POPSUGAR Must Have Box June 2017 Review + Coupon

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

POPSUGAR Must Have is a monthly lifestyle subscription box for women. Each month they send a mix of items from categories like beauty, fashion, food, fitness, and home.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: POPSUGAR Must Have

The Cost: 39.95 a month

COUPON: Use coupon code MUSTHAVE5 to save $5 off your first box.

The Products: “Must Have” items for women selected by POPSUGAR editors. (Fitness, Home, Beauty, Food, and more)

Check out all of my POPSUGAR Must Have reviews and the Women’s Subscription Box Directory!

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included, and what themes inspired the box.

The themes this month are: beach read, swim, waves, breeze, mermaids, and palm trees.

Now, on to the items!

Aloha Collection Mid-Size Ocean Coco Palms Pouch – Value $36

This pouch is made from 100% coated Tyvek, so it is splash proof. (They don’t call it waterproof, since you can’t submerge it in a pool for example, and expect there to be no leaks onto any items inside the bag.)

But it is perfect to use as a swimsuit bag, makeup bag, beach clutch, etc.

The material has a crinkly feel, but it is still pretty soft. And it measures 11.5″ across x 2″ wide x 8.5″ tall so it can store a lot.

Here it is with a few items to give you a better sense of scale:

This bag also came with a coupon for 25% off an Aloha Collection purchase.

Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Hair Spray – Value $24

This spray is made with all organic and natural ingredients: Water, Atlantic Sea Salt, Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Sea Kelp Extract, Organic Rose Geranium Essential Oil & Organic Palmarosa Essential Oil.

AKA – it smells lovely!

You can use it on dry or damp hair, and it is designed to give texture and beach waves to your hair.

My hair is naturally wavy/curly, and adding this spray to it just made it look a little more frazzled. It didn’t make much of a difference to my straight hair, either. But! I found a different way to use it that I really like.

Here is my attempt at a hair tutorial 😉

First, I started with straight hair. (This $20 hairdryer/brush has been a game changer for me. I don’t use a hair straightener anymore!)

Next, I curled my hair with the 1 inch Beachwaver. Since my hair is naturally wavy, it retains the curl really well. A little too well…

So this is when I brought in the Sea Salt spray! I applied it liberally on my hair and brushed it out to get this result:

(If you apply a lot of the spray like I did, you might get some crunchy hair pieces at first, but I was able to brush them out.)

I like the relaxed, more tousled looking curls – and no frizziness! Let me know what you think!

Billabong Aloha Trucker Hat – Value $18

Confession, I literally googled, “Are trucker hats back in style?” when I saw this in the box. And the answer is…. yes. (Exhibit A: WhoWhatWear article.)

When I think “trucker hat,” I think of Ashton Kutcher in a Von Dutch hat, so I’m happy that this hat has a different vibe – much more sporty/baseball.

And I like the bright blue color – this definitely feels like a summer hat.

It’s an adjustable snap back, with a white mesh back panel.

While this hat is pushing me out of my fashion comfort zone, and not something I would have bought myself, I can give POPSUGAR points for mixing it up. I have several floppy straw hats for summer thanks to subscription boxes, but this style of hat is a first!

My husband Eric told me I looked “pretty cool” in the hat, but I’m not sure I’m convinced. Here it is on:

Honest thoughts?

Meri Meri Party Straws – Value $6

Meri Meri has been featured in POPSUGAR before, and they make the cutest party accessories!

Thes pale blue paper straws would be great for entertaining, or just keeping in your car for various summer drinks.

And speaking of drinks…

Starbucks Frappuccino – Value $2.20

(This item is a special extra in the box.)

What a great special extra! My husband is always SO curious to see what the food item is in every POPSUGAR box (he has discovered so many favorite snacks thanks to this box), and this month he gets a drink and a snack!

FYI – subscribers will receive one of several flavors.

And there’s a coupon included with your Frappuccino, too.

Snack time!

Belgian Boys Mini Cookie Stash – Value $1

These cookie butter mini cookies are shaped like mustaches!

This is a fun and easy treat to throw in your beach bag/purse, etc. My official POPSUGAR treat taste tester said these reminded him exactly of animal crackers and the bag was finished quickly!

