way Swedish Fish stretch when you bite into them, but, like, on steroids. I have a few friends in mind who would think of such an experience as heavenly! I might gift the rest of this bag to them, or just keep it on hand for when they come over. For those keeping track, these chews are gluten-free and vegan. Woo!

Popchips Buffalo Ranch Ridges, 0.7 oz. – Retail Value $1.49

These dang chips are blowing my mind. The buffalo ranch flavor is seriously spot on! They have a nice spice to them, without being overpowering and ruining your life. They are potato chips, so not the world’s most healthy snack, but they’re gluten-free, non-GMO, and popped instead of being fried. I don’t fully understand this concept, but I like it! Not quite as crunchy as the real deal, but the flavor completely makes up for it. Also, my hands weren’t orange after eating these. Which means my jeans weren’t either. And that makes me happy.

Little Secrets Peppermint Dark Chocolate Candies, 5 oz. – Retail Value $5.94

Now these candies, on the other hand, are totally my bag. I am a chocolate-lover through and through, and especially a dark chocolate-lover, so these already had that going for them. Add a hint of mint in, and these babies are pure gold. They’re non-GMO, gluten-free, and made from fair trade cacao…am I the only one who thinks things taste better when they’re ethically harvested? Like the Air Cheese, this snack’s bag is resealable—win! Though, this is one treat I would definitely eat ’til the bag’s empty if I didn’t have an angel on my shoulder stopping me!

Nothing But the Fruit Raspberry Chia Fruit Bites, 1 oz. – Buy an 8 count box for $10.32

Oh my, these are so scrumptious! They taste like little bits of jam! They’re small and soft enough that you can pop a few in your mouth at a time and experience a nice boost of sweetness without having to worry too much about your chompers getting stuck together. The chia and raspberry seeds add a hint of crunch to this snack, which makes a really satisfying sound, haha. I found a few lingering chia seeds in my molars after eating a few of these cubes (and, for those of you who know chia seeds, you know they turn into a gel-like orb after soaking for awhile), but that was no biggie to me. These guys are non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan.

Laughing Giraffe Organics Salted Caramel Snakaroon, 0.5 oz. – Buy a 6 oz. bag for $5.52

I’ve had similar snacks to this coconut ball from different brands before, and I find that they often taste about the same, no matter the flavor. Probably because coconut is the main ingredient, which is hard to mask with other tastes. This salted caramel one was delish, though I didn’t get a strong caramel-y nor salty tone from it. The consistency of this little snack is grainy and soft. It’s pretty good! It’s also non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, and certified organic. Ticks all the boxes!

The Protein Ball Co. Coconut & Macadamia Balls, 45g – Retail Value $2.68 USD (found on sale here for $2.01 USD)

I’ve made protein balls similar to these non-GMO, gluten-free ones at home, but none were as smooth and compact. They aren’t hugely flavorful…they’re nutty and a little protein powder-ish tasting, but otherwise no one flavor really stood out to me. I enjoyed them, but wouldn’t rush to buy them again.

Munk Pack Double Dark Chocolate Protein Cookie, 2.96 oz. – Retail Value $2.79

If I were to choose the snack in this box that’s closest to perfection, it would be this amazing chocolate cookie. You already know I’m a chocolate-lover, so this double-chocolate cookie—which is non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan, by the way—is pretty much heaven. It’s got a very soft, almost cake-like consistency to it, and somehow lacks that not-so-great protein powder aftertaste that prevents many-a-granola-bar from being epic. I swear I detected a faint peanut butter flavor in this cookie, and while nut butter isn’t on the ingredients list, the package does state that it contains peanuts and almonds. I can totally see myself buying a few of these “healthy” cookies to have on hand.

Air Cheese Crunchy Cheddar Bites, 1.42 oz. – Estimated Value $3.00

Weird and seemingly niche as it is, this is a snack I’ve actually tried before, but from a different brand. I couldn’t find pricing or a place to purchase Air Cheese online, but according to the Specialty Food Association, this product entered the market in March of 2017. Maybe that’s why—it’s just too new. I first tried these on a backpacking trip after REI’s product placement in the check-out line appealed to my hunger, haha. As a die-hard cheese-lover, I was skeptical that these would taste fake and freak me out, but that is not the case! The consistency is a little crunch and rather dense, and the flavor is super authentically cheddar-y! I considered that maybe my desperation for something other than a granola bar on the trail made me like this snack more, but now that I’m tasting it in the comfort of my dining room, I can safely say they’re just straight-up delish. The serving size is 1 bag, but that would be insane—like I said, they’re dense—which I guess the makers of this snack realized later down the line because they fixed us up with a resealable bag. I’m always appreciative of the resealable bag!

Verdict: I’m a newb to SnackSack, and I had a really positive experience! I love that each and every one of the gluten-free treats included is non-GMO, vegan, or organic—or all of the above!—so I can munch without guilt, and enjoy some of my favorite flavors in a more healthy way.

  1. I think the Munk Pack protein cookies taste good because they’re like 400 calories each…I haven’t had that one, but I’ve had a couple of others.

    • Haha, you make a great point! And, the 16g of sugar (8g per serving, which is half the cookie, but who is really eating only half of a cookie in one sitting?) doesn’t hurt, either!
