Bulu Box Weight Loss July 2017

Bulu Box has changed their information cards again, as well as the boxes. There was also some product literature. And a coupon for a free pint of Halo Top ice cream. These are making the rounds of the fitness subscription boxes lately but I am not sad about that at all. I think that stuff is great and I’m eating a fair amount of it since I had oral surgery last week and am stuck with soft foods for now.

Bulu Box Weight Loss July 2017

Banza Chickpea Pasta Mac and Cheese Deluxe (7.7 oz) – Value $4.17 (buy 6 boxes for $25)

I’ve had Banza pasta (specifically one of their macaroni and cheese products) before thanks to Love with Food. And boxed macaroni and cheese is my favorite thing ever. This pasta is made from chickpeas and the texture is a little different from regular pasta so you may want to have a drink handy. Last time I ate this, I felt like I just needed to drink a bit more than usual. It’s probably not my first choice of pastas, but especially if you need to eat gluten free, it’s worth a try.

Oilogic Essential Oil Care for Babies and Toddlers, Slumber and Sleep Essential Oil Blend (0.07 fl oz) – Value $1.55 (buy a 0.45 fl oz roll-on for $9.99)

This has a couple of different essential oils in it that are supposed to promote sleep, including the ever-popular lavender and chamomile. I don’t have a baby or toddler to try this on but I put a little bit in one of those ultrasonic water diffusers last night before bed and found it rather nicely scented and calming.

Auromere Ayurvedic Toothpaste (0.17 fl oz) – Value $0.24 (buy 2, 4.16 ounce tubes for $11.81)

This is full of plant extracts (many of which I have never heard of before) and essential oils. I am unlikely to purchase this in full size, though, because it is fluoride-free and because it is licorice flavored (which is one flavor I really don’t care for at all). Still, overall, a reasonable inclusion for a fitness-oriented box.

Mo’Betta Belly Digestive Ease Symptom Soother from Wish Garden (0.66 fl oz) – Value $15.96 (buy 1 ounce for $24.18)

This contains fennel seed, catnip aerials, peppermint leaf, and ginger root, many of which I have heard of in conjunction with easing digestive issues. (To be clear: as a scientist, I am not really into essential oils as medicine. But peppermint and ginger, at least, have established histories with respect to stomach upset.) The fennel makes it taste a bit medicinal to me. I haven’t had stomach upset since I received this box but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to hang onto it and try it next time I’m a bit nauseous.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $22 for the July Bulu Box Weight Loss. That is definitely above the cost of the box.  I don’t feel like there was much relating to weight loss in this box – it struck me as more of a general health/fitness supplement box this month. That happens sometimes. I didn’t include the value of the Halo Top coupon; that product costs $5.99 per pint at Target and Whole Foods and it does definitely add to the overall value for me because I *will* use it, for sure (as soon as possible…). Probably my favorite item this month was the macaroni and cheese.

I’d definitely recommend using our MYSUB599 coupon code when signing up, and also sticking to either the regular or the weight loss version of this box rather than getting both, as there is often significant product repeat (less so this month than normally, though). Also, don’t forget to review your products for points to use in the Bulu Box shop!

  1. Watch the expiration date on the Banza macaroni. Mine expires in less than a month.

    • I ate one box without looking (and didn’t get sick). The other one was good until September. But a good warning to those who haven’t tried it yet.

  2. The licorice toothpaste probably promotes weight loss because the taste in your mouth makes you lose your appetite.

    • I really don’t like licorice flavored things. It is in tea all the time now because it is supposed to add some natural sweetness. I’m like, I’d rather just have the bitterness and no licorice flavor. If it’s too bitter, I’m overflowing with honey from The Hive Box.

    • Lol!!!

  3. Thanks for the idea of putting the essential oil sample into a diffuser! I wasn’t sure what I’d do with that little vial and now I’m glad I saved it.

That Halo ice cream… So good. Kind of a sneaky way for a health-and-wellness box to make a loyal subscriber of me, but it totally worked.

  4. I’m guessing the Wish Garden Herb Mo’ Betta Belly (Digestive Ease) is to help with digestive issues such as heartburn/upset stomache/acid reflux which a lot of people endure after every meal. It’s something I’ve begun to experience in my 40’s (age plus stress) that I did not have an issue with before. Personally, I’ve added a high quality probiotic supplement to my life which has helped me immensely. That said, I would totally give this a try. Thanks for the review.

    • I have very recently had some heartburn issues, which I think are probably stress-related. Would you mind if I asked which probiotic you’ve found helpful?

      • When I had heartburn, these things helped:

        (1) sitting up straight (I was slouching after eating, which compressed my stomach)
        (2) for a month or so, downing some liquid antacid about an hour after each meal and right before bed
        (3) eating dinner with a few hours to spare before bed and sitting up straight until bedtime
        (4) elevating the head of my bed and/or sleeping on multiple pillows
        (5) for a time, avoiding acidic foods like OJ, tomatoes, and soda
        (6) avoiding meals heavy with fat or protein as these take a bit longer to digest
        (7) not exercising for at least a few hours after eating

I, personally, didn’t have as much luck with probiotics for upper GI issues.

        • Wow, thank you! This is great information. My doctor gave me a prescription for Prilosec but I’d rather not depend on it. We are buying a house and the stomach issues started exactly when we started that whole process — hopefully they’ll end when we’re moved in.

        • Thank you for the very helpful tips! Definitely will be trying all of these.