NCLA So Rich Mermaid Tears – Value $18

Don’t worry! These are “mermaid tears of joy, not sorrow.” 🙂

This vitamin-e infused oil is made with sunflower seed oil and smells like honeysuckle. It’s the best smelling cuticle oil I’ve come across!

And I needed only a few drops to make my cuticles look instantly better, so this little bottle should last all summer!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Retail Value $26 (On Amazon for $17.10)

This is a brand new release book – it was released today, June 13th! I love when POPSUGAR includes books in their boxes. And as someone who spends probably too much of her day in front of a screen, I always appreciate a hardcover book over a Kindle edition. (Of course, I still use my Kindle, too!)

Book Summary from Amazon:

In this entrancing novel “that speaks to the Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor in us all” (Kirkus Reviews), a legendary film actress reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the risks she took, the loves she lost, and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine.

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

This book was available as one of the Book of the Month options this month, and I didn’t pick it. The summary just didn’t call out to me, and I’m not much of a biography reader, so I wasn’t sure it would be for me. But I’m so glad POPSUGAR sent this and forced my hand!

I found the book interesting from the first page, but I really wasn’t drawn in until the chapter that starts on page 43. Once I started reading the fictional biography chapters from Evelyn, I couldn’t put the book down. And then I started to get more invested in the story with Monique.

I’m past page 200 now, and I plan on finishing this book tonight! (If you aren’t sure of this book like I was, I definitely recommend giving it a chance.)

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $131. (About $122 if you use the Amazon sale price of the book.) While this isn’t my favorite POPSUGAR box, I always appreciate a good theme. This box feels like everything you need to throw into your bag to take to the pool or beach: a beach read, summer hat, water/sand proof bag, snack and drink, and two mermaid inspired beauty products. (Oh, and some cute straws!)

I’ll use just about everything. (The trucker hat is a miss for me, though.) And I have to remind myself that sometimes the best part of subscription boxes is that they send things you wouldn’t buy yourself. (I’m so glad I started reading the book!)

  1. I don’t wear baseball hats ever, so I can see how you would be unsure about this one Liz! That being said, I love the pouch and will enjoy the cuticle oil and testing the sea salt spray. I’m happy with the value for the items I love and won’t have a problem gifting the rest to someone who’ll enjoy them.

  2. While your reviews are always honest and thorough, thank goodness they are never as negative as most people’s comments here – I’d never sub to any box. As I often comment… I think we’re getting great value here for what we’ve paid and I appreciate the time someone (or a team of someones) took to curate the box. Looking forward to it.

    • Same. I’m so over the constant negativity from commenters. I’m not sure why they think people want to hear “I hate it” “so glad I’m not getting it” etc etc. Debbie Downers.

      • Liz asks at the end of each review “what do you think of the box?” which invites all kinds of opinions on the subject.

Personally I would have loved the box 20 years ago when I was a teenager but it feels age-inappropriate and dated to me now further confirming that this is not a sub that works for me and my style. Occasionally PSMH boxes are great but things like hats and books are very taste specific and salt spray only works for certain hair textures so it’s not really a box that is well-curated for mass appeal as the many negative responses confirm.

      • Your sick of people complaining about the box but here you are complaining about complaints. People have a right to say what ever they want about sub boxes. If you don’t like negative comments then don’t read them. This site would be boring if we could only say positive things! Give me a break! Stick to commenting on the box and stop shaming people because they have a different opinion than you. Its called freedom of speech! I think this box sucks and I will say that if I want too! I love reading everyones comments whether negative or positive! That’s what this site is for!

        • I agree. There are pros and cons to every sub box. Nothing’s written where you have to like everything. I’ll keep the pouch and the straws but will probably swap the rest. It’s a blah box. How many sea salt sprays can one person own?! I’ll say what I want to say about whatever I want to say within reason.

        • Becca wins the best comment award! So true everything you said!

I think this box is pretty bad. I almost re-subbed when I saw the sea salt spray but glad I didn’t!

        • 100 % Agree. I like to hear everyone opinions as soon as they are honest and not made to boycott others.

