Pillsbury Purely Simple - White Cake & Cupcake Mix - Value $2.49
Due to some dietary restrictions lately, I wasn't able to try this so I gave it to my sister to make and try out. She really loved that there were no colors, preservatives or artificial flavors (which she tries to avoid for her littles), and said that the flavor was great. She couldn't tell the difference between this and a regular cake mix! I think she might be a convert to the Purely Simple line.
Pillsbury Purely Simple - Buttercream Frosting Mix - Listed Value $1.99
This buttercream frosting mix is also free of colors, preservatives, and artificial flavors. This actually only has three ingredients: sugar, cornstarch, and buttermilk! The process to make this is much the same as similar products - take softened butter and the mix, combine on low speed and then add water to the mixture to reach your desired consistency. My sister really enjoyed this frosting to top the cake, and said that she probably would add a bit of vanilla extract next time!
Good Thins - The Oat One - Sweet Oat and Flax - Listed Value $3.69
These crackers are free of artificial colors and flavors, hfcs, partially hydrogenated oils, and no cholesterol. This box seems to be full of healthy items this month, which is a nice change from the usual December lineup at holiday parties. I wasn't actually a huge fan of these though - the flavor was good, but I didn't really like the texture much. I have been eating them though, so maybe I don't dislike them as much as I thought!
Ricola Herbal Immunity Lozenges - Value $9.99
These lozenges contain ginseng, along with vitamins C, B6 and B12. The flavor I received is honey herb and they are crafted to support the immune system and help fight fatigue. I don't know that they did all of that for me, but they certainly tasted decent (high compliment for a medicinal drop) and I would purchase them again if the price wasn't so high.
Smucker's Fruit and Honey - Strawberry Jalepeno Fruit Spread - Value $4.25
I am a huge fan of sweet-hot things, so this was a major source of excitement when I opened my box! I paired this with some brie cheese for a holiday appetizer and it was a huge hit. The heat is mild, but it goes so well with the strawberry. This is sweetened with honey too, which is awesome!
Honey Acres Honey Straws - Value $1.00
These honey straws come individually wrapped, which is awesome. Many times, honey straws are just left out in the elements, and you're left wondering what icky germs attach themselves to the straw, so you have to wash them first (is that just me?). These are wrapped to protect them from all ick, which I love! I received 5 different flavors: clover, lemon, orange, raspberry, and mint chocolate. I tried the orange flavor and loved it!
Wise White Cheddar Popcorn - Value $3.49
White Cheddar Popcorn is my husband's favorite thing on this earth, I'm certain of it. So I passed this off to him and he polished off the bag. He gave it a big thumbs up!
Chips Ahoy Thins - Cinnamon Sugar Flavor - Value $2.64
Ohhhhh these are delicious! I love snickerdoodles and these have the same flavor profile, but with white chocolate chips! Who thought of this? They're a genius.
Kala Beautiful Beans - Simply Peppered - Listed Value $3.99
I had no idea that fava beans were having a moment. I've always loved them in Ful, but I've never seen them around in any other aspect. So I'm pretty excited about all these dried fava beans I've been receiving! These tasted great and I enjoyed them. I'm still trying to get used to the whole dried bean thing though - I bite into them expecting a nut, but they're a little hollow! It's weird at first.
Urbane Grain 3-minute Meal - Beef Burgundy - Listed Value $2.99
Since I don't eat meat (I couldn't find any in the ingredients list per se, but I didn't want to chance it, as beef generally makes me sick), I passed this to a friend to try for me. She said it was really great, and so much better than any other quick, microwavable meal she's tried. She said it was a super comforting and delicious meal on a recent rainy day! (We don't have many of those here...)
Loaker Noir Orange Biscuits - Listed Value $3.05
These dark chocolate covered biscuits have orange cream and crisp rice on top.
Loaker Coconut Biscuits - Listed Value $3.05
These milk chocolate covered biscuits are filled with coconut cream and topped with toasted coconut!
Just look at those beauties. They are gorgeous (would look perfect on a holiday cookie platter) and delicious. My favorite were the orange cream biscuits, but that's likely because I have a distaste for coconut. The coconut flavor was very strong - when I opened the box it hit me in the face...not literally, but you know what I mean.
Verdict: I think this box was a perfect mix of products for December. Several of the items could be used for entertaining (the cookies, popcorn, jam, Good Thins, and Pillsbury products), while others would be a perfect snack while on the go! The box has a value of about $42.62. I think that is an excellent value for this box (especially for the price) and I loved being introduced to a few new products.
