Cat ‘n Around Owl Refillable Catnip Toy – Value $3.60 (on sale; MSRP $4.50)
I am pretty sure I have this same toy somewhere, but if you saw the mountains of cat toys at my house, you’d understand why I don’t know where the old one is. Anyway, I filled this up with catnip and gave it to Monkey and he licked it until it was wet. My cats have not shown a lot of interest in refillable toys in the past but perhaps the catnip was fresher this time?
Spot (Ethical) Whiskins Felt Streamers – Value $6.08
Several cats expressed interest in this toy. We are familiar with this brand but this particular product line is new to us. This is a nice, small felt catnip toy with streamers (the streamers were my cats’ favorite part, and the smaller toys are usually more popular with my crew).
Fruitables Wildly Natural Cat Treats in Free Range Chicken Flavor (2.5 oz) – Value $2.75
This was my cats’ favorite item from the box this month. They are very small, hard treats. Sneaky, Madison, and Angus appreciated them. (Monkey is not very food-motivated and Mr. Kitty can’t have chicken.) Most of these will end up going to Sneaky; we bribe her with treats before forcing her asthma inhaler on her.
Petstages Feather Toucan – Value $5.99
Angus liked this a lot. It is another catnip plush but it has FEATHERS and feathers are nearly always popular with my crew. The feathers did survive an Angus play session so I would say this was well made.
Multipet Bird Kuddlerz – Value $4.99?
This item seems to be discontinued or possibly seasonal (e.g., for Easter) so I had a hard time finding it online. I used the value from a similar toy made by the same manufacturer. This is a rather large, stuffed toy (see the size in context with Monkey below) and my cats haven’t shown much interest in it yet. However, I am leaving it out on the floor because Angus does like big toys sometimes and he will “discover” something new nearly every day. I may spray it with catnip spray or leave it in a Ziplock baggie with fresh catnip for awhile to spur some additional interest.
Angus tries a treat. He liked these.
Angus with a few of the toys from the box. He was tossing these around but the camera kept being like 1 second too late.
Madison WOULD NOT come out from under the bed. I tried, but this was the best I could do. At least he liked the treats!
Monkey didn’t want to play, but he was happy to pose for the camera. He did lick the owl toy until it was wet, so that’s something. (Cats can be moody.)
I’m honestly surprised I didn’t end up bleeding after taking these photos.
Mr. Kitty is grumpy because he didn’t get to try the treats. (Yes, his eye discharge is a little worse than usual. We are monitoring this and he has an appointment with the veterinary ophthalmologist pretty soon, too.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of $23.41 for the August Pet GiftBox for cats. That is pretty close to the cost of the box on a month-to-month basis. Using our MSA50 coupon or purchasing a multi-month subscription will make this one a better value, too. Most of the toys were hits this month and the treats were much better than usual, so my kitties were happy. (With cat subscription boxes, it definitely helps to have multiple cats, because then nearly everything is awesome for at least one cat.)