    • If people don’t like most of the items in their boxes, they have a right to complain about it, as many of us are putting hard-earned money into these subscriptions. If you’re tired of seeing complaints, then stop looking at the thread. I understand not being happy with every single item in the box, but I can actually understand people being upset with this box. Most of these items aren’t things that a lot of people can use or even give as gifts (books and hats are highly dependent on the preferences of the person receiving). They have a right to speak up and be upset if they are. If you like the box, then great. But stop bashing on people for having a different opinion.

      • I absolutely agree that people should be able to express dislike/disappointment, for any box. But there’s a big difference between saying something like: “the hat is too trendy and I have no use for it” versus “that hat is hideous.” To me, many of the opinions expressed seem to rain on others’ parades–no need to insult the taste of those who happen to like the items. Just my 2 cents…

        • Spot on!

        • Its called freedom of speech! If someone else’s opinion rains on your parade then (1) don’t read the comments. (2) get thicker skin

        • Jessica, well said…. I am guilty of having used the word “hideous” once in describing a bag I didn’t like…. your point hit home…. I can voice my opinion but be kinder, gentler…. I do NOT want to take away anyone else’s joy ….. we are all so very different after all!! Thank you!! 🙂

      • Yes, this is almost 45 dollar box…but it’s just not for me anymore I don’t think. I’ll try the cuticle oil..but don’t bash us long time subscribers for being underwhelmed with this box this month..hey, maybe July will be great but I’m with the commenter that said this screams Ipsy. My opinion and I have a right to it.
I’m liking more home box items…my hair is butt length and I have no need for more salt spray..it doesn’t work with my hair.
        I miss the old Popsugar.
But I must say, ladies, grab Rachel Zoe this month..I got it yesterday and it’s amazing!

      • Amen Nicole!!

      • first I haven’t received my box this month. I haven’t been keeping track.is there way I can check.but when I do I saw what will be in it.i I’m want like anything in it! I am 64 yr old woman all that is for younger people.plus I don’t wear hats if I did I wouldn’t wear this one! when I first started getting popsugar I loved my boxes.but for last few months they have gotten bad.

    • Melissa,

I subscribed last month and then canceled. If there is something I want from Popsugar, I can find it in a lot on eBay.

  3. Love your hair with the sea salt spray- and the hat is cut on you, too…fun for a weekend walk!! I must admit I don’t read the comments too much anymore as really tired of all the negativity.. if you do not like the boxes– easy — unsubscribe! I think this is a great box- prefect for summer!! Not sure what everyone expects with the lower price of this box???

  4. I wonder if I’ll be able to buy the whole box on eBay or if I should just sub 🤔 My daughter would love the hat… She’s 8 sooo 😬

    • Hey Anna, I’d be willing to trade the hat when I get it. It’s not really my style (but I do like the colors!) – I’d be so happy if someone who would actually put it to good use had it. (My account is S16t18)

  5. Hey Liz! Serious question and something I’ve always wondered. So I don’t know if you have a Goodreads or how many books you read in a year, but because of boxes, I’m guessing it’s a lot (my goal is usually 75 or 100). Reading is my obsession, but you always seem to finish so quickly! Like you just started this and are almost done. But you run a business all day… how in the world do you have time?! I am impressed but also want to know your secret. Do you speed read or skim? Maybe it’s because I always read like 5 or 6 books at a time so it takes me longer. I do the PopSugar Reading Challenge every year – which usually includes 40 books – and so that’ll be the first time I’ve cracked open a BOTM choice this year. I usually have so many others to read first, but I notice you don’t review until you’ve read the book. What’s your secret?! (Obviously consuming as many books as possible is a clear goal of mine).

    • First, I love your goal of consuming as many books as possible! That’s my dream, too! (I have bookshelves full of books I bought from Amazon or Book Outlet that I’m still waiting to crack open!)

I’ve been trying to read at least a good part of every book before I write a review, so I think that actually helps me to get more reading done! I also have made a rule for myself: if I’m not obsessed with a book at page 100 I stop. This has resulted in me not finishing some highly-rated books, but I figure I can always come back to them in the future when I have a bit more time.

      Hope that helps! 🙂

      • I have wondered this too. Thank you for taking the time to answer! I like your rule of not interested/obsessed by page 100 and will probably use it for my own reading from now on.

