The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online. This month’s theme was “Camping.”

KitNipBox - Camping - August 2017 Cat Subscription Box

‘R Squad Camping Fun Catnip Tent Pillow – Listed Value $5

This is a larger toy, more of the kicker or wrestler style (but far from the biggest one I’ve seen). It does also have some catnip in it. My older cats are not so interested in toys like this, but I often catch Angus playing with them. This moved in the night one night (Angus does that) so I’m guessing he had fun with it.

Think Cat! Roasty Toasty Fire Toy – Listed Value $5

This is another stuffed catnip toy. It’s made from several layers of felt and it’s a bit smaller than the tent, as you can see. For some reason, my cats just really wanted to rub their chins on this. Well, whatever works!

Safemade Wild Duck – Listed Value $5

Safemade is a brand you’ll see a lot of in KitNipBox (but not really outside KitNipBox). This is a plush catnip toy and several of my older cats were interested enough to give it a sniff. (Of course, as usual, Angus played with it the most…)

LEAP Frog Prince – Listed Value $5

I think this is cute; it’s another plush catnip toy but it has flat arms and legs of a different material and I think my cats really liked the texture of the arms and legs. This is one to watch for damage; I can see cats wanting to chew on the limbs. But so far, it has held up.

My Little Lion Captain Cod Treats – Value $3.99

These are soft treats that are grain free. (They do have some sweet potato.) I am always excited to see this brand in cat subscription boxes because these are some of my cats’ favorite treats lately. I think the cod flavor is new to us but it doesn’t smell too fishy. Mr. Kitty can’t have these but everyone else thought they were pretty awesome.

Flappy Feather Wand – Listed Value $7

Lately, KitNipBox has been sending lots and lots of dangly toys on sticks, and I am totally OK with that. My cats love dangly toys on sticks. Even Sneaky will play with them, and she has been very grumpy lately. This one has held up pretty well so far – the feathers are still attached!

Handmade Catnip Sleeping Bag by The Vegan Cat – Listed Value $6

This company has an Etsy store, but this toy is not in it. (I’m sure I found the right place as there are other toys made in a similar way, I’m just not sure of a size comparison so I’m using the value from the information card.) Anyway, this is a handmade catnip toy with a small amount of stuffing. Sneaky kept sniffing at this; she was clearly interested. Monkey wasn’t really in the mood to play when I was taking pictures, but I expect he will like the texture when he eventually discovers this. This is smaller than most kicker/wrestler toys, though a fair amount larger than your typical catnip mouse.

Gratuitous cat photo time:

Angus eats a treat.  (FYI, the virus that gives him eye discharge is not treatable, but neither is it particularly harmful.  We are keeping close watch and the vet knows all about it.  It’s probably because he was fostered in a home with lots of other cats before I got him.)

Angus really likes dangly toys on sticks. I took a lot of pictures of him attacking the feathers, but most didn’t look that great. It was funnier when I set the toy down and he kept trying to pick it up on his own.

Madison eats a treat.

Something about this toy made it very desirable for a chin rubbing device. Both Monkey and Madison did that.

Monkey also rubs his chin on the campfire toy.

These treats were very popular. Sneaky is gloating because she will get most of these (we use them to lure her into the bathroom before she gets her asthma inhaler).

Sneaky bites a stick!

I like to pretend he could see this but I doubt it. I think he was just reacting to the sound.

And Mr. Kitty gets back to his favorite activity, sleeping in the sunny window.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $37 for the August KitNipBox. That’s over the month-to-month cost of the subscription, which is nice, plus these are mostly items you won’t see in stores – they’re not the same exact things you see in lots of other cat subscription boxes. I think the favorite toy among my crew was the feather wand. The treats were also super popular. I think it helps, with cat subscriptions, if you have a lot of cats covering a range of ages. Then every item is more likely to get played with by some cat or another. That was definitely the case here.
