Scentbird is a perfume subscription where you choose one fragrance per month. They offer a variety of authentic designer scents and allow you to narrow down by either traditional categories for notes (e.g., floral, woody, spicy, etc.) or more general descriptive terms (e.g., mysterious, classic, flirty). Subscribers also receive a monthly discount code that can be used on full-size bottles of perfume or cologne from the Scentbird shop.

Scentbird always sends a preview card for next month’s fragrance. For June, it is Simone by Tocca. I like some Tocca fragrances and am less enthusiastic about others but I do like learning about new scents that are being released. (There’s no information card specific to your chosen fragrance since those will differ for everyone.)
Burberry The Beat EDT – Value $11.76 (buy a 1.7-ounce bottle for $74)
This is a little off the beaten path for me. It is a bit more fruity and floral than I am used to (and definitely a lighter scent as a result), but it does have a base note of cedar and it has some musk and cardamom as well, and I like woody, musky, spicy scents the best. (This also has notes of tea, mandarin, bergamot, pink pepper, iris, vetiver, and bellflower.) I actually do think this works with my body chemistry and that it is more of a daytime scent for me, especially in the warm months of the year. This is a bit older, as fragrances go, having been released in 2009, but I don’t actually think I’ve tried any Burberry scents before, so it’s new to me.
Verdict: The retail value of my fragrance this month is somewhat below the cost of the subscription. You can certainly manipulate the value to get more than you paid for (they have a few Cartier fragrances, for example, and Lilac Love, which costs $400 a bottle elsewhere). The fragrance I received is a little different from the sorts of fragrances I usually choose, but I think it is good to branch out every once in awhile – I have found some unexpected favorites in the past by doing just that.
What do you think of the June 2017 Scentbird? What fragrance did you choose?