    • Sorry to impose on your conversation. I am on Goodread challenge too, but I usually put 30 books a year. What really speed up my reading, listen books on tape while I am driving to/from work. I take them in public library.

      • Yeah for audio books!!! And this one will be at Audible. I love Audible because I can follow along in the paper book and also listen to it when I walk or do chores. So I am very happy to get a book that will be on Audible! It is the best of 2 worlds when I read a book and can also use Audible.

        • I do the same thing!! Listen book in car and continue to read hard copy before going to bed 🙂

      • If you love audio books from the library, check and see if your library is Hoopla compatible. (Hoopladigital.com) I just had to link my library card and they have a whole selection of books ready for streaming that you can check out (and you can download them for offline listening as well!)

        • Also check out Overdrive for eaudiobooks through your public library. You can download books to your smart phone in seconds. ❤️

      • I love reading, but can’t get into audio books at all, I guess b/c they negate the very peace I’m seeking when I read. And I’ve always wondered how do people manage to focus on driving while listening to a book. The only thing I can listen to while driving is music, and even then, if I’m in an unfamiliar area or have to make a tough maneuver like a tight parallel park, I turn the music off. 😀 Isn’t it distracting to follow a plot and drive or am I just wired differently?

  6. First thought: ugh they did include a trucker hat!
Second thought: well at least I like this style better than the spoiler picture. I may wear this one to the farmers market on the weekend when I wear my black sweat capris and blue north face shirt which is about the same shade of blue. Not something I would have bought on my own though.

I do think Popsugar sends a lot of blue items but thankfully it’s what I wear/choose the most.

  7. Oh God I just thought of something. These horribly awful items are going to show up in every mystery box and warehouse sale from now till the end of POPSUGAR.

    • 😭😭😭
      Buyers beware. Hahaha

    • Hahahaha 😂😂😂. Sorry I thought it was real funny picturing that there were still going to be sunnylife swan floaties ’till the end of days’…. POPSUGAR, I mean 😝

      • I just ordered three more swan floaties at the 75% off discount – in addition to the three I ordered on the last 75% off sale – we love them in the pool to hold our drinks or snack plates that we can’t set on the side of the pool because of the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs love them too and keep popping them, trying to bite the swan’s head off.

        • 😂 My dog Mojo would try to do the same thing….I’m taking that swan off my followed list right now!! 🤣

  8. Liz, I love your hair tutorial! It looks great! Thanks for adding that!!!

  9. I hate this box upon looking at it; but I’ll probably keep the cuticle oil, book and snacks and that makes it worth what I paid for the box. But man their summer boxes are terrible anymore. I hate the trucker hat, I hate getting hats in boxes, how many women actually wear hats??? I never wear a hat; but don’t see tons of women walking around my city with hats on either. Except *maybe* at a sporting event. The pouch is ok; and I would keep it if I didn’t already have 50 I never use.

  10. I tend not to be a huge fan of summer boxes in general, but I like this better than Popsugar’s summer offerings last year. The book, pouch, and cuticle oil look great.

Also–love how you styled your hair with the sea salt spray, Liz! 🙂

  11. Oh god! This is the worst box ever!!!!!!!! The hat is horrible!! The one pictured yesterday in the spoiler was wayyyy better looking than the junky blue one. And straws? Really! There isn’t even a hero item! I hate everything! Pop sugar has gone down hill since black Friday when they lowered the price and got too many subscribers! The value is no way near what it used to be! I will be in subscribing now!

  12. This is their best box in awhile! Great summer items!

  13. Hey Liz,
I think the issue with the hat is how you have it styled. Maybe try it with a ponytail and athleisure outfit? Or a curly/beach waves ponytail and denim shorts and a cute tank?

Trucker hats are not my first choice of fashion item for a sub box, but I agree that I like the creativity and them doing something besides a straw hat! I do tend to wear baseball hats in the summer more than straw hats, but always with a ponytail. I feel too much like I’m channeling Kurt Cobain long male grunge hair if I leave my hair down under a baseball hat!

They’re great for when you’re in the water (ocean, pool, lake, etc), running, hiking, anything sporty and outdoorsy where a straw hat could be damaged or would be out of place (like at a sporting event or while hiking!). And you can just throw it in the washer (either clothes washer or dishwasher, top rack) if it gets dirty. Just lay it out to dry (don’t put it in the dryer).

Hang on to it and try it out this summer as some more casual events! Again, it’s not my first choice of accessory and I own zero trucker hats but have a few baseball caps that I’ve relied on for years for when in the water or doing outdoorsy sweaty sunny dirty things.

  14. ewwwww, worst month since I started subscribing in November

    • Agreed!!!

  15. I prefer the pastel colored hat over this one. But, I can make either work.
Liz, you’re hair looks great! Love the tutorial!

    • Thanks so much, Melody! 🙂

  16. That hat. I could cry. 😭

  17. “Ashton Kutcher in a Von Dutch hat” bahahahaha! 🙂

  18. Your hair is so cute! I am going to try that style and use up some of the gallons of sea salt spray that I have. I, like other readers, also don’t understand why sub box curators think that our lives significantly change during the summer. I expect it’s still 9 to 5 for a lot of us. I mean, I live in Florida but I’ll probably spend 2 or 3 days at the beach if I’m lucky, and I can’t really spend the rest of the days pretending I am there…

  19. Glad I held out til your review. I loved my May box and I loved the June theme, but reviews from past summer boxes had me hesitate on renewing. I’ll think I’ll subscribe again come autumn.

  20. Liz.. what lipstick are you wearing here? I love it

      • That liquid lipstick is definitely one of my favs !!!

        • One of my all time favorite Birchbox discoveries 🙂

          • Me too! I have gotten literally over a hundred lip products in the 3 years I’ve been a sub addict (I’ve kept track), and Stila’s Patina is one of my top 2 faves (the other being Nars Velvet Glide in Bound). The Stila applies perfectly, is long-wearing, fades gracefully and flatters every skin tone. Love it! /end of unsponsored plug of Stila 🙂

  21. So they are actually called “trucker hats” …. I thought that was just kind of a dig … oops. Still don’t like it and don’t really care if they are back in style since I never knew they were….LOL.

And, I still don’t understand the mustache thing. I think I’m just getting too old….get off my lawn you kids!

    • Oops me 2. I laughed when I read that. Didn’t realise ‘trucker hat’ was a thing

  22. I feel like I type this everywhere when sea salt sprays are mentioned. Everyone still hates on them and uses them incorrectly. It won’t help if you have curly hair but for everyone else don’t wash, just condition, then use. It gives your hair amazing texture without feeling overly dry or full of weird filmy feeling. Just please god google how to use sea salt spray people. Please. Pleaseeeee so I only have to read half as often how sick the world is of them. Second day hair. Conditioner only. Spray. Texture. Natural dry. 😭😭😭

    • Thanks Cat, good to know

    • Yes yes yes, totally agree. Most of the time people hate sea salt sprays because they’re using them incorrectly. I either do it the way you listed above for I will spray it on my dry hair brush it out and then use my flat iron to curl it it lasts all day and I don’t have to use hairspray love it

    • actually some formulas are great for curly hair. The ones that have magnesium sulfate and/or aloe gel in them actually encourage curl formation and add a little structure and texture. I use them daily to amp up my hair from wavy to curly.

      • Oooh I have to let my curly haired bff know this! Any suggestions?

    • Hi Cat! I tried your technique yesterday, and it worked SO well! My hair is so wavy and perfect today, thank you so much for the advice! I’ve had a couple sprays that I hadn’t used because of the poor reviews, but I’m glad I saw this! Thanks again 🙂

    • THIS is why I LOVE reading comments here! I can’t wait to use the sea salt spray the CORRECT way. I just love and appreciate hearing how people use their items to get the most out of everything we get in these boxes. Chelsea earlier described all these different uses for the hat that I’ll definitely implement (when hiking or going on walks, duh, did not think of that). I know my boyfriend will think it’s so cute on me, too. Haha!

I remember that orange “purse” we got a few months ago, which I did NOT like. But someone mentioned in a comment how it was perfect for when she went camping. I had camping plans that next weekend, used it, and LOVED it. It has a long strap, it’s easy to clean, it’s bright and won’t get lost in the dark. Perfect for camping! You could probably put a flashlight in there and create some mood lighting. LOL! Maybe that’s a stretch…

I’m still waiting to use the watermelon container we got. It’s not like your average tupperware container, it’s heavier and cannot be microwaved. Has anybody used it for a picnic yet? Did it work well??

It’s totally fine to voice your opinions whether positive or negative, but I don’t really get much out of that as a reader. THIS, I get so much out of! Thank you so much! 🙂

  23. I think the hat works on you!

I can’t fathom the fancy-paper-straws-in-subscription-boxes thing, though; that’s the sort of thing that would disappoint me if I received it.

  24. Overall, I am happy with the items in the June 2017 box. I never owned a Trucker hat. I had been noticing a lot of cool moms wearing them around town, so I am excited for this. I love the smell of the sea salt spray. I have bought it twice in the past after receiving in other sub boxes. I love water resistant bags. I have a toddler that goes to swim four times a week and this will come in handy to put his wet clothes in. Currently I have braces and I have been buying paper straws in bulk to drink coffee with. Super excited for those!

    • The joys of adult braces! I am a coffee and tea drinker year round, and I found these hard plastic straws that are promoted for people with braces. I liked them so much that I’ve been using them long after my braces came off. They’re called hotstraw, and although the actual company website (hotstraw.com) and Facebook pages aren’t working anymore, you can order them from some beverage supply companies; I got mine through ebay. They fit through the lids of Starbucks etc. cups and through Tervis tumbler lids. Two sizes and pretty colors, too!

    • I had adult braces too. agh. The good news is that 6 years later, I barely remember that time. I never ended up with the perfect smile, but soooo much better and so worth it. <3

  25. I really love PopSugar, but they kind of lose it on their summer boxes. I’m old enough to remember when I hated trucker hats on their first go-round. They haven’t improved. They’re just not cute, IMO. I’ll use the pouch, might read the book, excited to try the cuticle oil and I’ll enjoy the cookies and coffee, provided the frap arrives intact. Am I the only one who thinks sending glass bottled drinks is a recipe for disaster?

    • The packaging for the box included some additional cardboard structure this month. So, the bottle was very secure. Hopefully, it arrives at your door in one piece!

      • Thanks, Liz. That’s good to know! I’ve had some bad luck with glass items from PS before so I’m always a little wary.

  26. The hat is my favorite item in this box!

    • Mine too! Guess we’re in the minority.

  27. I’m loving everything in this box! I think they really captured summer @ the beach for me. Plus, I personally like to wear these types of hats when I’m out in the ocean. My favorite box so far.

  28. Liz,
That hat looks ADORABLE on you! 😍 While I don’t personally own any trucker hats and I too think of Von Dutch immediately, they are back in style in a big way!

I’m looking forward to wearing this with some jean shorts or even my stretch capris and a oversized shirt…lazy day wardrobe! I’ll probably wear it out at the pool too! 👍🏼

    • Thanks so much, Renee! I like your lazy day wardrobe 🙂

  29. The hat is a big miss for me but the rest of the box is pretty great so I will be happy. The hat will go to my teenage niece. I’m anxious to read the book!

  30. My box won’t arrive until the 21st, but I’m excited to try your hair instructional. If I let my wavy hair dry naturally, it always turns into frizz. I’ve been trying to find a way to cut back on using the flat iron. Now I have hope! Thank you for sharing.

    • Have you tried a little bit of hair oil? I put it on when my hair is partially damp if I think of it, and it seems to help.

  31. So glad I skip this box! A hat, some straws, a book, a sea spray and a cuticle oil bottle for $40? No thank you. I rather go with Sugar Bash and save my $40 every other month

  32. So glad I didn’t bite! That box just isn’t for me! 👎🏻

  33. This box is cute. I didn’t get it but wouldn’t mind it if I did.

  34. I like a lot of the things in this box, and I am looking forward to getting it. However, I do need to say: I understand that blue is Popsugar’s favorite color, but c’mon. So many items we get throughout the year have different color variations and we ALWAYS get the blue version. Its exhausting. We could have gotten a different color pouch, hat, or straws, but instead all three are blue. Please Popsugar, have mercy. Give us a break from blue!

  35. It’s not love, but it’s not horrible. I’ll likely purchase it if it ends up discounted somewhere.

That hat truly is awful though…

  36. I finally cancelled all of my PS subs, but I actually like this box. Thankfully, I have no FOMO.

  37. I’m interested in the book, and I want to try the sea salt spray. I have to see the Aloha pouch before I decide if I want to keep it or not. The rest – meh!

  38. I love your hair and don’t like the hat. The snack cookies are cute. Looking forward to the book and pouch. The other items are misses but that’s what the swap site and donating to others in need are for.

    • Would love to swap for the cuticle oil!

  39. Sooo glad I cancelled. That hat is tragic!

  40. I didn’t get this box, but I really like the hat! Honest thought: I always feel like I look better in a ball cap with my hair in a pony tail or tucked behind my ears (2 braids?). I also think hats kind of take away from mermaid hair 😘 Either way, it’s a cool hat and you should totally rock it!! Have a great summer!

    • I agree – I love the hair look, and Liz, you can pull off the hat! I just don’t think I would put the two looks together, and the hat is definitely not my personal style (I can pull off hats, but I’ve never been a snapback or mesh kind of girl). I would probably pair this one with sweatpants and a tank top – it looks like it’d go best when you’re otherwise super bumming it.

I don’t actively hate everything. It’s well-curated, but the only thing that’s speaking to me is that dang Starbucks, and only because I’m in that afternoon slump. I think it’s more that it’s all a waste of space in my house, and that nothing is really even good enough to be worth the swapping effort….

  41. I think the hat is really cute on you!

    • I just can’t wear hats so I may swap or sell this. I’ve never swapped here so maybe this will inspire me to figure it out!

  42. Thank you for the thorough review of the salt spray. The hat isn’t for me (I love baseball hats for outdoor activity in the summer but I have two that I won’t part with) but it doesn’t look too feminine so I think my teen son might like it. Honest opinion, Liz, is that the hat actually looks cute on you. I can totally see you cheering on the sidelines wearing that hat.

Overall this isn’t my favorite box but, as usual, I still like and will use everything. My favorite item is the pouch. I love tyvek pouches/bags and this will be my first.

    • Thanks, Zo!

And that pouch is impressive! It’s my first Tyvek item, and it seems pretty indestructible! 🙂

  43. I actually like everything! even the hat tho I would have preferred the lighter cap in the instagram picture that said WAVES on it… vs the blue aloha 🙂

  44. To me this doesn’t look at cohesive as the other boxes have been. All together it doesn’t look right to me. A trucker hat? Really 😭? Sun glasses, sun screen, something else was needed. It’s definitely a bummer for me.

    • sunglasses and sunscreen that has been included in every other summer box…..so everyone would have complained about that too. at least the hat is different, and if you aren’t going to use it, i’m sure you know someone who will. this is a perfectly cohesive summer box, and i’m going to enjoy the crap out of it.

  45. I’m really glad that I didn’t resub. This box is the worst I’ve seen.

  46. Wow this box gets worse every month

  47. I am SO excited for this box! It’s a perfect surprise package for a day at the beach or pool and it’s a fantastic value for what I paid. Wish I could get another one for my SIL’s bday. (those hats aren’t my style, but I definitely have seen them around lately so I agree that they are back in style and I like this chance to try it out without having to buy one and feel like a weirdo who is trying to hard. Now I can be a weirdo who is trying too hard but blame it on PopSugar 🙂 Yay!

    • *too hard. Whoa. What a horrible typo. Sorry.

      • ???????? I don’t understand. Too is the correct spelling.

  48. Oh wow! No!

  49. I like the Aloha bag and the NCLA nail product. The rest of the box….meh. Hopefully I’ll be able to swap for those two items.

    • So glad I cancelled!!

I liked the bag, but after seeing the Sea Salt spray, I had a feeling I would not like the June box. The book and hat confirmed it, now seeing the rest, no regrets!

    • Ditto. I think I’m going to cancel for the rest of the summer, and check back in fall.
